Boortz: "I don't care if Mexicans pile up against that fence ... [J]ust run a couple of taco trucks up and down the line"

On the June 18 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Neal Boortz advocated building a "double fence along the Mexican border, and stop the damn invasion." Boortz continued: "I don't care if Mexicans pile up against that fence like tumbleweeds in the Santa Ana winds in Southern California. Let 'em. You know, then just run a couple of taco trucks up and down the line, and somebody's gonna be a millionaire out of that."
On the June 11 edition of his show, a caller asked, "Why can't we just load them on planes and keep on loading them until they're back?" Boortz later responded, "We're not gonna throw these people out of airplanes with taco-shaped parachutes."
Neal Boortz is a nominee for the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame 2007 Career Achievement Award.
From the June 11 broadcast of Cox Radio Syndication's The Neal Boortz Show:
CALLER: How can George Bush make a statement that we cannot send them back? Why is that not possible? We have more power than any other country in this world, and we have more airplanes than any country in this world. Why can't we just load them on planes and keep on loading them until they're back?
BOORTZ: OK. I'll give you one practical answer to that. You load illegal aliens on a plane, and then all the Mexican government has to do is deny that plane permission to land in Mexico.
CALLER: Ever hear of parachutes?
BOORTZ: Uh-uh. [Caller], that's not gonna happen. We're not --
CALLER: I know that.
BOORTZ: We're not gonna throw these people out of airplanes with taco-shaped parachutes. They will -- I'm sympathetic with your point of view. They will self deport.
CALLER: Right, right.
From the June 18 broadcast of Cox Radio Syndication's The Neal Boortz Show:
BOORTZ: I mean, it's clear. There is no intent to shut the border down. None. If there was, they [Congress] would do what the American people want them to do: pass a law, appropriate the money, and fund it -- to build a double fence along the Mexican border, and stop the damn invasion. I don't care if Mexicans pile up against that fence like tumbleweeds in the Santa Ana winds in Southern California. Let 'em. You know, then just run a couple of taco trucks up and down the line, and somebody's gonna be a millionaire out of that. But there's no intent in this -- what, taco truck -- OK -- I gotta -- I gotta tell you why that's a -- back in a moment.

Oh my aching ass...that's funny...and relevant.
Really? I thought it was racist and disgusting. To each his own.
Sounds like the kind of childish logic two punk 15 year old kids would use. "Yeah we got more a-panes dan anyone..whee!" Yeah 28 million plus passengers flown on the average, for instance, 128 to 149 capacity of the 737 pax carry load. No problem, sound logic lets keep it going. "Hey we could get Batman and the awesome Silver Surfer to help". "Boortz, he could make taco shaped parachutes and drop them. Tee hee. WTF is wrong with these self-aggrandizing morons? This Boortz idiot really showcases the level of feeble discourse in this fat dumb and happy, lowest common denominator, shock jock radio culture.
Obviously Bush and his open border buddies in the Congress don't give a damn what the people want when they hear their reasoned and vocal opposition to this hideous immigration bill.......maybe it takes a little classic "Boortz politically incorrectness" to bend their ears to what the people demand, for a change.
Worth a try.....
I don't know what your beef is with illegal immigrants. There are times I'm more proud of illegal immigrants than I am with my fellow Americans.
Do you know what effort and determination it takes to get here in the United States? A lot compared to sitting on the sofa watching America Idol.
A vast majority of these illegal aliens works a dogs job. Compared to being a rich white Republican frat boy born with a silver spoon in his mouth crying mommy every two seconds.
If only America had that kind of spirit to get off the American Idol channel and really do something in this country.
If America had the same kind of effort, determination and will power that illegal immigrants are showing we might actually amount to something as a Nation. But as it is we are the laughing stock of all history and Bush being in office to proves it.
Do you know what effort it takes for law abiding people to enter this country legally, go through the system and immigrate the proper and legal way?
Sorry, but slapping them in the face by rewarding lawbreaking illegal immigrants isn't my idea of fairness. It has nothing to do with their worthiness, despite your pathetic attempt to reframe the issue.
You sound like Judge Dredd. I can hear your voice sounding robotic, "It's against the law."
I'll bet you would make sure a man serves time stealing a loaf of bread. Never mind he stoled it to feed his starving family the point is that "it's agains the law."
And after the guy gets out of jail and starts a whole new life becoming mayor of a town you would recognize him and tell the whole town, "he broke the law," therefore ruining the man's newfound life.
When you and the man finally have a show down and he asks you why you keep hounding him you will answer, "I follow the law."
Hel-Lo?!?!?! They ARE criminals. They broke the law to get here. The CHOSE to leave their families and go to America. We didn't LURE them here, they came here willingly. If they file taxes they do so ILLEGALLY (something you and I would go to jail for). A crime is a crime.
Perhaps if they worked as hard on improving their own country they wouldn't have to find work elsewhere.
You make it sound like every illegal visitor comes here with the dream of finding an honest living to provide for poor old mamacita back in Mexico City. What about the drunk drivers, the murders, the gang member and the drug dealers that make their LIVING by repeatedly crossing our borders? Step down from your world of candy canes and chocolate kisses, reality is quite different than your pipe dream.
And you make it sound like they are a bunch of lawless criminals who disrespect the laws of the land. I know you like your black and white pasty version better, but fact is the truth is somewhere in between.
"If they file taxes they do so ILLEGALLY (something you and I would go to jail for). A crime is a crime."
WRONG. They can get a special number (a LEGAL ONE) and file their taxes. It is called a ITIN (Individual Tax Identification Number) So it might come as a surprise to a lot of folks, but there are "illegal" immigrants that are paying taxes just like everybody else.
I didn't know that, thanks for pointing that out!
Lgeally, some illegal aliens (I've got no problem with the term) are criminals. However, some illegal aliens are not criminals, specifically those who entered legally but overstayed.
Oui, Oui, Jean, and there are so many Javert's running around on this site!
What a world we live in.
Today, the Javerts of the world are the heroes.
Hey Tommy,
I'm an immigrant. It took 13 years for me and my family to become citizens. Is that fair? I'm a college educated student, my dad is a mining engineer, my mother is a teacher. I'm fluent in several languages. I teach at a school. Let's get this straight: People do what they need to do to feed their families, to make a good life for themselves. America has opportunities that Mexico doesnt because Mexico's government has concerned themselves with their own monetary ambition, much like so many politicians here have.
You seem more bent out of shape about the law-breaking aspect than why the laws are there in the first place. If we have a better border system, we can get strong workers, smart people from all cultures, not just people within the borders of our country. There is no reason good, intelligent, hard-working people who would be positive influences on our community should be denied or delayed their right to opportunity and a better life.
