On the October 3 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews, MSNBC political analyst Pat Buchanan characterized communications former Rep. Mark Foley (R-FL) allegedly sent to underage former congressional pages as "valentines over the email." Later, on the same day's edition of Scarborough Country on MSNBC, Buchanan characterized Foley as "a sexual predator ... who's posturing as a conservative."

On Scarborough Country, Buchanan described Foley as "a sexual predator from Florida who's posturing as a conservative" but did not explain his suggestion that a sexual predator can only "posture" as a conservative and not actually be one. In 2005, the American Conservative Union (ACU) awarded Foley a rating of 63 out of 100 and a lifetime rating of 78 out of 100. In 2003, the Family Research Council (FRC) gave Foley a score of 85 out of 100.

From the 5 p.m. October 3 edition of MSNBC's Hardball with Chris Matthews:

SHRUM: The question is conduct. The question is not sexual orientation.

BUCHANAN: Why do you think they keep them out of Boy Scouts?

[crosstalk]

SHRUM: Pat, why do you think it was? Why do you think it was that Phil Crane, that conservative paragon --

MATTHEWS: [Former Rep.] Dan Crane [R-IL]. Dan Crane.

SHRUM: -- hit on a young woman page in the Congress?

BUCHANAN: Dan Crane. I recommended he be thrown out of Congress.

MATTHEWS: That was Dan Crane, by the way.

BUCHANAN: Yeah, that was Dan Crane. I recommended he be expelled, and so should [former Rep. Gerry] Studds [D-MA], and you guys elected Studds five more times and made him a chairman of a committee.

[crosstalk]

SHRUM: Wait a minute -- you guys. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute. Wait a minute.

BUCHANAN: He's a hero. He didn't [inaudible] conduct. He didn't send valentines over the email. [laughs]

SHRUM: You've got your facts wrong, Pat. The ethics committee recommended that both of them be reprimanded. The House said, absolutely not, we're going to increase the penalty to censure. And I think what we're seeing today is that those who screamed and yelled about that have become complete hypocrites. The notion that [House Speaker] Denny Hastert got this news and did nothing more than what Catholic bishops did, which is sit down and tell the guy to sin no more, is incredible.

From the October 3 edition of MSNBC's Scarborough Country:

SCARBOROUGH: You know, Pat Buchanan, I always use my wife as a barometer because she's not a political nut like me. And when my wife comes to me and says, "How could Denny Hastert and the Republican leadership kept this to themselves for six, seven, eight months?" I know the GOP's in big trouble.

BUCHANAN: Oh, it's in terrible trouble. I can't think of a worse, worse type scandal, Joe. You got a sexual predator from Florida who's posturing as a conservative. You got Hastert and all these fellows going back and forth not remembering, others saying, I told him, and it looks like a cover-up is going on.

Mark Foley isn't the only one. I'm sure Patrick knows that. By the way, isn't his sister a lesbian? She could be attacked by religious conservatives as well. It's amazing how many so-called conservatives turn out to be gay themselves or have gay family members. Ken Mehlman, David Dreier, Mark Foley, Newt Gingrich's half-sister, Phyllis Schlafly's son, the son of Randall Terry, the freak who injected himself into the Terri Schiavo sideshow.

State senator from my neck of the woods (CA) who sponsored Prop. 22, a bill outlawing same-sex marriage even though it was already illegal in California. His son is gay.

An estimated 10% of Americans are Gay. That is not the problem. Foley didn't resign because he is Gay; but because he is being investigated for being a Pedophile.

The daughter of Alan Keyes. He kicked her out of his house right before she was supposed to leave for college and refused to pay for her college and essentially made her homeless. Sad really. There are plenty of others as well.

No Pat, it's conservative in Foley that makes him the sexual predator. Another self loathing homosexual who tries to pick up little boys and he happens to be a Republican. I'm shocked. Anyone ever notice how cons scream about immorality and practice the same immorality in their private lives? They blame others for the same poor behavior they practice. It just goes to show you once again, Republicans can not be trusted with power. They'r ego maniacal. They'll eat their young to save their sorry hides. Just like Pat (isn't that a girl's name?) trying to dig up skeletons from other peoples closets to muddy the issue. This actually surprises me because he has been very critical of the current state of the Republican party.

Reps are suggesting Dems are behind the Foley deal. Wrong. This has Rove written all over it. He's sacrificng one or two of his own to stir up an environment focused on the gay issue. Dems won't be able to restrain themselves from acting holier than thou, which Rove will use to out a few Dems and unleash other "values" evidence he's been gathering over the last two years. - Sambo Hux

Somebody should out him and even George Bush. Give them a taste of their own medicine. No pun intended with the taste remark. There have rumors about Karl Rove being gay inside the beltway for quite some time now. No pun intended when I say inside the beltway. There have been reports of him hitting up gay bars and having some trysts with gay males. There are even rumors about George Bush. Do a google search on Victor Ashe. He's the former mayor of Knoxville, Tennesee who is now ambassador to Poland. Maybe thats why Bush was so upset with Kerry in the 2004 debates when Kerry forgot to mention Poland as a coalition partner for Iraq and George Bush said the infamous "YOU FORGOT POLAND.

I must confess that I never heard of a valentine that referred to the size of a sexual member. Maybe conservatives really are physically different from us.
