Olbermann named Beck "Worst Person" for comparing Gore to Hitler
On the May 1 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck the winner of his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for, as Media Matters for America documented, comparing former Vice President Al Gore to Adolf Hitler during the April 30 edition of his nationally syndicated radio show. Olbermann quoted Beck:
BECK: Al Gore is not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That's the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all the Jews and have one global government. You have to have an enemy to fight, and when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you and you seize power. That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N. enemy: global warming.
As Media Matters has documented (here, here and here), Beck frequently appears in Olbermann's "Worst Person" segment and was recently named "Worst Person" for calling Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) "the stereotypical bitch."
From the May 1 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: Now who could top that ["Worst Person" runner-up and CNN host Lou Dobbs, who referenced Nazi official Hermann Goering]? CNN's Glenn Beck, our winner. He'll see your Goering reference, Lou, and raise you one Hitler reference. Quoting from his radio show: "Al Gore is not going to be rounding up Jews and exterminating them. It is the same tactic, however. The goal is different. The goal is globalization. The goal is global carbon tax. The goal is the United Nations running the world. That's the goal. Back in the 1930s, the goal was get rid of all the Jews and have one global government. You have to have an enemy to fight, and when you have an enemy to fight, then you can unite the entire world behind you, and you seize power. That was Hitler's plan. His enemy: the Jew. Al Gore's enemy, the U.N. enemy: global warming."
So Al Gore is the Hitler of global warming, trying for world domination by lowering carbon in car exhaust? I think Glenny has been inhaling those car exhausts again. Glenn Beck, today's Worst Person in the World.

Olberman Nazi-salute reference in 4... 3... 2...
1. Blastoff.
What an incredible hypocrite.
Do you folks even remember why Olbermann put on the mask and did the Nazi salute? It was because O'Reilly falsely claimed that war crimes perpetuated by Nazis were done by Americans at Malmedy.
Link to Malmedy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Malmedy_massacre
O'Reilly claimed that the American soldiers who were executed instead executed Germans and performed war crimes! The Germans executed 86 Americans and O'Reilly gets it backwards and says it was Americans who did it. Wesley Clark attempted to correct him on his show and O'Reilly shouted him down. An emailer later wrote telling O'Reilly he had his facts mixed up and he STUCK WITH HIS ORIGINAL STORY! That is why KO did the salute. Was it disrespectful? Probably, but what BOR did was 10 times more disgusting:

friedbergboy1422, you can put up 2,000 links and explain each one with pictures, it won't help.It has been done endlessly here.
The zombies have been told by their trainers that Olbermann is a nazi, and that settles it.
I stand by my hypocrite charge. Olbermann scolds everyone to not use Nazi references, then goes on and uses a Nazi reference.
Enough with the Nazi references! (by Keith Olbermann)
LOS ANGELES - A message to Dick Durbin, Rick Santorum, and Robert Byrd - as they combine to delay my reports to you about the night I inadvertently offered Bill Clinton my New York City subway pass, and my experiences behind the scenes at "The Tonight Show," and my private eight minutes with Mary Carey.
The message is this: Boys, just don’t say "Nazi" ever again in your life.
There’s no place for the reference in this culture. Not about the Republican tactics, not about the Democratic tactics, not about Guantanamo Bay.
The Republicans are not the SS, and the Democrats are not the Gestapo, and Gitmo is not Buchenwald.
Apologize profoundly and profusely, burst into tears if you will, but the analogies are wrong, offensive, and deeply hurtful. And I speak as a European of protestant descent.

OMG! Look everyone! Leather's 1st factually backed post ever! Big day for you, bud. Sit back and enjoy your newfound skills!
Based on his previous record, we'll see another fact-containing message from him sometime around the Twelfth of Never.
Fair enough. Are you going to take O'Reilly to task for blaming Americans for Nazi atrocities?
I would think the mock salute would be understandable if the subject was the one who was pulling the Nazi reference unwarranted and out of thin air?
Hey, I think someone on this forum predicted this yesterday. Psychic!
Yes, that was me since Olbermann gets his material from this site it was a no-brainer!! ;-)
Sigh.
I still love Keith.
And if you fellas had any taste, you'd develop man crushes on Keith too.
Holly,
And he knows sports, I mean he really knows sports. I think I'm going to cry.
Don't cry. Just crush with me. We'll think coquettish thoughts in symphony.
I'll crush with you Holly, Olbermann is a breath of fresh air in vast atmosphere of foul rightwing media smog
Sorry, Keith is not mancrush-worthy.

