Olbermann named American Spectator's Tyrrell "Worst Person" runner-up for saying Limbaugh apologized

During the October 4 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named American Spectator founder and editor-in-chief R. Emmett Tyrrell Jr. the "runner-up" in his "Worst Person in the World" segment for, as Media Matters for America documented, asserting that Rush Limbaugh "already apologized" for his September 26 "phony soldiers" comments "in the event that he offended anyone." As Media Matters noted, while Limbaugh apologized "to all of the members of the United States military, both in uniform and out, active duty and retired, for Media Matters for America," he has not apologized for characterizing service members who advocate U.S. withdrawal from Iraq as "phony soldiers."

Olbermann said that "Emmett Tyrrell Jr., the editor-in-chief of the lunatic fringe publication American Spectator ... visited the Fox News whorehouse to defend comedian Rush Limbaugh in the 'phony soldier' cover-up, insisting that Limbaugh's, quote, 'already apologized in the event he offended anyone.' " Olbermann continued: "No, what Limbaugh said was, 'Since you won't get an apology from Media Matters for America ... I want to apologize to you for them. ... I apologize to you on their behalf since they won't.' Now, to be fair, if Limbaugh had to apologize every time he made a mistake or uttered a horrific insult, he would have to be on the air 24 hours a day."

From the October 4 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: The runner-up tonight: Emmett Tyrrell Jr., the editor-in-chief of the lunatic fringe publication American Spectator, who visited the Fox News whorehouse to defend comedian Rush Limbaugh in the "phony soldiers" cover-up, insisting that Limbaugh's, quote, "already apologized in the event he offended anyone." No, what Limbaugh said was, "Since you won't get an apology from Media Matters for America ... I want to apologize to you for them. ... I apologize to you on their behalf since they won't." Now, to be fair, if Limbaugh had to apologize every time he made a mistake or uttered a horrific insult, he'd have to be on the air 24 hours a day. He'd probably have to take stimulants or -- oh, sorry.

Well of course Brock would want to feature American Spectator's Emmett Tyrrell Jr as Keith's recipient of the WPITW Award.

It's called sticking it to his old employer ;-)

I just don't know how this country can go on till Rush apologizes. Did MoveOn.Org apologize? Well I just don't see how this country can go on till they do.

MoveOn: no apology required! We told the truth about a scumbag's numerous past lies fitting the pattern of the lie he had advertied he would tell to Congress. When (Gen.)BetrayUs was moving up the command, he lied to Congress and the nation in 2003, in 2004, and in 2005. I personally suspect he lied in 2006, but do not have the data to hand to make that new assertion. Now he has lied in 2007. With a pattern of that length, and that strength, calling him a liar is almost a prerequisite to discussing whatever snakeoil he now has to sell.

When it comes to the character of guests and sources, no one has higher standards than Fox News:

          Convicted felon G. Gordon Liddy.

Tax dodger and adulterer Dick Morris (also a political turncoat, like Brock)

          Alleged money launderer Tom DeLay

Jeter, Rush doesn't have to apologize yet. Although I secured the Surrender of the Dittoheads last night, I have handicapped the Rush Army , giving them until Sunday Midnight to avoid  humiliating defeat.

Maybe you can help them out, you seem like a sharp lad. This item's been here more than a week, and as far as I know, not one of them has been able to lay a foundation for their case.

          Beach,

I don't think Rush needs to apologize. Interpretations to his remarks are clearly split depending on one's side of the fence. Quite frankly I would have preferred to pass over this silly controversy without comment, but now 375 threads later here we still are.

I think Rush just beat out Imus & Billy-Boy.

There's so many more important topics out there BUT thanks to all the players involved, that won't shut up about it, we continue to be bombarded by this foolishness. And having the Congress join in was just beyond ridiculous not to mention a colossal waste of time.

May I add here that the uproar over MoveOn.Org was also stupid.

          Cleveland is stupid.

The Red Sox are stupid. The Angels are really stupid.

Jeter,I will not dignify your smear of the Angels with a response, good sir.Until you apologize.

In and of itself, this whole incident is no more stoopid than anything Rush says on a daily basis. I just decided to have fun with it.What it did demonstrate, is how gullible and faithful the Dittohead audience is.And how much of their understanding of these silly items is filtered through Rush homself.

As a reasonable conservative, you must enjoy the posts by the visitors who come here whenever there's some extra publicity, Jeter. I mean that as, you're secure enough to know that you're in a different group, and others know that.

The part of this issue I've been amusing myself with is this; the whole premise of Rush, and his fans, is that the "phony soldier" remark was about a group of anti-war frauds who have been displayed by the media as representative of the troops.

For more than a week, several other posters , and I, have been asking for any examples of these. Zilch. It's completely made-up BS that Rush has conned his monkeys into believing, and they're using it as a basis to post here.

That's funny. And it's also the death blow to Rush's army, as the hour of their disgraced surrender draws near.

(still more than 48 hours, I hope they're working away) ;0)

        That's good, Snoop. My favorite part- apparently the Vet cut the cord, lowering the flags to ground level, but Cavuto seems to think he climbed the flagpole, resulting in this (paraphrased) exchange;

Cavuto: How did you get up there?

        Vet: I drove my car.

        Snoopy,

Of course he shouldn't have broken the law, but you left out that the Mexican flag was being flown above the American flag in violation of U.S. Code.

        The following is from ushistory.org

        The laws relating to the flag of the United States of America are found in detail in the United States Code. Title 4, Chapter 1 pertains to the flag;

        4. When flags of States, cities, or localities, or pennants of societies are flown on the same halyard with the flag of the United States, the latter should always be at the peak. When the flags are flown from adjacent staffs, the flag of the United States should be hoisted first and lowered last. No such flag or pennant may be placed above the flag of the United States or to the right of the flag of the United States (the viewer's left). When the flag is half-masted, both flags are half-masted, with the US flag at the mid-point and the other flag below.

But you missed the real point. What's so difficult about just calling the restaraunt and telling them that they are flying the flag wrong? Instead fox manufactures fake outrage, gets a willing sucker to march off half cocked with a knife and a threat, and they film it for their frothing masses.

I agree, Keith should get a pass on almost anything.

But to pursue the "whorehouse" matter a bit further.

No question, because of the history of what I might gingerly call oppressive patriarchal hegemony, it would probably be better had Keith avoided the word "whorehouse," even with Fox Noise, which nonetheless gives a whole new layer of meaning to the term.

But how about we simply expand out to describe the complete context over at Fox as follows:

O'Reilly, Hannity, Cavuto, Gibson, et al regularly "pimp" for wingnuts who are more than willing to ideologically "prostitute" themselves on Fox.

This way we have an equal opportunity gender dis.