I understand your concerns and the burden it causes the American taxpayer. I hope it is only out of this concern and not because you have some preconceived notion of all Mexican people. But if that is your concern you should take a look at the real unfairness of our class-structured society. (i.e. why our education and healthcare systems are dysfunctional...and don't even try to rebut that they are dysfuntional because of illegal immigrants. They are dysfunctional at a systemic level.) Maybe that would be time better spent.
but that is saying that we have an obligation to take any mexican here because they have a screwed up government. the answer would seem to be to fix the government in mexico.
I wish it was that simple. Not to sound accusatory, but do you feel obligated to every citizen within our borders? Do you even feel obligated to the people who are in the same neighborhood? This is in our own country, yet we don't even care about the people in it. We should care about anyone who wants to make a better life for themselves be they Italian, Swedish, Mexican or anything really. As long as they do so without harming someone else on the way.
The US is a place of tremendous resources, and to blame immigrants for the burden while our own politicians are indulging themselves and their PACs, corporations, etc., is pointing the finger in the wrong direction. The United States has the capacity to educate and instill in anyone the self-suffiency necessary to make it in life. The US should work with the Mexican government to improve everyone's condition. Many jobs can be created through cooperation. Both economies can prosper. The US should work with any government in the world if it involves shared cooperation and help for the people, themselves. But it's the governments, not the people that we should condemn. Many times people are left with very little choice. We have to be able to face our failures and correct them, not with some unimaginably long arm of the law, but with strategic systematic changes. There can be happiness and prosperity for all.
yes, it's true we have tremendous resources, but they are not unlimited. nor can we accept unlimited numbers of people. and you are also incorrect that immigrants do not affect the school system. immigrants to this country have a higher birth rate than native born americans. that is a fact, not an opinion. my contention was that if mexico is inadequately serving the needs of it's people, they need to change their system and vote in those who will do a better job, just as we should. i don't see how that is even arguable. and i don't need your lectures on who i care for in this country or neighborhood.
It's why I hate the phrase "illegal aliens:" it puts people - the overwhelming majority of whom come to this country to make a decent living and put food on their family - on the same level as a petty criminal
Jesus F-ing Christ. I am sick of this new bug that posts my comments when I try to make a word bold.
Anyway, my point was, before I totally lost the flow of my argument, was that calling someone "illegal" makes it that much easier to "laugh" about killing them by the million. And laughing makes it that much easier to actually do it.
Killing them? What are you talking about? They are called illegal because they are doing something illegal. Why is telling the truth such a highly charged thing these days?
I am saying that people who drive without insurance are not called "illegal drivers." People who park in handicapped spaces are not called "illegal parkers."
Someone who chooses to immigrate without documentation as opposed to living in abject poverty is not, in my humble opinion, deserving of less respect than someone who drives alone in the HOV lane.
It is unfair and improper, again in my humble opinion, to stigmatize a human being as "illegal."
I am saying that people who drive without insurance are not called "illegal drivers." People who park in handicapped spaces are not called "illegal parkers."
YES, they are. Every time they get caught, they are at the mercy of the legal system. Unlike "illegal" aliens, who are able to attend public schools and receive free medical care and are trying to get drivers licenses...all the while being here "illegally". Did you know that illegal means breaking the law?
So if they change the law tomorrow and say it is no longer "illegal" to cross the border, are you going to change your verbage, or go into a deap seated rant against the law?
I am saying that people who drive without insurance are not called "illegal drivers." People who park in handicapped spaces are not called "illegal parkers."
You're correct, they are called Uninsured drivers. People that drive without a License are called Illegal Drivers.
People who park in handicapped spaces, in front of fire hydrants, or in loading or fire zone designated spaces are doing so illegally. I don't think I've ever heard anyone refer to them as Illegal Parkers...but they are just that.
Val, because I respect you & you're my cyber drinking buddy I would like to understand why you object to calling someone who is here in this country Illegally, an Illegal immigrant. If immigrants that went through the proper channels & OBEYED OUR LAWS are Legal immigrants, then those who BREAK OUR LAWS & sneak into this country are...ILLEGAL immigrants.
That's not demeaning or dehumanizing...it's a fact. And it's a proper description. No one is calling them Illegal people or Illegal humans...we are calling them Illegal Immigrants, because that is exactly what they are.
If someone breaks the law & is found guilty, we refer to them as criminals. Do you also feel it will stigmatize a human being if we call them a Criminal?
Well, it is against the law to drive without insurance, at least in California.
I, myself, have never heard any other group of offenders stigmatised as "illegal" anythings. Duke Cunningham is never called an "illegal legislator." Paris Hilton is not an "illegal bubblehead."
My point was specifically that I think this whole enormous group of people (composed, I feel sure, of the same decent-folks-to-crooks ratio as the general human population) is unfairly stigmatised by being called 'illegal.' We associate that term with violent criminals and people who steal, peple who defraud.
It is my opinion that entering this country without proper documentation is a crime on a par with driving with an expired registration, not with knocking over the Pack'n'Pay. I leave aside, for the purpose of this argument, the question of whether unrestricted immigration is good for the U.S. or not -- my position is that applying that term to people makes it easier for this guy to joke about running them down with a truck. And that's just wrong.
I yield the balance of my time.
Well, Cunningham may not be called an "illegal legislator." but he broke the law and is doing the time. If not "illegal," what should we call them?' At this point in time, what they are doing is illegal and unless we can get the laws changed, they should be referred to as such.
Oscar,
I think Val's point is that illegal behavior does not an illegal person make.
Referring to people as illegal precludes our ability to think in an emotionally neutral manner about immigration. It tilts the debate against the person from go, because few have empathy for a criminal, even if the criminal act is performed out of desperation to survive. People are biased against illegal behavior in a way that they are not biased against desperate behavior.
That bias toward illegal behavior is being used as an emotional distraction from the myriad reasons that immigrants are coming here sans due process. Our market that seeks to whittle costs and beef up profits is one reason cheap labor is valued by employers. Fair wages for fair labor is a part of the solution, but the powers that be want us to be angry at Mexicans. They don’t want Americans to be able to afford to pick berries. I’d get out under the sun and pick if only it paid a living wage.
Anyway, without proper perspective of the situation, anger will keep us from finding solutions that benefit all parties involved. That’s why I don’t use that term for undocumented workers.
What you are missing is the blurring of the distinction between what someone DID and WHO they are which is a much deeper identifier. The PERSON is not illegal the ACT he committed is illegal. THAT is the problem Val has and I agree
Don't you just hate it when you sit in traffic in the heat, for what seems like hours as a law abiding driver....and then, wham!, someone goes flying by on the shoulder, or in the closed lane, and passes dozens of cars, and stops the flow of movement while they cut in the front of everyone?
