Olbermann named Hannity "Worst Person," with Bay Buchanan as runner-up
On the May 29 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named Fox News host Sean Hannity the "winner" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment for stating that Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is " 'not really viewed as somebody that is up to the task of understanding the nature in the battle in the war that's being waged against us' because he got a $400 haircut," as Olbermann put it. As Media Matters for America noted, Hannity made the remark on the May 24 edition of Fox News' Hannity & Colmes. Hannity pointed to a video of Edwards fixing his hair prior to a televised interview and the fact that Edwards recently spent $400 on a haircut, and then asked Jane Fleming, executive director of Young Voter PAC, "You don't see inherent weaknesses here in this campaign?"
On Countdown, Olbermann responded: "Couldn't stand up to Al Qaeda because he gets his hair done? Right, Sean, and your own hair just looks like that right out of bed every morning? And [former Massachusetts Gov.] Mitt Romney's gets to looking like that for free? And President Bush cuts his own hair? What does he use, a Flowbee?"
Also on May 29, Olbermann awarded Bay Buchanan, a Republican strategist and senior adviser to presidential hopeful Rep. Tom Tancredo (R-CO), the "silver" in the "Worst Person" segment for falsely claiming that "after 9-11," Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-NY) "went on national television and fabricated where her daughter was, talked about her daughter out jogging that morning and stopped near the Towers, heard the planes crash. It was all fabricated. It was all made up. Chelsea herself says she never left the apartment that morning."
But as Media Matters documented, Buchanan's own assertion in a May 24 appearance on CNN was inconsistent with the statements of both Hillary and Chelsea Clinton regarding Chelsea's whereabouts on the morning of September 11, 2001. In the interview Buchanan was referring to, Sen. Clinton did not claim that Chelsea was "out jogging that morning and stopped near the Towers, heard the planes crash"; rather, she said that Chelsea "was going to go around the Towers." In addition, Buchanan's assertion that Chelsea said she "never left the apartment that morning" is contradicted by a November 9, 2001, UPI article about a piece Chelsea wrote in Talk magazine:
"When the World Trade Center collapsed on Sept. 11, I was 12 blocks away, (and) nothing has been the same since," Clinton wrote in the December/January issue of Talk magazine, on sale Friday in New York.
[...]
Clinton had been staying with her high school friend Nicole Davison in her apartment near Union Square for a few days in September before she went to England to study at Oxford. After they had coffee together, Davison went to work and Clinton returned to the apartment.
From the May 29 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: Our runner-up: the unfortunate Bay Buchanan -- claiming on CNN that Hillary Clinton, quote, "After 9-11, as a U.S. senator, went on national television and fabricated where her daughter was, talked about how her daughter out jogging that morning and stopped near the Towers, heard the planes crash. It was all fabricated. It was all made up. Chelsea herself says she never left the apartment that morning," unquote.
Except, of course, neither Senator Clinton nor Chelsea Clinton ever said such things. Six days after the attacks, Senator Clinton said of daughter on [NBC's] Dateline, "She'd gone on what she thought would be just a great jog. She was going to go down to Battery Park. She was going to go around the Towers. She went to get a cup of coffee and that's when the plane hit." That would make what Bay Buchanan said fabricated. It was all made up.
But our winner: Sean Hannity -- bashing John Edwards as, quote, "not really viewed as somebody that is up to the task of understanding the nature in the battle in the war that's being waged against us" because he got a $400 haircut. Hannity even played videotape of Edwards doing his hair before he did a TV interview.
Couldn't stand up to Al Qaeda because he gets his hair done? Right, Sean, and your own hair just looks like that right out of bed every morning? And Mitt Romney's gets to looking like that for free? And President Bush cuts his own hair? What does he use, a Flowbee? Sean Hannity: today's Worst Person in the World!

Media Matters: The right-wing media's election analysis just ain't that good
The Friday Rush: For conservatives, $400 million buys defeat at the ballot box
The myth of Fox News' ratings spike

I must disagree with Keith. In order to be the "worst person", one must actually have a chance of doing some harm somewhere by one's comments. Hannity is increasingly passing from the ability to even influence the most gullible (FOX viewers).
Now, "STUPIDEST" person in the world? That would gain Hannity my vote!
Ya know, Tex, this haircut thing is all it takes for FOX "News" viewers to turn away from Edwards. That might have an impact on the election.
Also, I was wondering "where's the misinformation." (just had to say that before the wingnuts did)
Here comes the mission statement nazi's.
Worst Person?
Well, the term "Worst Person in the World" is obviously an exaggeration for humorous effect, so we shouldn't get too uptight about it. No one, including Olbermann, would deny that there are truly worse people than those he skewers.
I liken the whole process to your fellow Texan Jim Hightower's "Gooberhead Award," which, as he says, is "presented periodically to those in the news who have their tongues running 100-miles an hour... but forgot to put their brains in gear." These are always classics.
Personally I think Sean is deserving of the WPITW award for just about everything that comes out of his mouth. His pathetic defense of the late Jerry Falwell in a heated exchange with Christopher Hitchens may be his worst offense. The late so-called reverend was pro apatheid and regularly hosted George Wallace on his Old Time Gospel Hour, and we are to believe he was a good man?? How about is right-wing exclusive 'Freedom Concert'. Or his constant h***-on for anything Ann Coulter says. Give him the award every night.
