CNN's Beck on Iranian threat: "You don't have to take my word for it. Just watch any episode of Law & Order"

On the October 8 edition of his CNN Headline News show, Glenn Beck began a segment on Iran by asserting, "War with Iran is no longer a question of 'if,' I believe it's a question of 'when.' " Beck went on to state: "Iran has long been the puppet master in the Middle East. You don't have to take my word for it. Just watch any episode of Law & Order. Use the thinking, you know, that helps them solve all the tough cases. Iran has the means, the motive, and the opportunity to try and destroy our American way of life by controlling the Middle East."

Beck continued: "Since 1979, they have been orchestrating a coalition to wipe us off the face of the Earth and establish their psychotic extremist regime. It is time for us to stop sending diplomats to reason with warrior chess players." He added, "The clock is ticking. The only way to avoid war is to demand that the rest of the world impose harsh, consistent, and unwavering sanctions. Nothing else, other than all-out war -- and that's a very bad thing -- nothing else will stop Iran's march towards domination of the West and the rest of the world." Beck also stated, "We went into Iraq because at the time everybody, even [Sen.] Ted Kennedy [D-MA] -- yes, believe it or not -- thought Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. I told you at the time war with Iraq has been a prelude to an eventual war with Iran. I told you that before we went into Iraq. Now we have no longer any other options but to go into Iran."

He concluded: "If you don't want war -- and count me in on that -- those on the left must join those, like me, on the right and demand sanctions. I'd love for that to happen. But you know, since I don't live in the Technicolor world of the movies, because I've been showing this movie for the last five years, I know how it ends."

As Media Matters for America documented, on the April 3 edition of his television show, Beck asserted that the war in Iraq "was never about Saddam Hussein or weapons of mass destruction. I mean, that was a bonus. It was always about getting to Iran, the head of the snake and the center of evil in the modern world." On the July 24, 2006, edition of his show, Beck claimed, "We went into Iraq three years ago to prevent World War III ... to prevent the evil Iranian ideology from spreading across the region."

From the October 8 edition of CNN Headline News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: War with Iran is no longer a question of "if," I believe it's a question of "when." And here's how I got there.

For those of you who haven't been paying attention to this stupid little show for 18 months or five years that I've been on national radio saying this, let me run through my holy trinity of truths about Iran, because nobody else on TV or radio has the balls to do it. And here it is.

We have got to start calling evil by its name. Iran and their terrorist regime are not making threats. They are making promises. And, last but not least, in the Middle East Iran is the head of the snake. I have been ringing this bell for the last five years, because the simple truth is Iran is dangerous.

Our politicians will not tell us the truth on this. The media is ignoring the truth, or they don't understand it. And the United Nations couldn't recognize the truth if it was, you know, shaped like giant bags of money.

We went into Iraq because at the time everybody, even Ted Kennedy -- yes, believe it or not -- thought Saddam Hussein had weapons of mass destruction. I told you at the time war with Iraq has been a prelude to an eventual war with Iran. I told you that before we went into Iraq. Now we have no longer any other options but to go into Iran.

Iran has long been the puppet master in the Middle East. You don't have to take my word for it. Just watch any episode of Law & Order. Use the thinking, you know, that helps them solve all the tough cases. Iran has the means, the motive, and the opportunity to try and destroy our American way of life by controlling the Middle East.

Since 1979, they have been orchestrating a coalition to wipe us off the face of the Earth and establish their psychotic extremist regime. It is time for us to stop sending diplomats to reason with warrior chess players.

So tonight, here's what you need to know. It is time for the left and the right to unite against our common enemy. The clock is ticking. The only way to avoid war is to demand that the rest of the world impose harsh, consistent, and unwavering sanctions. Nothing else, other than all-out war -- and that's a very bad thing -- nothing else will stop Iran's march towards domination of the West and the rest of the world.

If you don't want war -- and count me in on that -- those on the left must join those, like me, on the right and demand sanctions. I'd love for that to happen. But you know, since I don't live in the Technicolor world of the movies, because I've been showing this movie for the last five years, I know how it ends.

If these crummy right-wing bobbleheads be willing to give a little history leason when speaking of Iran; circa 1979 they would have to include the fact that WE (Our oh so perfect government) created the atmosphere that we see today!

Hell, you could go all the way back to 1953 for when we stuck our nose in the Middle East for the first time.......

WE created this mess (Dems and Reps) are as culpable.

All BushCo and the corporate run propaganda media have done was take the flames already there and added several gallons of gas to it.....

Then acted shocked when the gas began to explode and now seem to want to add even more gas like the good little pyros they are

All done in the name of democracy......

        Thanks for nothing!