How about standing in line for an hour, waiting to enter with a high priced ticket you bought weeks ago, and just when you reach the entrance, several people climb over the fence, or bolt through a door someone is holding open and sneak in....you complain, but you know they won't be caught because they have already blended into the crowd. Maybe you should be more compassionate.... they just didn't have the money for the ticket?
Question: Should a peron who murders people not be called a murderer?
A person who commits the act of getting drunk and drives shouldn't be "stigmatized" by being called a drunk driver?
Men who beat their wives or abuse their children shouldn't be called wife beaters, or abusers?
People who molest children can't be called molestors because it stigmatizes them?
The act of entering our country unlawfully is an illegal act, so I would guess this is why they are described as illegal as apposed to legal immigrants...those to enter this country legally....not the best gramatical use, but the term is an accurate description of their status...."illegally immigrating" into our country is breaking our laws, not a racial slur, or denigrating, it's a fact. Why do we have to feel sensitive about it? Would you feel better if they were called "unlawfull immigrants"? They are not law-abiding doing this, so that makes them unlawfull.
Harlequin made that point that many think the people who cross the borders are just trying to feed their families and send money back to Mexico to their mothers, and we forget that the unrestricted border crossing also invites back and forth traffic by criminals, drug dealers, and possibly even terrorists. Do we think that JUST hard working, poor, Mexicans can walk over the borders? Don't you suppose that loose control of a border encourages bad people to use it as well? I have NO PROBLEM with Mexicans, or others, entering this country legally-lawfully, through proper channels an millions have done. The first step should be to stop the companies and employers from providing the jobs.
"we forget that the unrestricted border crossing also invites back and forth traffic by criminals, drug dealers, and possibly even terrorists."
Not true, they come irregardless of the border policy. Just ask Russia about that.
But I will agree with enforcing policies against businesses, that is way cheaper method of reducing immigration than any fence would cost.
Snoopy....yes, I agree. Criminals will cross borders no matter what. I was just restating what I thought Harelquin had said, though it was someone else who said it anyways...sorry Harlequin.
Our government makes it too difficult for immigrants to become citizens, yet we discovered after 9/11 that many of the terrorists, or those connected to them, were here on expired papers, or had papers renewed and shouldn't have. We have people seeking asylum from their governments or families because of religious or political persecution. The news is full of stories of people being sent back to their countries in these cases, and yet they may have good jobs, and a lot to lose if they are deported, and it doesn't stop our government from deporting them. Immigration is a mess.
We have companies looking the other way, and working undocumented workers long hours at low pay, in often dangerous jobs, and the only people who benefit are the companies. THAT is where it needs to be stopped. If there are no jobs for undocumented workers, they will need documentation to enter...if even if it's temparary work passes. At least we will we be making an "attempt" to secure records of who is here, and how long they will be here, and what they are doing, and slow the flood of undocumented workers now entering the country.
I remember something a few years ago on one of the network news shows. They sent in a Hispanic reporter to several businesses, and he wasn't asked for documentation, and was offered very low pay for hours of hard work. In a couple places, such as a car dealership, they said he could wash cars for a few hours and see if he would work out. I think they even had him return the next day for more car washing. He was told his work wasn't what they wanted, and they didn't pay him because they said it was to see if he would work out. Had he been a real undocumented worker, he would have worked two days at no pay, with no way to complain. Are these rare occurences?
Yes you call a murderer a murderer. When you talk about him though do you usually just identify him as 'that murderer'? This is the distinction I am talking about. Sure you see the guy tell him he immigrated illegally. When talking about them, that is when identifying them why identify them exclusively by their crime? I get what you are saying. I am not claiming it ISNT illegal. Terms which seem to me to be designed specifically to dehumanize make me queazy.
It is my opinion that entering this country without proper documentation is a crime on a par with driving with an expired registration, not with knocking over the Pack'n'Pay.
Well Val, yes and no. Entering this country illegally is breaking a law far more serious than driving with an expired registration or license. But perhaps not on par with other more egregious lawbreaking like robbery or a violent crime.
Would you object to Documented immigrants as opposed to Undocumented immigrants? It seems to me that would be a compromise that most folks could agree upon.
I leave aside, for the purpose of this argument, the question of whether unrestricted immigration is good for the U.S. or not
Val my position on this [if I understand what you're getting at] is that we need at least a 5 year moratorium on legal immigration [10 would be better] in order to get our house in order. Then we need to seal our borders [fence, wall, National Guard] whatever it takes to stop the flow of illegal immigration.
Then we can deal with the 12 million or so Undocumented immigrants that are already here. Those that have committed crimes should be deported, unable to return. The others should return to their place of origin and get in line to enter this country legally. Some can qualify for a temporary guest worker program, however this does not put them at the front of the line for legal citizenship. Amnesty [and no matter what they claim this current mishmash of a Bill is--it is amnesty] should NOT be an option. This country does not have unending resources to deal with the overflow of people that want to come here. At some point we need to admit that, and deal with it honestly. If that means shutting off immigration for a designated time period, then so be it.
Folks born here, or who arrived here going through the proper channels are getting frustrated. And angry. THAT is the danger that will eventually lead to someone actually running folks down with a truck...or other violent acts.
Entering this country illegally is breaking a law far more serious than driving with an expired registration or license.
In the eyes of the law, not true. The driving offenses are misdemeanors in most states. So is entering illegally. Yet, being in the U.S. illegally, as long as the entry was legal, is only a civil offense, not a misdemeanor.
Yeah, Jeter, undocumented immigrants is the term I generally use.
I am more-or-kinda-less there with you in terms of moving forward. I don't think the U.S. absorbing the millions that have come and will come is the crisis you seem to think it is, but I will freely admit to not having studied the problem. I think of it like weather - a big dynamic that we have to deal with whether we want to or not. It seems to me that the cost of any closure of the border that would be sufficient to make a significant dent in the flow of people north would probably be disproportionate to the benefit. 3,000 miles of desert and arroyo is going to be hard as hell to secure.
My point, I guess, is that these are not all bad people - I would go so far as to assert that the overwhelming majority are decent, hard-working family people. I don't like any rhetoric that demonises them as a group - fine with me if one is upset about the policy (or lack thereof), I just have no use for anyone popping off with this "taco truck" garbage.
Dehumanisation for fun and profit.
Good god. WTF don't you understand about the word criminal? They BROKE THE LAW to enter the country. This automatically makes them a petty criminal.
Would you be happy if we changed our immigration policy to match that of Mexico? Non-residents can't own land or vote. They can also be shot for crossing the border. If our border guards shoot they end up in jail.
So, you would have no problem with me and my family moving into a spare room in your house and helping ourselves to the comforts that would provide, including food, utilities, etc. And, by the way, we wouldn't be paying rent. And maybe I'll just invite a few of my friends (and their families) over to stay for say 10 - 15 years or so. And at the end of that time, we will maybe give you a couple of hundred $ or so and we could call everthing square. How does that sound?
