Olbermann awarded Beck "Worst Person" for saying he "feel[s]" like asking first Muslim congressman to "prove to me that you are not working with our enemies"

On the November 15 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named Glenn Beck winner of his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for, as Media Matters for America documented, declaring to Rep.-elect Keith Ellison (D-MN), the first Muslim elected to Congress: "[Y]ou are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies."

Olbermann previously bestowed the "Worst Person" award upon Beck for calling anti-war protester Cindy Sheehan "a pretty big prostitute," as Media Matters noted. Beck also received "the bronze" in Olbermann's "Worst Person" segment for asserting, in response to a New York Times report on a Treasury Department program designed to track terrorists' international financial transactions: "Can you imagine The New York Times coming out and saying, 'Hey, the ovens aren't so bad,' back in World War II. Can you imagine that?" Beck continued: "I don't know. Sure, there are some Jews in there, but I bet they might make some good pizzas in there, too. The New York Times is just -- I don't get it. I don't understand it."

From the November 15 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: But our winner, conservative commentator Glenn Beck. Interviewing Congressman-elect Keith Ellison of Minnesota, who will become the first man of the Muslim faith to serve in the House, Beck actually said this to Ellison: quote, "No offense, and I know Muslims. I like Muslims. With that being said, you are a Democrat. You are saying, 'Let's cut and run.' And I have to tell you, what I feel like saying is, 'Sir, prove to me that you are not working with our enemies.' " Hey, Glenn, you divisive fearmonger. How 'bout you prove to us that you're not working with our enemies? Glenn Beck, today's "Worst Person in the World."

Helps to know that there are some out there who have the stones to publicly denounce Beck for the moron that he is.

Maybe Beck could do some investigative reporting. He is (ostensibly) a "journalist," after all. If Beck thinks there is some dirt on Ellison, why not prove that the dirt actually exists? Sheesh, Beck is missing a chance to be a real hero here.

All this proves to me is that Glenn Beck is intellectually lazy. Of course conservatives don't care about that; it serves their purposes to keep people stupid.

What do you even mean by "Do your own research"? Are you saying that Olbermann can't comment on Beck unless he personally sat down and watched Beck's program as it was being broadcast? There's absolutely nothing wrong with using MMFA as a source, particularly since they provide audio and video of the original broadcast.

You keep spewing the same things over and over again. I in the past was not fond of Olbermann, but he has grown on me. Especially with his insighful "Special Comments".

I believe he does do his own research, you should try and come up with more than a few lines of your hateful rhetoric.

Oh, the irony of someone who laps at the teet of the Right Wing Echo Chamber complaining about someone allegedly "regurgitating"someone else's "research."

(I can't say for a fact, but I'd bet folding money that that Olbermann has cable. And a TiVo!)

because he tried to distance himself from his own prejudiced viewpoint. What a slimeball he is.

I commend Ellison for remaining civil, because I don't think I would have been if I were in his position.

Anyone with a brain can and should see right through him. Unfortunately but not surprisingly he has had a radio show for several years and has a television show that usually draws an audience in the hundreds of thousands. He was on Nancy Grace last night and some woman who sounded like she was calling from a trailer park asked him if he was going to run for President. As long as we have people like that, we are, in some sense, doomed.

I wonder if Mr. Beck would question the allegiance and loyalty of Jonathan Pollard, Joseph Lieberman or any other Jewish Congressman or Senator. Even if their policies take America to the path of destruction and world scorn.

I agree with Olbermann. This is as bad as it can get.

The Muslim congressman is being targetet because of his religion and nothing else. He did not say or do anything that would require him to state where he stands.

And what kind of people do we think we are when people must defend themselves or be concidered guilty by defaul?

What ever happend to innocent until proven guilty?

Sadly the muslims are now the new jews.

Why does everything remind me of 1930?

I generally don't mind criticism for a tv show host, but what gets me is when people criticize someone without actually listening to his radio show or his tv show, and taking it for what it is.

