On the September 28 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio program, Rush Limbaugh defended his September 26 statement in which he characterized service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq as "phony soldiers," asserting that he had been taken out of context and that he was referring to just one "phony soldier," Jesse MacBeth, who pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs for falsely claiming to be an injured Iraq war veteran. However, as the blog Crooks and Liars noted, in the same broadcast, Limbaugh expanded the group of "phony soldiers" to include Vietnam veteran Rep. John P. Murtha (D-PA) and Pvt. Scott Thomas Beauchamp, who is currently serving in Iraq. In asserting that he was originally "talking about a genuine phony soldier," Limbaugh went on to state: "And by the way, Jesse MacBeth's not the only one. How about this guy Scott Thomas who was writing fraudulent, phony things in The New Republic about atrocities he saw that never happened? How about Jack Murtha blanketly accepting the notion that Marines at Haditha engaged in wanton murder of innocent children and civilians?"
According to Murtha's biography on his congressional website, Murtha joined the Marines in 1952 and volunteered for service in Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star and two Purple Hearts.

You make the mess. They drive in, they shoot things up, create all kinds of mess, get in the convertible, head back down the road, and it's left to people like me to clean up the mess that they make. And they make messes every day, over and over and over again.

I wonder if Republicans who showed so much outrage towards MoveOn yesterday will hold Rush Limbaugh to the same standard. And I wouldn't hold your breath.
LIMBAUGH: You shouldn't hold your breath because there's no standard to hold me to, in the sense that you're -- I never said what you think I said, Congressman Pallone, Congresswoman [Jan] Schakowsky [D-IL], Sen. [John] Kerry [D-MA], or any of the rest of you in the drive-by media. I was talking about a genuine phony soldier. And by the way, Jesse MacBeth's not the only one. WASHINGTON (AP) — A federal judge refused Friday to dismiss a defamation case against Rep. John P. Murtha and ordered the Pennsylvania Democrat to give a sworn deposition in the case.
A Marine Corps sergeant is suing the 16-term congressman for alleging "cold-blooded murder and war crimes" by unnamed soldiers in connection with the deaths of Iraqi civilians in the town of Haditha.
The deaths became known in May 2006 when Murtha, who opposes the Iraq war, said at a Capitol Hill news conference that a Pentagon war crimes investigation will show Marines killed dozens of innocent Iraqi civilians in the town in 2005.
Murtha's office declined to comment on the ruling. He has said his intention was to draw attention to the pressure put on troops in Iraq and to cover-up the incident.

Charges have been dismissed against four of the eight Marines who were initially charged with murder or failure to investigate the deaths in Haditha. A battalion commander has been recommended for a court-martial; a final decision is pending.
The investigating officer overseeing the Haditha case is expected to recommend soon whether Wuterich should stand trial. Wuterich, 27, of Meriden, Conn., is accused of unpremeditated murder in 17 of the killings.

I served proudly in a war I didn't believe in with John Murtha. -Vietnam War-
John Murtha :
Murtha left Washington and Jefferson College in 1952 to join the Marine Corps and was awarded the American Spirit Honor Medal for displaying outstanding leadership qualities during training.
Murtha rose through the ranks to become a drill instructor at Parris Island and was selected for Officer Candidate School at Quantico, Virginia. Murtha was then assigned to the Second Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
Murtha remained in the Marine Corps Reserves, and ran a small business, Johnstown Minute Car Wash. He also attended the University of Pittsburgh on the G.I. Bill, and received a degree in economics. Murtha later took graduate courses from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Murtha married his wife Joyce on 10 June 1955. They have three children and live in Johnstown.
In 1959, Murtha, then a captain, took command of the 34th Special Infantry Company, Marine Corps Reserves, in Johnstown. He remained in the Reserves after his discharge from active duty until he volunteered for service in the Vietnam War, serving from 1966 to 1967, serving as a battalion staff officer (S-2 Intelligence Section), receiving the Bronze Star with Valor device, two Purple Hearts and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. He retired from the Reserves as a colonel in 1990, receiving the Navy Distinguished Service Medal. -End-

What you are taking as original,the transcript that Limbaugh presented the day after is in fact altered and Limpchickenhawk suckered you by leaving out the original statement about "Phony Soldiers". he clearly was refering to any soldier who happens to disagree with this war. It is typical of a person with the character of Limbaugh. He deflects from the truth. I have listened to both transcripts the original and the one presented by Limbaugh the next day. He is leaving out very relevant information to cover his fat butt. If you are truly an oldmarine and I don't doubt that you are you should have enough character to not accept this type of lying by ommision behaviour that Limbaugh is engaging in. Limbaugh does not bring up Mr McBeth until after his original statement. We deployed 2500 Marines in the middle of a civil war with some vague idea that the Lebanese would just wet themselves and lay their arms down. Orders to stay put in the Embasy Circle, surrounded by hotels with a deadly crossfire, and angle on every Marine position. No permission to create a "fire free perimeter" for force protection, and no cement barriers installed in front of the embassy.