Of course, you won't mind if I build a fence around your house, charge you money to maintain it, and you will be totally fine if I send the military in periodically to kick in your door in the middle of the night and haul you downtown to verify your nationality because you have nothing to hide. And those redundant passport checks every time you cross another county line won't bother you because you have nothing to hide. Your every move watched and recorded. Sounds good, right?
Oh, and you also won't mind if i remind you that the house you call yours is built on land you government stole from me around 5 generations ago, and that the suffering of people in my country is intrinsically linked to the prosperity of your country.
Maybe you and I can work something out. As an ancestor to Irish immigrants who arrived during the potato famine I'd be interested in realigning my nationality away from the european immigrants who continue to act against my best wishes and continue to rob me blind to boot. Care to join forces?
Let's see. That would be a double fence, o.k., already paying maintenance on one (called property tax). If that fence kept you out, that's ok. If the police came around every twenty years looking for you, I have nothing to hide (unless you sneaked in uninvited again). As long as the law is applied equally, I have no problem. And for TomJoad, if you can prove the 5 generation thing, we probably can work something out.
So, since you're ok with that then, why wait? You can have everything you just agreed to today! And it only costs $1500 for a one way ticket to Russia. Enjoy your newfound nervana!
I have everything (except for the double fence and the periodic visits by military/police). Why would I give that up? I can understand that if I didn'thave what I wanted in life, I might want to look at immigrating to a country with a higher standard of living (Russia wouldn't be the first choice), but I would do that in accord with the laws of the country I was planning to immigrate to (or I would just move North or South of the US border and walk across undocumented, committing an illegal act). I read people here all the time that say they (the undocumented, primarily from the South) are coming here to better their lives. OK, I understand. I also understand we are a nation of laws and if people go about ignoring those laws and their transgressions are overlooked, we are on a slope to anarchy. If one can enter the country illegally and enjoy the benefits of doing so, why should I not be allowed to drive 100 mph? Because I am endangering others, some would say. Well, if the undocumented are taking jobs (at low wages), are not they endangering our standard of living?
considering I've got away with speeding so many times, are you sure you want to make that your base argument? ;)
Yep, if you (or I) get caught speeding, I'm sure we will get more than a slap on the wrist, especially if that speeding endangers others. Enough of those violations in a given period of time, we might even lose the privilege to drive legally (suspended license). Also, in most places in this country, our insurance premium takes a hit with each of those violations. I'm sure you could find other analogies, but I will stick with this one for now. Maybe another in another discussion on the matter of unregistered (as opposed to illegal) immigrants.
"Taco-shaped parachutes"? This diss is neither clever nor funny. This is why you "No Amnesty" types are going to end up having to cave to "Amnesty". American civil society will not succumb to increasingly racist bullying this debate is degenerating into. The stupider elements within your movement are racists and as long as those racist voices get louder and louder, I believe the country will feel ashamed. And they say people of color are just imagining racism; douchebags like Boortz, Savage, et al, prove ON A DAILY BASIS that the "funny vibe" we feel trying to live in America, even as assimilated Americans, is real. To the wonderful America that talk radio claims to represent we will always just be Taco-eaters? I guess it beats having to admit that Mexicans do the jobs...
Compromise means not getting everything you want. I did find it interesting that in a June poll from NBC/WSJ, when people were asked about 6 different provisions of the bill, 4 of them got high marks, while 2 of them, specifically those that deal with illegals already in the U.S., was strongly opposed.
Why ignore the will of the people? Par for the course for Bush and Congress I guess.
"[M]aybe it takes a little classic 'Boortz politically incorrectness' to bend their ears to what the people demand..."
It's called racism, Tommy, not classic political incorrectness. You actually think that racist comments like these are going to help?
No... it's a stereotype. Mexicans eat tacos. Damned good tacos at that. White people tend to be bad dancers and don't run very fast. Black people are sometimes very athletic or very good singers, Italians often talk with their hands, Indians are known to drive lots of cabs or work at convenience stores, Jews have a tendency to be really good with money, Asians have been known to be very good at doing school work (as well as acclimating to our society and doing quite well in school). I could go on. They are called stereotypes.
The POINT is that lots and lots of Americans are SICK and TIRED of the crap that our government is doing. Perhaps it takes some colorful language to get attention and make a point be heard.
Yes, it's a stereotype. One based on race. Therefore, it is racist. Not "colorful," not "classic," but racist." If you feel that racist sterreotypes are necessary in order to make your point be heard, then that just about tells us everything we need to know about you and your positions.
Those are stereotypes and they FURTHER racist stigmas. I wrestled for 6 years in that six years I lost to a black person ONE TIME. I have beat MANY of them playing one on one basketball. They are for simpleminded fools and when used EVER to ridicule its RACIST. This is pretty easy to understand.
Cannon,
Race baiting vulture victims play the race card at every opportunity with ease. Their pathetic existence is only fueled when they can deal from the bottom of their racist deck.
I sincerely hope nobody here on this board stoops to such levels - and I imagine if they feel compelled to respond, that charge must have hit a nerve. I don't look for it from anyone here, however - it was just a broad statement of fact.
So, in your world, Boortz's taco jokes aren't racist, and anyone who claims that the comments are racist are "race baiting vulture victims"? And despite the fact that multiple people in this thread have already pointed out that Boortz's comments are in fact racist, you "sincerely hope nobody here on this board stoops to such levels"? I guess by "sincerely" you mean "disingenuously"?
Racist appologist cretins just cant help themselves. They get such a kick out of racism that when someone else CALLS people on racist BS they just get all mushy inside and are forced to pull out the race baiting card. In their world racist rhetoric is all well and good but CALLING people on racist rhetoric just spoils their fun.
Don't you get it? According to Tommylogic, we responded, so that means that we lose. I think it also means that we're "vulture victims," whatever that means.
These comments will be interesting to recall the next time somebody attempts to claim that this issue doesn't have a racial element. If there's no racial element, then why would some good old "classic political incorrectness" be thought of as an effective way to promote their position? Obviously that question answers itself.
>>maybe it takes a little classic "Boortz politically incorrectness" to bend their ears to what the people demand, for a change.
Why go to that much trouble? Maybe we can just watch old clips of Archie Bunker.
Boortz with his openly racist hatred, Savage on the next thread with his openly anti-gay hatred ... the rightwing have their hate meters turned to "high".
Wesley, with his "oh, my aching ass" ... I think maybe he meant to post on the Savage thread ... more appropriate ....
Now, Tex, don't mind-read. The clever taco-themed humor of Boortz might be responsible for the spicy reaction.
Oops Tex......your lecture about anti-gay slurs is trumped by your "aching ass" comment.
Usually your posts contradict, but normally not so blatantly.