As I understand what he believes in, I can see the 100% justification of this. If you see the actual video clip of the entire interview, the person being interviewed understood Beck's criticism, but certainly wasn't offended by it. It was a tough question, which I believe no one had the balls to ask him that, and I commend Beck for his continued honesty.

Although there may be a lot of things to criticize beck, this is hardly one of them.

But you're okay with asking a Congressman-elect to testify that he's not working for terrorists when there's absolutely no evidence that he is?

Maybe we need a few more worst persons in the world. I am so tired of political correct responses when the world is looking the other way at radical Muslims. Maybe if a few more true American's spoke the truth instead of what is basically softsoap propaganda, we here in America would be a little better informed. What should be said is, if you are not a radical Muslim and do not support their ideals, STAND UP AND DENOUNCE their agenda to destroy America and Israel. You are way off base Oberlmann, and need to look to the real story instead of the crap you are being fed by the main stream media.

There have been plenty; you must be new here.

I am so tired of political [sic] correct responses when the world is looking the other way at radical Muslims.

Ah yes, the old "politically correct" canard. Been there, done that, you're not going to impress anyone with it.

Maybe if a few more true American's [sic] spoke the truth instead of what is basically softsoap propaganda, we here in America would be a little better informed.

Oh, the irony. You want "true Americans" (whatever that means) to become more informed... by listening to people like Beck?

What should be said is, if you are not a radical Muslim and do not support their ideals, STAND UP AND DENOUNCE their agenda to destroy America and Israel.

No, he doesn't. I don't need to stand up and denounce every fringe element of Christianity. Beck doesn't need to stand up and denounce every fringe element of Mormonism. We are accountable for what we believe, not what some nutcase believes.

You are way off base Oberlmann [sic], and need to look to the real story instead of the crap you are being fed by the main stream [sic] media.

Spare us your projections. While it's true that the mainstream (one word) media feeds us crap, it's obvious that you're the one who's fallen for it, and not Obermann. The reason Obermann gets featured positively here at MMFA is because he's so different from most of the mainstream media.

Well, that's a bunch of faulty reasoning, and poorly presented. You're going to have to do a lot better than that to get any respect around here.

Are you under the impression that I need or require your respect? You obviously only read what is printed here on this forum and are unable to reason on your own. Why don't you try to listen to someone else's opinion other that the great Obermann and make a decision based on fact? Sorry if you are offended by my "faulty reasoning, and poorly presented" comments. I guess on this forum you must agree with everything the great Obermann states to be accepted.

"...I don't need to stand up and denounce every fringe element of Christianity. Beck doesn't need to stand up and denounce every fringe element of Mormonism."

This is 100% true. However, the fringe elements of Christianity et al are not trying to eliminate Israel from the map or trying to develop nukes to detroy America. This are publicly stated goals of Islamic leaders... not just white guy paranoia.

You just don't understand that this "give peace a chance" mentality will turn the US into the soft whiny hole that France has become. If you want suicide bombers in our malls and train stations, keep hugging everyone. If you want to live a little longer, have some coffee and wake the frick up!

      quoting Dave_Chicago:

Who says he didn't? >>"hey olbermann, do your own research."<< You are without any knowledge as to how much or what research Keith Olbermann did.

I'd say not a whole heckuva lot based on the following info points on Ellison:

      1. Ellison was endorsed and partly financed by the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), a massive U.S.-based organization that avidly defends Osama bin Laden and other militant Islamic terrorists and considers U.S. action against terrorists anti-Islamic.
      2. In fact, the group demanded the removal of a Los Angeles billboard describing bin Laden as “the sworn enemy” because it was “offensive to Muslims.
      3. Ellison, who converted to Islam as a 19-year-old college student, also has strong ties to the Nation of Islam, the black cult led by renowned anti-Christian and anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan.

I can find more if you like. These are facts.. not opinions. THIS is what the people of Minnesota voted for. I'd love to hear from someone that voted for him and see if they knew this about Ellison before voting.