I really can't complain about my representatives votes on Iraq. They may have slipped one by, but one of the vetrans groups mentioned today rated all three at A-. They still hear from me. Otherwise, I signed the Draft Gore petition. If I get the chance I'm inclined to vote for him.

What moved you to make these ads and moved you to make them now?

I thought Limbaugh was talking about the story of Jesse MacBeth, a fake "soldier" who never made it out of boot camp, yet was utilized by the anti- war left as a "veteran" who agreed with Iraq opponents.
I have to laugh at some of the comments that I see here. What I find amusing, funny, etc. is that so many supposed intelligent individuals just can't wait to jump on a bandwagon to condemn Rush Limbaugh, never having heard his comments first-hand. Are those of you who jump on such bandwagons, the very same people who decry the lack of civility in political discourse? Too funny.....if you are, then I'd suggest that you either stand before a full length mirror next time you begin to decry the mean spirited nature of political discourse (since it is YOU who are the guilty parties).
As for referring to those who listen to Rush as "sycophantic imbeciles".... well, I will tell you that I am impressed with your ability to refer to a dictionary and to find the $.25 language that allows you to feel better about your own, exceptionally biased point of view.

When and where did Limbaugh serve in combat that he should be such and expert on real vs. phony soldiers? What does he have to say about the other high ranking officers who advocate withdrawal and who have been a part of this war?
When it comes to authenticity, Rushie-boy has some serious problems.
I think any of us with life experience knows tough talking blowhards are the biggest cowardly wimps around. If Rush, Sean, BillO, Ann the Witch Queen or any of the other chicken hawks were to enter The Twilight Zone right now and find themselves in a military uniform in the middle of war torn Iraq, they would literally piss in their pants and start crying for their mommy. Ever wonder what happened in their lives to become such loud mouth jerk offs. Sleep well cowards.
Limbaugh shouldn't have referred to Murtha as a "phony soldier" for one reason: because it gave certain media, such as MMFA, all the ammunition it needed to spend more wasted time vilifying him.
What Limbaugh should have said was that Murtha was a DISGRACEFUL former soldier. That way, he would not have been referring to the period where Murtha was on active duty and it would refer to Murtha's honor, and not whether or not he was really a soldier.
Some media outlets have trouble making that distinction on their own so Rush should have been more careful by accounting for their inability to make necessary leaps.
But that being said, Murtha accused certain Iraq vets of committing crimes that they were acquitted of... how honorable is that? Rush might not have been spot-on in your eyes, but he certainly wasn't erroneous or way out in left field. He just stated things in a way that allowed you to do what ALL media outlets desperate for new news each day would have done and that's nitpick.
So the Chickenhawk who refused to serve during Vietnam because of an anal cyst thinks he can tell us who the phony soldiers are? Then again hypocrisy from Rush Limbaugh is not new. He complains about welfare cheats but was on welfare near the start of his career. He complains about drug addicts but was addicted to pain killers. He praises Ronald Reagan but wasn't registered to vote at the time Reagan was elected President.
I think you should ask those soliders on the battlefront if they want to have more or less Rush radio.
Unfortunatly you know very well that it will never be put to a vote as you will hear that they want the full 3 hours , not the one hour currently provided.
Speaking of those soliders they know as does anyone that pays any attention at all what Rush was talking about. Your not going to get away with making people believe that all of a sudden Rush hates the troops. Sorry but the man has a record that people can see. This isnt the 60's or the 70's. No longer can the three networks or a website gin up a story , spin it around untill it conforms to what they want and they put it out as gospel. Unfortunatly there is a large segment of the population that has stopped thinking for themselves and waits everyday to be spoonfed the drivel that is purported to be the news. Fortunatly however there are still enough of us that have not succumbed to BDS and still think for themselves.
It will be interesting to see how long you can spin this untill people just stop listening to you. I suppose if you had the following that Rush has built up (by telling the truth BTW)(interspersed with humor which sadly can not be appreciated on the left because of BDS) you might have a chance to make people believe, but even with the MSM, the house and senate, and most radio(NPR for example) you can't get people to believe you.
Here is a suggestion, stop trying to be something you are not, spell out exactly what you believe in and let the chips fall where they may. oops then you would have no reason for existance as no one would be listening then.