Do you know how to READ tommy? He was QUOTING from Wesely's opening statement. Get your mind out of the closet AND the gutter.
Solon,
You are the one who can't read. Tex specifically said Wes' comment would be better on the Savage thread, the "gay" thread - because according to Tex and his anti-gay slur, all gays have an aching ass........get it? It's not hard to follow.
But your defense of Tex is endearing, nonetheless.
I concede your point. I dont see it as an anti gay comment rather a conflation of racist bigotry with anti gay bigotry but I absolutly missed the connection you made. My appologies.
The crops are all in and the peaches are rotting,
The oranges are piled in their creosote dumps;
They're flying 'em back to the Mexican border
To pay all their money to wade back again
Chorus:
Goodbye to my Juan, goodbye, Rosalita,
Adios mis amigos, Jesus y Maria;
You won't have your names when you ride the big airplane,
All they will call you will be "deportees"
My father's own father, he waded that river,
They took all the money he made in his life;
My brothers and sisters come working the fruit trees,
And they rode the truck till they took down and died.
Some of us are illegal, and some are not wanted,
Our work contract's out and we have to move on;
Six hundred miles to that Mexican border,
They chase us like outlaws, like rustlers, like thieves.
We died in your hills, we died in your deserts,
We died in your valleys and died on your plains.
We died 'neath your trees and we died in your bushes,
Both sides of the river, we died just the same.
The sky plane caught fire over Los Gatos Canyon,
A fireball of lightning, and shook all our hills,
Who are all these friends, all scattered like dry leaves?
The radio says, "They are just deportees"
Is this the best way we can grow our big orchards?
Is this the best way we can grow our good fruit?
To fall like dry leaves to rot on my topsoil
And be called by no name except "deportees"?
-Woody Guthrie
I was driving around in old Mexico,I got lost and didn't know which way to go,I was confused, it was late and I was in a fog,I ran over the Taco Bell dog.I felt that smush and I said, "Oh mama"My low rider crushed that little Chihuahua.I prayed for forgiveness in a Synagogue,I ran over the Taco Bell dog.If I am caught they will put me in a cell with 20 locks,Unless I can pin it on Jack in the Box.I'll be whipped, then beaten and then I'll be flogged,I ran over the Taco Bell dog.His last words were, "Yo quiero el mdico",I flattened that pup, to Hell I would go.I should of skipped driving and gone for a jog,I ran over the Taco Bell dog.
It's almost plagiarism to post lyrics and not attribute them to the author.
No sure, I think it was Weird Al Yankovic.
I agree.
I have to send a letter to the Georgia Radio Hall of Fame for their career achievement award to Boortz. I guess the bar for career achievement is pretty low.
It does nothing to further the discussion on immigration by making juvenile remarks which in some circles I'm sure are funny. You wonder why they call you racists? You wonder why Junior and Congress aren't listening?
Boortz & Co should be boycotting the US companies who hire illegal immigrants and give home loans to illegal immigrants. How many raids has ICE made? How many companies have been fined for hiring illegals Yes we as a nation need secure boarders but we don't need to resort to petty name calling, use the power of the purse.
CALLER: How can George Bush make a statement that we cannot send them back? Why is that not possible? We have more power than any other country in this world, and we have more airplanes than any country in this world. Why can't we just load them on planes and keep on loading them until they're back?
I like this part. I'm thinking that the average Boortz caller would freak out at the mention of their taxes going to health care, books or better pay for teachers, diplomatic solutions to foreign policy, or other areas that might better our country as a whole.
But setting up an airline to ship out illegal aliens? Can Do! We got power and planes!
I am not at all surprised at that. This is how many feel about taxes paying to build and house prisoners versus taxes spent for programs that would be of a preventative nature. WNP baby, Wing Nut Priorities.
boortz is borderline asshole/whaco. This man naturally has hate in his heart.
You people need to lighten up. My gosh.
It's true - the thought of a million men, women, and children run down by a small truck is a real knee-slapper.
Who said anything about running people down with a truck? Boortz suggested providing a taco truck to feed them all. The proprietor would make a lot of money.
YEAH!! All you compasionate, critically thinking, well meaning, thoughtful, community minded, proud, ethical, wordly conscious, helpful people HAVE TO CALM THE HECK DOWN!! What's wrong with not caring about people- they are ILLEGAL! Therefore, NO ONE NEEDS TO CARE ABOUT THEIR WELL-BEING!! You people have too much HATE and INTOLERANCE for us good, white-bread, bigoted, racist, homophobic, smearing, hatemongering LEGAL people!! And.. and just because Scooter broke the law and lied to people dose not make him ILLEGAL!! He is.., he's a PATRIOT like Colonel North!!
This issue has nothing to do with immigration. It has everything to do with nefarious politicians trying to legalize the status of 12-50 million scofflaws. Our government has failed us for at least 30 yrs...in protecting our borders.
The lament in support of illegal aliens...you know the one...they're just here doing the jobs Americans won't do...is horsecrap. They're here doing the only jobs they are capable of...just what most people are against...flooding the country with poor, unskilled people.
It's real simple:
1. Enforce the current employment laws.
2. Secure the border...NOW.
3. Deport all illegal aliens. It's a strawman to say that we don't have the ability. We can't deport them today, tomorrow, next month or next year...but we can sure as hell get started.
4. Last and most importantly...in my opinion is...no legalized status for anyone here illegally.
We have an immigration system for those that want to join America legally...and yes...it needs improvement. Our country has always welcomed immigrants...but illegal aliens are a different story...get the hell out now.
I could not have said it any better. Straight and to the point.
"The lament in support of illegal aliens...you know the one...they're just here doing the jobs Americans won't do...is horsecrap. They're here doing the only jobs they are capable of..."
Well, I know a few of those that are doing a MUCH BETTER job than US Citizens. And some of those get better skills with time and are able to start new businesses, just like the rest of us.
I am just trying to say that to generalize is never good. Specially on a complex issue like immigration.
I thought that one of reasons the US was so great was because it would allow "the poor" to come here and prosper... o wait, that must be true only if you came here "legally" (as the first immigrants SURE did), right? There must be no way for an illegal immigrant to prosper.
Yeah, yeah...I've heard all the trite anecdotal stories about the skills of the illegal aliens...he could be a brain surgeon if only given a chance...he's only cutting grass because he can't find the engineering job he's trained for.
The issue is not complicated. We have a system to welcome and allow immigrants...and that is the system that needs overhauled. Once your application is presented it shouldn't take years and thousands of dollars...because of inept government employees and a failed system.
As to illegal aliens...they have no right to be here...for any reason. Employers who hire illegal aliens should be fined or jailed...I don't care which.
Illegals that are caught here should spend a few months in the Maricopa county jail and then afforded the courtesy of a free ride home. Sheriff Arpaio says he has plenty of room.