Brother did you just link a NY Post article...c'mon
That is bringing a knife to a gun fight
Hey, that's the same link that Peghen employed yesterday and we laughed at it yesterday. C'mon, Mr. Helmet. You can do better than that. Much better.
Apparently, alot of women laugh at Mr. Olbermann.
Not this woman. I pine. He's a stud.
Think Citation.
Think Man O' War.
Think Secretariat with a little more wood in his wang.
Thanks for crushing with me, edenscape246494.

Holly, can't do it. I already looked at the Howard Stern boobie show and am no longer clean. I LIKE IT!
Snoop, despair not. Progressives are so pure that we revirginize, even when it's just our boobie-sullied eyes that need to revirginize. If you want to accelerate the revirginization of your eyes, just think of pristine virgin forests, protected by progressive legislation.
Interesting theory. Globalization is a real problem.
Yes! The U.S. should do what China did centuries ago and just shut themselves off from the rest of the world!! Oh,... wait- they kinda already have done that...
Import tariffs, my good man. If we don't change the current trade situation we'll have alot bigger problems to worry about than dead Germans.
Goto www.adl.org for a press release on Beck's outrageous remarks.
I'm going to say this before Peg posts.
Keith put on an Bill O mask and waved. OK
I do not have an opinion on this thread, my issue was the double standard with Bernard McGuirk. The ADL Statement speaks for itself.
Peg, the double standard is you. You have no problem with Imus and McGuirk for years attacking African Americans, gays, women, Catholics but you bring up anti semitism yesterday? Please
I find it funny that Mr. "I-Love-History" Beck equates Hitler to the U.N. Even if you buy his paranoid notion that the U.N. is trying to rule the world, it's not quite the same as Hitler's dream of conquering the world by force and placing it under the thumb of the "master race". But, Beck's agenda obviously has more to do with promoting Right Wing whackery than historical accuracy.
Clearly, if Beck were required to make actual logical connections he'd be struck dumb. Lovely thought.
Just musing, Peg. Not a call for censorship.
It's neat how everyone loves to rag on Beck here, but the entire point of his statement has been smothered by everyone's raging hatred of the man. His POINT is that the scare tactics are exactly the same as those employed by Hitler and his regime. Google 'eugenics' to learn a little something about how science and fear were used to justify the eventual disaster of the holocaust.
Beck is NOT calling Gore Hitler. He is comparing the tactics used to sway public opinion.
Except for the fact that the "science" you refer to was used to target human beings for extermination. The target here is a problem that the entire human species faces together.
No he isnt saying he IS Hitler he is saying he is using the same tactics. OK, so if that statement has validity where are the Global warming concentration camps, which several million people are being starved, worked as slave labor, and being gassed to death in the name of Global Warming? Cough them up or show yourself out in disgrace for the vast stupidity of supporting such vile and ignorant statement.
wait...is someone gonna beat the why no IMUS worst person horse...LOL
Keith is soooooo offended!
This guy is a freaking joke.
Comparing Bill O to Hitler is ok though, right libs?
Yes. He has many qualities in common with Hitler. That's what makes a good comparison.
Thanks for proving my point on what hypocrites you liberals are
Oi ! Slapnuts...we already covered this at post one, introducing the Reply function
rookies
Please explain why it is ok for Keith to do it but no one else should.
Who says it is ?
In the past two days, I've posted several times about how awful it is to compare anyone to Hitler. Do you wanna chat about that or do you wanna fight? I'm a lib and there's seemingly common ground here. However, some folks are addicted to conflict.
"Conflict-junkies," I call 'em.
If that's so with you, I won't be your fix.
And I won't try to fix ya.
No interventions coming from me, no siree.
Thanks for being an example of what morons conservatives are.
Taking a page from Tommy-Boy's book: how can you disparage all liberals when only one person made a comment?
Nobody is Hitler but Hitler.
Till you have started a World War you are no Hitler.
Bill-O isn't competent enough to start a BBQ let alone a World War.
So, everyone, drop the Nazis and Hitler comparisons till the next World War is in progress.
Which begins on January 19, 2009, when Bush refuses to leave the White House and launches the entire US nuclear (nukular) arsenal.
And then Bush is the next Hitler. But since we are all dead, nobody will care one way or another.
Randy
Poignant point. When all humans are dead, there will be noone to remember us. We will be irrelevant forever and ever. Unless we include the other life forms in our paradigm of what matters or at least an environment to recreate other life forms. - --- Save the trees!
Fantagor, I'm not playing dumb, I get your (and others) point about using the Nazi analogies. They stir up emotions, offend those directly or indirectly affected by the Holocaust, and often take civilized debate to a point of no return.
I only commented out of exasperation at yet another poster not understanding the difference between diminishing the actions of the Nazis and mocking those who seemed to have learned nothing from the actions of the Nazis.