Don't forget the years of purposely deleted gospel hour preachings Falwell did about dissing civil rights. He hated the civil rights movement, but went to great lengths to cover his preachings about it so he could become the mouthpiece of religion.
Hitchins is a perfect example that the masses can't handle the truth. The the right wing "sheep" are really interested in having their antiquated and twisted views primarily based on fear, superstition, jealousy, revenge, hate, greed and anger reenforced. would seem how fake noos gets its ratings and how hannity makes his money. falwell did the same thing. No doubt in my mind hannity believes his ancestors herded dinosaurs. Truth. imperical facts, science and hard core in your face reality are concepts completely foreign to these charlatans. They are the personafication of evil. They are dangerous because they indoctrinate with tactics used by the nazis. carl rove is propaganda minister and hanitty is a field marshall. I vote for euthinazia for all of them. Just kidding, hannity makes me laugh.
I vote for spelling lessons for you.
It's not Bay Buchannon, it's Big Buttcannon. Descriptive of where it pulls it's facts from...
I have to say, Hannity is in his own class among the righty talkers. The others all have a gaffe, or a "what was I thinking" moment, an off-the-cuff remark that they have to backpedal on or explain.
For Sean, these are scripted and repeated positions. Ideas like a connection between hair care and national security might happen to some of the others when they're drunk or tired, but I picture Hannity sitting down at his desk, writing and re-writing these pinhead talking points.
You can see it in the imbecilic grin on his mug, he's actually proud of his material, and seems as genuinely surprised at the mocking he receives as he was at the lack of universal reverence for Jerry Falwell.
I agree. I think Savage is insane and Limbaugh a windbag but they arent stupid people. Hannity is bone stupid, dumb as a post.
If hannity ate a deep fried cow brain sandwich it would double his IQ. If he had a brain he would take it out and play with it. He is as dumb as a half eaten bag of Rocky Mountain oysters. He has baby bush-brown-ring-around-the-collar. He gets memos from limpdaughhhh sent to him in an old oxycontin bottle. He is on one of b.o.'s coolaid IV drip feed programs.
Sean Hannity nearly makes Glen Beck look like an intellectual.
Nearly.
I have empathy for beck. He gelatinized his neurons with large quantities of the solvent alcohol. He is going to hurt himself trying to use his brain. Listening to him is jsut embarassing. He does not make me laugh like hannity of b.o.. beck is just mentally ill and it is just sad. I am guessing his IQ at 92 93 tops.
hannity or b.o.
Hannity is bone stupid, dumb as a post.
Correction: SOME posts.
I've seen posts here that descend to "Hannity" level, but others reach the heights of "moronic" and most are far better.
If hannity had stayed in the seminary he would be a full blown pedophile by now.
What gets me about Hannity, Beck, Savage, Coulter, and the rest of these self-appointed "super patriots" is that they go on and on about how much our country and our people are threatened by Muslim terrorists, yet they refuse to join the military and do their part in protecting their own families. I've written them many times asking why they refuse to join the military, but all I get in reply is a pitch for their latest book.
They (and baby bush) should volunteer as suicide bombers and go out in the middle of a desert and blow themselves up. This would benefit mankind beyond anything they have ever done to date. They could also donate their living corpse for bayonet practice. I understand they all volunteered as living chum for great white shark research but were rejected on the grounds it could make the sharks ill.
ARTH, what did Clinton reply when you sent him that same letter?
I think the most obvious point is the one that Keith O. made, all of these people pay to have their hair done!!! These people are all in the public eye and they are seen on TV. I am sure most politicians have seen the old clips of Nixon sweating and looking terrible and JFK looking great during their first televised debate. No politician in the world is going to deny that how he or she looks can affect how they perceived by voters. Of course they pay attention to, and spend money on, how they look!!! Anyone in the public eye who says they don't, or pretends that it is not an issue for themselves, is a liar. That means you Sean.
What is the right's fascination with hair? First, it was the widely-spread lie that President Clinton tied up air traffic at LAX while getting a haircut (totally false) and Bay Buchanan's armchair psychoanalysis of Senator Clinton's hairstyles. Should we just avoid the debate and run Telly Savalas as our candidate?
I disagree with Olberman this time. Bay Buchanan is the worst person in the world on my list. Another desperate right-wing liar posing as a christian. She was one of Bush's greatest fans. Now she has nothing better to do than write a whole book full of lies about Hilary Clinton.
Not to mention... what a hard-looking woman Bay Buchanan is. All the $400 haircuts in the world wouldn't help the way she looks. How does the old saying go... "in the end, we wear the face we deserve." She's well on her way, I'd say.
You're dead on about Bay. Personally, I think "Bay" is just Pat Buchanan's attempt to pull a Garth Brooks - put on a wig and try a new genre.
The Left has Rosie.
Perfect.
I disagree that Hannity is dumb or insane. I believe he is just marketing himself to an uninformed audience for $$$.
That's why he and Coulter get along so well - they're both in this for the cash.
And you posters ARE his market.
Otherwise, why the preoccupation?