The situation was not created overnight and it won't be fixed overnight...stepping up the deportation of illegals will not cripple the economy because we can't deport them all at once...but we can sure as hell get started.
Our gutless politicians and government got us to this point with a lot of talk and damn little action...I don't trust them to enact more new laws...to be ignored like the ones in the past.
"They're here doing the only jobs they are capable of...just what most people are against...flooding the country with poor, unskilled people."
Spoken like a truly angry elitist.
More than 50% of illegals entering the country do so with less than a high school education. They are being financially abused by their employers. This is not a racist statement... many of those pouring across our borders are low-skill workers.
So then the following statement is an incorrect generalization.
"They're here doing the only jobs they are capable of...just what most people are against...flooding the country with poor, unskilled people."
Going by what you state. About 40% of them have at least high school, which could very well mean that they are capable of doing better jobs.
Not racist, just elitist.
50%? Isn’t that about the same as our national dropout rate?
Personal expeirience. Frightened people seldom have anything effective to offer in a difficult situation.
This "difficult situation" has been artificially produced by the media noise machine. They are very good at it, as past history has shown.
I'm pretty sure all waves of immigration have been feared. There's some argument that the border makes this one different. I don't buy it. There's a argument about the numbers. Is there any comparison given of populations and percentages though historical imigrations to the United Snakes of Uremia. This would be good to know info. Might put a perspective on the situation.
It can be very surprising to see how fast changing a law can turn a criminal into an honest citizen. I hear loud voices saying we can't do this, these criminals have to stay criminals. What advantage do you see in maintaining this criminal identity. Beyond an easy choice of future abuse targets.
International advise and help might offer solutions that our fear blinds us to. In both countries.
I approve totally of your take on "the law". Laws change. Perhaps we need to change some laws around here: for example, if Walmart continues to hire "illegal aliens", perhaps "the law" should provide citizenship to those hired, and revoke the citizenship/residence of those doing the hiring? When the truck/plane heads off to Mexico with the second load, start up the corporate ladder until this stops.
Meantime, the media-driven fear of Hispanics overwhelming our "culture" is so pervasive, that we seem to allow fewer immigrants than would be appropriate from a neighbor and a friend. A "Christian" nation would allow greater numbers of our neighbors, clean up the delays, and alleviate much of the causation of "wet-back"-ing.
I have an idea. Let's start deportation proceedings, and moreover, let's call it a War on Illegal Immigration. We can pattern it after the great successes of the War on Drugs whereby we fight against something with enormous demand. That should work. Maybe we can enlist Patraeus for this one too.
I'm not sure if Boortz is a racist, but I would agree his comments were insensitive. Now for a dose of common sense on the immigration issue. I don't trust this senate to do what's best for the country on immigration. Where are the impact and feasability studies for absorbing 20-30 million "migrants" into our system. Remember folks, were not talking about engineers and Phd's here. How much does it currently cost our gov't now for the est. 12 million( does anyone really believe this gov't estimate), and what will it cost when they are allowed to bring their spouse, sons, daughters, fathers, and mothers(some actually believe other family members should also be included)? One amendment that was killed in the recent senate immigration debacle stated that criminals SHOULD NOT be excluded from the immigration process! Illegal aliens currently represent 26% of our federal prison population. Should we also allow them to stay when they're finished paying their debt to society? This issue is not going away anytime soon, but the "ram it down their throat" atitude of this administration and congress befuddles me. Here is an original idea. When we catch and deport illegal aliens, why don't we charge the country of their origin a fee for processing and the cost of the deportation? Finally, drop the xenophobic comments for anyone who opposes illegal immigration. It is usually a sign of a weak argument at best.
Why wasn't I hearing anything about immigration 5 years ago? Because the Republicans didn't want to use it as a wedge issue 5 years ago. Now the thinly disguised racists have crawled out from under their rocks to demand something be done about these"invaders" ever since the perrenially ideologically bankrupt Republican organized crime syndicate has alienated everyone except the the most hateful and moronic of their base.
Let me tell you something stupid, I think you know who I'm talking to, maybe you are too stupid but here it goes anyway. If all you have to do is quake and shiver about some Mexicans who have come here to take a nasty job that by rights you should be doing. I really mean that, by rights and the grace of God you should be doing those nasty jobs, because you aren't qualified to do anything else, then you got more serious problems than the"invasion". You have serious mental pathologies that you should get some help for.
Personally I'm sick of you angry little whiteboys who spend day and night worrying about mexicans and gays, and liberals and whatever other boogeymen you have in your closet. Look it isn't our fault that you and Chris Matthews have erotic stirrings whenever you see a square jawed white man in a three piece suit or uniform, smell Aqua Velva, or English Leather.
Your self loathing is starting to rub off because I and many others are starting to loathe you too.
Hehe - very poignant Mossy - Personally I think a lot of the people screaming about the immigration situation are hiding behind the "law" to justify their bigoted attitudes.
Bull. Five years ago we were still dealing with the aftermath of 9/11 and hoping that the President was serious about improving national security. Well, he isn't. He's in bed with big business and Mexican interests.
We screamed about immigration in 1986 and those laws were never enforced. Same for 1996. Same for 2006. WHY SHOULD WE BELIEVE that any new legislation will be enforced? This is all a political ploy to get votes. Meanwhile, terrorists have easy access to get into the country and carry out plans to kill us. They don't care if you are Left or Right, Rep or Dem, etc. They want to kill all of us: straight, gay, tall, short, fat, thin, smart, dumb. THIS is why we need border security.
Can ANYONE on this board explain why building a border fence is a bad idea? I've yet to hear a rational reason not to.
Building walls has never stopped the human will. Hadrian’s wall couldn’t stop it. The Berlin wall couldn’t stop it. The Great Wall couldn’t stop it. This is a shrinking globe with shrinking resources, we must as a people, find ways to live together like good neighbors or we’ll kill ourselves vying for nothing worth having.
Build a 50 foot wall, and I'll find you a 51 foot ladder.
Neal "The JackA$$" Boortz strikes again. I'm all for legal immigration, but the way the system is set up now f***ed. My wife and I went through it and the chips are stacked way against unless you have lots of money, in which case it would be a cake walk.
I can understand both sides of the issue, but the xenophobes scare me. Wasn't there the same sort of anger when Blacks were set free and then when the Irish came and the italian and so on and so forth. The process for the ancestors of many of the folks now screaming the loudest wasn't nearly as stacked against them, all they had to do was hop on a ship. If I'm wrong, please feel free to enlighten me.
No, you've got it right. The idea that you had to register and pay a fee to come here began in the 1950's under Eisenhower. Our immigration mix has always been mostly middle class to poor, for some reason our current xenophobes are only worried about hispanic poor labor entering the country. Something to do with they will most likely vote for democrats or something like that.