And who from the left isn't saying we should sanction Iran on the basis of their nuclear program? There isn't anyone saying don't sanction Iran. Ah Glenn, catch your breath, and come up the world of reality. Iran has never said that they want the destruction of the US, you're equating Israel with the US now?

Iran's leaders know, for a fact, that if they did actually build a nuclear weapon, and were actually dumb enough to use their one shot on say, Israel, they are not completely stupid and would know that they had just assured their own destruction.

Now, the leaders of Iran might be rabble rousers, and try to appeal to their fundamentalist base, but are they dumb enough to lob a nuclear weapon into Israel (if they even had one)? I don't even think they would come close to this. Again, self assured destruction of their entire country, not to mention the middle east in general.

All this talk of Iran trying to come and get us is pure hogwash.

Even our craven leaders are starting to use the term "nuclear capability" instead of nuclear weapons in Iran.  Iran doesn't want to HAVE the bomb.  It would be a foreign policy disaster for them and they know it.  They want (like so many of their neighbors) to have the capability, or make their enemies think they could build one in a short time. By turning our backs on all our nuclear disarmament treaties, the USA is accelerating the problem.

Oh Glenn, are we cross? Uh what does Law and Order have to do with...Never mind. There's no getting to the bottom of Glenn Beck's impenetrable logic.

Let's Go to War in Iran: A Play in Two Minutes

Joe Liberal: I forget what threat does Iran pose to...well anyone?

Glenn: They might have nuclear weapons.

Joe Liberal: So what? We have more of them. And we remain the only nation on Earth to have ever used nuclear weapons in an actual war. Do Hiroshima and Nagasaki ring any bells? Who are we to say which nations can have nuclear weapons and which ones can't?

Glenn: The President of Iran is a jerk.

Joe Liberal: So what? The US would be in real trouble if other nations attacked us every time we elected a jerk. Besides the President of Iran is not even the most powerful man in Iran. Look up Iran in the encyclopedia...well Wikipedia is more your speed, Glenn. There are layers of officials above the president. The President of Iran can't even wipe his own ass without approval from the other branches of government. Imagine that a president with oversight.

Glenn: The President of Iran has been saying nasty things about Israel.

Joe Liberal: Have you heard about the Six Day War? Israel took on something like three armies by themselves, I think they can handle themselves.

Glenn: You don't get it, he's a really evil jerk.

Joe Liberal: Yes, but he's an elected jerk. And historically no President of Iran has ever been re-elected to more than two five year terms. Also we can't go around pushing the nations of the Middle East to adopt democracy then get all pissy when their people elect leaders we don't like.  Or do you not believe in concepts like...sovereignty? Or is national sovereignty only for rich, white nations with Christian majorities?

Glenn: Iran has been supporting al Qaeda in Iraq.

Joe Liberal: What? Iran is a Shi'ite nation. Al Qaeda in Iraq is made up of Sunnis. Those two branches of Islam have been opposed to each other since the death of the Prophet Mohamed over 1400 years ago. If anything Iran would support the Shia majority government installed by the US, not a ragtag band of Sunni rebels.

Glenn: Did I mention that Mahmoud Ahmadinejad is a real jerk?

      Joe Liberal: Yes.

This is not just Beck's opinion. Beck is echoing the same distortions of reality as this hell-bent for war Bush administration.

Blood thirsty Republicans in the administration need a new enemy to blame for their failure to secure Iraq and to serve as deflection from their cozy relationship with Pakistan (a nation with nukes and that harbors Al Qaeda leadership.)

Lucky for us the left gets foreign policy. We know the way to win back the respect and the allegiance of the world is to avoid to debacles. That begins with getting out of Iraq and steering clear of spurious allegations concerning Iran.

The threat of Iran is distortion conjured by Republican politcal operatives starving to maintain power for the party of war.

Ummm.  I would think a big difference is that on Law and Order, they are trying to establish that a suspect did something.  Beck is making a massive logical blunder by trying to use the same method to establish what someone is going to do.  It doesn't hold.  Lots of people have the means, motive and opportunity to do something.  It isn't a crime until they actually do it.  That should be a big "duh?".  I don't know why you don't get that.

There are about a half-dozen guys just like Beck in every florescent sign festooned bar across America. They are CERTAIN of their opinions, they feel they know everything they need to know about world affairs. They are belligerent and cocksure. They solve the world's problems every day, between gulps of Bud and energetic games of 8-Ball. (George W. Bush is a typical product of this braintrust of traditional American know-nothingism.)

Millions of these alcohol-activated testosterone-fed "EXPERTS" across the land, and yet BECK was selected to have hours and hours a week to pontificate his dirt-ignorant bravado to the American People.