I try to avoid the facetious responses to the misguided comments,as they derail threads and encourage the clueless ,but I'm only flesh & blood. ;0)
I disagree to a point with the Godwin's Law crowd. To put an unassailable ban on mention of or comparison to Nazis is, well, sorta Nazi-like. A comparison can be related to one tiny aspect of behavior, not a complete equating of one thing with another.
So, if I see somebody exhibiting behavior that reminds me of a Nazi, I'd like to retain the freedom of saying "Hey, that guy reminds me a little of a Nazi" .
That doesn't mean "He's as horrible as the people that committed those atrocities", just "Hey, the Nazis probably started out as just a little like Nazis. I wish somebody had criticized their behavior a little earlier".
I tend to agree. For example, Karl Rove and his lying toadies are using tactics quite similar to the Nazi propagandists. No, it doesn't mean that Karl Rove is going to kill anyone, only that his underhanded tactics are similar.
As for Kieth Olbermann, the troglodytes have standing orders to attack him whenever possible, because he is the only talking head on prime time cable who has the balls to call Bush and Cheney the liars that they are. That is not acceptable in the land of the Troglodytes.
I've been looking for the MMFA artical where they are outraged that Keith compaired O'Reilly to Hitler, but I just can't find it. Must be something wrong with their search engine.
Ah, you are a conflict junkie.
Go youtube Douglas/Tyson for your conflict fix.
Or go watch, "The Springer Show."
Or go read MMFA's mission. Their mission isn't to document progressives' bad behavior.
Oh, just go.
Shoo, fly, you bother me.
Olbermann was wrong, but wasn't O'Reilly wrong to implicate Americans for war crimes the Nazis committed against Americans? He did it not once, but twice. Does that make me at least a Nazi sympathizer? The second time he did it was after a viewer attempted to correct him. Maybe he should try "the google"
This just in: Olbermann names Paul Harvey Worst Person in the World. AFT.
Why does anyone give a rat's arse about who Olbermann thinks is a bad person? Every night he picks people out to smear. Beck is actually trying to make the world a better place. What is Olbermann's goal?
Beck has gathered support for victims of crime, violence and abuse overseas, he has rallied for support of troops and to get them the supplies they need, he has offered to all of those that disagree with him to appear on his shows to debate topics of interest and legitimate concern in our world. He's one of the very few that see the true threats that we face, and he backs them with FACTS, not emotions.
Perhaps if some of you would actually watch his show a couple of times, you might see the truth. I've tried to watch Olbermann and other liberals to stay informed. I wish the left would do the same.
I'm glad you're open to ideas from both sides. Truly.
"Why does anyone give a rat's arse about who Olbermann thinks is a bad person? Every night he picks people out to smear. Beck is actually trying to make the world a better place. What is Olbermann's goal?"
KO smears no one! He repeats the things they do and say. These people smear themselves. I find it hard to believe that Beck gives a shiite about making the world a better place. I've listened to this hate monger. Here's a couple of his more memorable quotes; "I'd drill right through a reindeer's head if I thought there was oil down there. . ." "It took me about a month before I started hating the 9-11 victims, but I started hating the Katrina victims a lot sooner."
There you have it, an admitted hate monger. Now explain to me how Beck's hate will make the world a better place.
"Beck is actually trying to make the world a better place."
So, you mean Beck's a bleeding-heart liberal? BTW, exactly what world is Beck trying make a better place? I have watched him (painfully) a few times and it astounds me that such an empty-headed person has his own national cable show. It would please me to no end if he had an informative, intelligent and interesting show to watch. But he's all fluff... mostly incoherent fluff at that. I wish Mr. Beck great success in making the world (wherever his world may be) a better place. But maybe he should start by just trying to make a better show... you know, baby steps.
Olbermann is the only thing going in the cable news department.
Corporate news channels are a 3 ring circus, and we are the kids sitting there with our popcorn waiting for something to scare us. But now I am actually pulling for the lion instead of the trainer.
Glen Beck should just have stated that Gore uses the BIG LIE like the nazis did. Gore is phony with an IQ of 91 pretending he actually knows something. The whole humans are causing global warming tirade is just another way for Gore to make money. It is a business to him and he has done well with it. He is a capitalist that does not care about whom he hurts, only the amount of money he can make.
Gagalert, you repeat things real purty.
I have a stupid question that I'd like answered if anyone is up to it; I remember the Olbermann Nazi Salute debacle. A lot of the posters who attack Olbermann for it imply that it's been done multiple times, but I only ever see reference to the one time.
How many times has Olbermann done the salute and if it was done more than once, was it the same circumstance?