Been through the process myself, it is a joke. A costly one at that. But I do have a funny story to tell! When my wife finally got her citizenship, Trent Lott had beat Clinton by 24 hours with a welcome letter. In fact, the letter was a money grubbing scheme asking her to join an "elite" group of hispanic republican women. For $5,000 a year she could be part of this elite team of hundreds of hispanic american immigrants who would get the priveledge of meeting once a year (at her expense) to hear Trent extoll the virtues of republicanism on hispanic society. Money is the bottom line to republican stand on immigration, that's the lesson I saw first hand!
I like how their solution to this issue is to round everyone up, and ship them out, and to build a fence. The cost of a fence to close off the entire border would be freakin' astronomical, and of course we can't raise taxes to pay for it, so where does the money come from to build such a fence, that isn't going to keep anyone out anyway. People will go over it, under it, and or around it, and still keep getting in. Will it stem the flow? Maybe, but probably not.
The argument that people use as well that all of these people coming here aren't qualified to do any other job than manual labor is a bunch o' BS as well. I've heard several stories where highly educated individuals come here from Mexico, and can't find work in their annoited field, because they are illegal, but there were no jobs in Mexico, so they are stuck picking crops, or building houses, which are good honest jobs as well, and there is nothing wrong with having people here to do those jobs. I do believe that most Americans will not do those jobs, or don't want to them. Listening to stories about different farming operations in Northern California, there were several large scale farmers who said that they decided not to hire illegals, and they put out the call, and what happened? Hardly anyone came, and they had to go back and hire illegal aliens, and or migrant workers because no gringos would do the work.
If we enforced the laws on the books already, and charged corporations who hire illegal alies up the ying yang, that might stop them from coming here. Why? No work, they won't come. Right now, jobs are plentiful for them and this is why they come here, and also maybe to look for a better life for themselves and their families. I do think that the vast majority of these folks are good, decent, honest, and hard working. Of course there are going to be some bad folks who come across, that's just human nature. But by far, these folks enhance our society, and expand the melting pot that is the USA. I enjoy walking down the street and hearing folks speak Spanish. I like that they bring bits and pieces of their culture with them so that I too can experience it myself. It's what has made America great in the past, and continues to make America great now. Everytime I hear someone yelling and screaming about illegal immigrants, I think of how just about every sector of ethnic folks who moved to the US at one time or another were decried as starting the downfall of the US (Irish, Italians, Germans, and so on), and guess what? It didn't happen, it's not going to happen now.
You forgot to mention the fence is only for the southern border where the poor colored people are flowing in. There appears zero concern for the poor white and asian illegal immigrants who flow freely across the canadian border. I would think poor is poor, but the focus doesn't smell right, does it?
Well said, I agree completely.
I know a few of those well prepared people you mention. They could not get a good job in Mexico as an engineer and so they have to come here and start from zero. But they come willing to work their butt off and to provide for their families.
What I think needs to be done is educate them and be a little bit more restrictive with the benefits given to them. Some people take advantage of the system because the system just gives a lot away for free. Just to mention an example, some people will go to the emergency room for everything; any illness. And because they get help from the government, they don't see and understand (some don't even care) the burden they put into the rest of the taxpayers.
I’d get out and pick if it paid a living wage. There are plenty of salt of the earth people willing to do what they have to, that is, if they can earn enough at it. I mean, is construction work a job Americans won’t do? It’s hard work, not glamorous but when it pays Americans will do it. Yet, we see many undocumented labor crews building houses.
My point is that the powers that be don’t want us to be able to afford to do the labor undocumented workers will perform. Instead, employers of undocumented workers would rather us just be angry with Mexicans.
I like how their solution to this issue is to round everyone up, and ship them out, and to build a fence.
WHO is saying to round them up and ship them out? Most Americans want illegals to get in line and do it right.
The cost of a fence to close off the entire border would be freakin' astronomical, and of course we can't raise taxes to pay for it, so where does the money come from to build such a fence, that isn't going to keep anyone out anyway.
The fence has been funded in every bill that has been proposed. Something like $1.2B was allocated in the 2006 bill. The funds are already there!
As to fences not working... they are not foolproof, but they can drastically stem the tide. There are so many open areas that allow anyone to cross. A proper fence (one that is complete) will stop the vast majority of those trying to cross, and will make it easier for Border Patrol to do their job.
If fences don't work there sure are lots of farmers around the country that have wasted lots of time and money building them.
A lot of people have a lot of opinions about the Mexican immigrants; I think people who cross our borders and settle here in defiance of our immigration laws should be treated like criminals. I, personally, have had family who has not even been able to visit, much less come to live due to the current laws.
I agree with Graydogs' post earlier in that when people break the law and get ahead of honest law-abiding people, they should be called criminals, and they should have consequences, no matter if their from Mexico, Morocco, Mongolia, or Mars. To muddy up the fact that there needs to be prosecution because of motivation is just distraction. Yes, you should prosecute the enablers (those who employ illegal immigrants), but you also need to punish the people who perform the act; they are at least as guilty as those who employ them (after all, they chose to break the law, and knowingly).
Motivation should be a factor in determining punishment, not prosecution. This is why our legal system has judges and lawyers. A crime has been committed, but sentencing can be adjusted for specific cases. This does not obviate the need to catch and arrest those committing the wrongdoing, but it may indicate a lighter (or suspended) sentence.
As far as "fear" of the hispanic community, I think that is a relevant fear. I won't pretend that people should feel totally at ease with foreign Hispanic influence. In short order, American society has totally changed with regards to Hispanic influence, compared with any and every other culture that has emigrated to the states. Name any other immigrant group who has language concessions that the Hispanic group does. Is this a bad thing? Not necessarily. However, it is my belief that if assimilating into a larger group or culture, you should make the effort to step up to that culture, not force them to cater to you. This means, at least, attempting to speak the language and not forcing the larger to translate everything for the smaller. It is at least inconveniencing, if not outright insulting.
And part of the fear is of being supplanted by the Hispanic worker who seems to be far more prevalent in the low-paying, entry-level jobs which unskilled Americans used to be able to take. In personal experience for myself and my girlfriend, Hispanic employees form cliques to exclude those who don't speak Spanish, and before anyone cries "Turnabout is Fair Play," is it? Would we condemn English-speaking employees for doing the same? Whether it happens or not is not the issue, but the correctness of it is. It is not correct, and yet it happens despite efforts to include or assimilate workers.