I understand there may be SOME audience from guys who would say, "Hey, THAT guy is almost as smart as I am!" This would justify having a program like "Are You As Smart As A Fifth-Grader". But Beck is on CNN!

I guess it's no coincidence that between Beck, Hannity, and Limbaugh, there's about 15 total minutes of higher education. And I'm guessing that actually KNOWING something proves a detriment to the performance of Rightwing opinion spewing. (Schoolyard bullies save their most disdain for those "pansies" who actually READ and make good grades.)

We don't WANT leaders and/or opinion speakers to be a great "guy to have a beer with." At least, we SHOULDN"T. We SHOULD want people who are SMART, EDUCATED, Sophisticated and Worldly, people who have been outside the county they were born in. We SHOULD want our policy makers to be the smartest people we can GET.

If we truly celebrated ignorance in America, we would turn all our extra cash AND our pension funds over to CLETUS down at the Discount Tire Outlet, to invest in the stock market. What the hell, he's a good ol' boy to have a beer with, let's trust him with our FUTURES.

Let's not. And let's stop listening to Beck. He has ZERO credentials to tell anyone anything about any situation. In street parlance, he is a LOSER, the kind of guy you'd be horrified to learn your sister was dating (unless she dumped Limbaugh to date Beck ... then it would be mixed emotions).

Judging from your comments neither of you have actually watched Beck. For starters, he is a recovering alcoholic, so your alcohol comment is a little out of line. Second, he does NOT claim to be any sort of historian; he consistently ridicules himself as a rodeo clown. BUT, when he presents an issue he backs it up with facts and evidence.

So until you actual try watching he show and opening your mind while doing so, your opinions are vapid. Seriously, try listening and following up his facts. I'm a conservative but I hang around liberal boards and watch the occasional liberal news show to see what the other side is thinking. Try it once, you might actually enlighten yourself.

We SHOULD want our policy makers to be the smartest people we can GET. "

Ah, Tex, me boyo, you're self-indicted as a member of the reality-based community.

You're also seeking to deep-six the GOP.  As Karl Rove once said, "...above a certain level of education, people vote for Democrats.  So there can be too much of a good thing."

"...florescent sign festooned. . .!?"  Brilliant!  Are you working on a new translation of Beowulf?

Now we have no longer any other options but to go into Iran.

Really? No other options? Because...? What is Iran doing all of a sudden that's so horrible we have to spend lives and money on yet another disastrous occupation? And why does Beck thing we even have the resources to do this?

I also expect Glenn Beck to be the first soldier to go into Iran. He has no other option, right?

this is what happens when you give alcoholics and drug addicts their own tv/radio shows, and neglect to provide them with the aluminum foil hats, to block out the communications from the cia.

Well I am somewhat impressed as I really have not seen any of the Con's usual suspects attempt to defend LAW AND ORDER as a valid reference material. They seem to be one up on the last Congress who called Michael Crichton in tp testify on Global Warming.

If you watch CNN or other cable news networks very much, you'll notice a lot of "image" ads from big corporations. They are, essentially, nebulous messages telling us how much these companies do for us. One that I've noticed lately is Lockheed. To whom are these ads targeted? How many people watching CNN are going to buy anything from Lockheed? A number somewhere in the vicinity of zero comes to mind...yet they are buying expensive advertising spots on CNN. Why?

Why is this defense contractor dumping big bucks on a news network? Anyone....anyone...

For the same reason you can see ads from your  electric power supplier. To deflect future critics by portraying your company with pastures filled with flowers and happy babies cured of suffering.

The parent company (don't know who owns it now) will someday be in a scandal about contracts or corruption and these ads will pre-place good impressions in advance.

Yeah, I've noticed that. Ads without products, without services, just a corporate logo. I always thought those ads were targeted at stock investors. Lockheed's one of the biggest war profiteers in the land. Death merchants looking for record quarterly profits. How? By paying off the government to kill people. They're evil. Pure Evil.

Well, you know that all of these putzes think we're on the brink of Armageddon, anyway. They don't speak of it openly so much, but it's an undercurrent in their thinking. Tim LaHaye, who thinks the antichrist will arise from Iraq, is acting as an advisor to President Numbnuts...the owner of Blackwater is an Evangelical nutjob. Coincidence? They just want to make sure that we're on the "right" side when Jeeeezzzzuuuuusssssss comes surfing down on a cloud and smites the bad guys.

A religion of nihilism, created at the Council of Nicaea in the 300's. Revelations should never have been added to the Bible, but fear is a good way to control the subjects, right, Constantine? They should have left out the Old Testament, too. Who wants to follow Yahweh? He hates everyone and everything. He's a war god that thrives on strife and intolerance.

The time has never been more ripe for new religions.