My personal experience with a Hispanic co-worker was that she was lazy and self-serving and, when threatened with termination, she played the race card to get herself out of trouble, a fact that she happily trumpeted to anyone who could hear her. Do I think all Hispanics are like that? No, of course not. I went to school in New Mexico, and I met a lot of good, inspiring, hard-working Hispanic people who did their job and helped me to do mine. But the fact is, this is a tool that some Hispanics can and have used. Again, I can hear the "Turnabout!" argument, but it is, in this case, false as well. Hispanics (or any minority) using this trick to leverage their employer is no different from an employer keeping a girl because she's white and thus "obviously" a good hire.
The list goes on about concessions to Hispanic people in American culture. Including projections of census data, it's not hard to imagine a (near) future where Hispanic people are the plurality and Whites a minority, and the fear of being treated as a minority is obviously quite ingrained because of what the White people have historically done to minorities in terms of oppression and repression (real or perceived).
So, as I pack up my soap-box, Boortz made a silly statement that alluded to profit rather than loss, and while some may regard it as racist, would it made as much sense (or more sense) if he said "Pizza trucks" or "Chow Mein Trucks?" He could've said "Lunch Trucks," but he used "tacos" for emphasis. Did he intend it as racist? I don't think he did, but rather as comedic emphasis. Meh.
"Name any other immigrant group who has language concessions that the Hispanic group does."
All of them. It's based on demographics. My ATM gives 8 different language options, 3 are variations of oriental culture - vietnamese, chinese and philippean. You can ask for votor information in several different languages, many businesses I call into give you different language options on their automated services, just to name a few.
Don't be disingenuous Snoopy; I may appreciate that you have Filipino in your area, but the fact is I can go just about anywhere in America (at least along the Eastern Seaboard and Southwest) and have every option in an automated menu in Spanish. I don't know of any other ethnic group, other than African-American, that has a "heritage month" (and why is the Hispanic Heritage month longer than Black History Month), I don't know any other ethnic group that has national linguistic support.
Heck, I had to fight in my college for languages other than Spanish to be addressed in an ESL course, despite the fact that there were as many students from Eastern Europe as there were Hispanics and not to mention the Asians in class as well.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong, necessarily, but what I am saying is that the fear is founded and that precedent for preferential concessions clearly lies with the Hispanic culture, whether it be for acceptance or amnesty.
For what it's worth, like I said, I'm all for setting the bar at the same level for the boatloads of immigrants from Asia, walk-across from Canada, et al. Either we give the same treatment to all or to none at all. Either we have our laws restricting immigrants and prosecute those who break them as we would any other criminal, or we have borders that are open and welcoming.
I don't think I'm being disengenious with that remark. But let me put it to you another way:
One of the great pleasures I derive from my job is the fact that I have the priveledge of going to different countries to work with overseas factories. I can speak spanish, german and english; with those three languages under my belt I have found it rather rare when I couldn't find someone in the city that I could converse with and get whatever help I need.
I have also been quite amused that irregardless of what country I've been in I have always run into at least one american guest that will always throw fits because the hotel, or restaraunt or whatever does not have someone on hand who can readily serve him in english.
Now, what am I saying? What I am pointing out is that America seems to be the only country I know of that actively goes out of their way to promote a one language culture. It's quite arrogant in my opinion. Other countries may have all their menu's printed in one language, but what the America crowd doesn't get is that these same countries have dealt with several languages all their lives. They don't need to worry about what language their menu choice is printed in because there is always someone near that they can get help from.
As long as we enforce a one language policy we can either accept that we will have to provide alternative methods of communication or risk alienating large segments of the population be it hispanic, asian, german, italian or whatever other foreign influence lives here.
And here's a list of government recognized heritage months, days etc:
Special days recognized by Presidential Proclamation- Martin Luther King Federal Holiday (Third Monday in January)
- Greek Independence Day (March 25)
- Armenian Remembrance Day (April 24)
- National Day of Prayer (First Thursday in May)
- German-American Day (October 6)
Special weeks recognized by Presidential Proclamation- Minority Enterprise Development Week (September)
- National Historically Black Colleges and Universities Week (September)
Special months recognized by Presidential ProclamationExcellent! I stand corrected. Please excuse me while I slap my forehead in shame ^_^
Don't slap too hard! But I think we seem to be roughly on the same page, to both of our surprise! ;)
This is a lame argument based on emotions, not facts.
Hundreds of thousands of illegal immigrants, about 50% from Mexico, are pouring over the southern border. This is NOT the case at the Canadian border.
The economies of border towns in CA, AZ, NM and TX are being severely and negatively impacted by illegal visitors. Hospitals are closing or are bankrupt, schools are overcrowded. This is NOT the case at the Canadian border.
Day laborers and illegals are driving down construction, landscaping, food services and custodial wages in southern regions. This is NOT the case at the Canadian border.
YES, we should increase our northern border security, especially if a guy with T.B. can cross the border at will. But the Southern border is exponentially worse than the northern border.
75% of illegals are from Latin American countries, 25% from Europe/Asia. The problem primarily comes from the south.
All of the bickering going on here seems to have moved the discussion away from the real topic--that Boorz is a obviously a racist. He can be opposed to illegals all he likes, but he does nothing for the quality of the discussion by lowering the bar. What or whom should HE speak for?? Honestly, it's like Ann Coulter has been sort of quiet lately, so we have to have the void filled with this fool's remarks!!
Boortiz is an embarrassment.
Dear Mr. Racist Neal Boortz,
When you're done cruising your family reunions for dates, please visit us in Califas for your butt-kicking. It'll be a pleasure.

Call Boortz up on his show and ask him "why he thought it was all right for him to hire illegals to work on his lawn?" when he lived on Brannon Hall Dr. a few years ago. He was bragging one day,on his show about how "HIS" Brown Buddies do such a fantastic job in his yard,at his house on the Chattahoochee River! He chimed in that he wished that Americans had the resolve and work-ethic to work as hard as his illegals did!
Now so that he can get a rise out of his audience he chooses to defame them! So Boortz is really a Equal-Opportunity Bigot. I wonder what he says about Royal behind his back!
If you think about it the pilgrims were illegal aliens that came ashore and made themselves at home on someone else's land without permission...hmmmm.
lame...
Don't take something from 400 years ago and try to make it fit today. lt doesn't work. Otherwise you'd have to start hating germans for their nazi ways, white people for slavery, catholics for the crusades, chinese for water torture, and muslims for beheadings. (oh wait... they haven't evolved yet).
Darwinism. Survival of the fittest. Wars are won and lost, civilizations change. This wave of immigration is an attempt to break laws and cut in line.
Not the same as your argument.
Darwin’s theory was natural selection, not survival of the fittest.
In other words, species whose evolutionary traits best fit the particular environment were selected, by the environment to thrive.
Species do not conquer the environment, ever.
Speaking of taking things from 400 hundred years ago and making it fit today and since you brought up Darwin, I would like to introduce you the principle of uniform continuity.
If a physical process is the same today as it was yesterday, than the physical process was the same at the beginning of the universe.
