Olbermann named Coulter "Worst Person" for remarks on Medved program about Jews
During the October 17 edition of MSNBC's Countdown, host Keith Olbermann named right-wing pundit Ann Coulter the "winner" in his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment following her October 15 appearance on The Michael Medved Show, which Media Matters for America noted. Olbermann characterized her remarks as "clarifying" the comments about "perfecting the Jews" that she made on the October 8 edition of CNBC's The Big Idea. Olbermann stated: "Now, it's Michael Medved making the mistake of having put her on the air, where she says, quote, 'Jews don't accept the New Testament, so, you know, as long as we're playing this new sport of "he who is offended first wins," if anyone's going to be offended by anyone else's religion, the Jews believe that my savior, a Jew, was a raving lunatic, and you don't see me sniffling and crying.' " Olbermann continued: " 'The Jews believe that my savior was a raving lunatic,' she says. And bonus points for saying, 'and you don't see me sniffling and crying.' All we see you doing is sniffling and crying."
Additionally, during the October 16 edition of Countdown, Olbermann awarded Fox News host Bill O'Reilly the "bronze" in his "Worst Person" segment for claiming not to care about Coulter's comments about "perfect[ing]" Jews, as Media Matters also noted. Olbermann said: "After Ann Coulter's anti-Semitic remarks, a Fox Noise executive told the LA Times his network would 'not rule out having her on as a guest again,' but if she did appear, 'she would be pressed about her statements.' " Olbermann continued: "Fixed News first appearance, Bill-O, about the perfecting the Jews remarks: 'I don't even care, to tell you the truth.' Coultergeist: 'Either do I. You brought it up, and I'm not explaining myself.' Bill-O: 'No, I had to bring it up because of other things.' "
Also during the October 16 program, Olbermann named syndicated radio host Rush Limbaugh the "runner-up" for claiming that "he once threatened a reporter," as Media Matters documented.
From the October 17 edition MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: But our winner, Coultergeist, actually clarifying her anti-Semitic remarks about perfecting the Jews, as in making it even more clear that she is an anti-Semite. Now, it's Michael Medved making the mistake of having put her on the air, where she says, quote, "Jews don't accept the New Testament, so, you know, as long as we're playing this new sport of 'he who is offended first wins,' if anyone's going to be offended by anyone else's religion, the Jews believe that my savior, a Jew, was a raving lunatic, and you don't see me sniffling and crying."
"The Jews believe that my savior was a raving lunatic," she says. And bonus points for saying, "and you don't see me sniffling and crying." All we see you doing is sniffling and crying. Coultergeist -- today's Worst Person in the World.
From the October 16 edition Countdown with Keith Olbermann:
OLBERMANN: The bronze to Bill-O: After Ann Coulter's anti-Semitic remarks, a Fox Noise executive told the LA Times his network would "not rule out having her on as a guest again," but if she did appear, "she would be pressed about her statements." Fixed appearance -- Fixed News first appearance, Bill-O, about the perfecting the Jews remarks: "I don't even care, to tell you the truth." Coultergeist: "Either do I. You brought it up, and I'm not explaining myself."
Bill-O: "No, I had to bring it up because of other things."
Ooh, somebody made Bill-O eat broccoli -- and nice job of pressing her too, Bill.
Our runner-up: comedian Rush Limbaugh, who has now merrily explained to the sheep the disturbing story of how he once threatened a reporter who was writing what was apparently going to be a negative profile of him for a magazine; "We found out who was writing it and made a couple of phone calls to the person writing it. And we said, 'You know what? We're going to find out where your kids go to school. We're going to find out who you knocked up in high school. We're going to find out what drugs you used. We're going to find out where you go to drink and do. We're going to find out how you paid for your house. We're going to do -- we're going to do exact -- we're going to say that, you know what? You are no different than Al Goldstein. You both masturbate."
Sheez, another Bill-O reference -- and wait, "We're going to find out what drugs he used"? Looking for mutual areas of interest, Rush?

If MMFA didn't post this weekly would anyone know Olberman is still alive? I think more people watch paint dry than watch MSNBC
I think you should go back and look at the ratings again. He's been steadily gaining on O'Reilly all year.
http://www.mediabistro.com/tvnewser/original/Total%20Viewers%20Top%20Programs.pdf
Here are the Q3/07 ratings. Olberman is 20th, not only behind BO (which I don't watch either), but also behind BO reruns.
WC, Thanks for that link. That is good solid data. Also, off subject, but found this gem following that link:
http://nymag.com/daily/movies/2007/10/wanks_for_the_memories_we_migh.html
Speculation on who Rush may have been refering to in his story about intimidating a reporter.
Yeah, yeah, we know.
O'Reilly + Ratings = Facts.
Dont you mean
O'Riley + Ratings = Facts??
Did I say he was ahead? No, I said he was gaining. You didn't disprove anything. Nice try though.
I wasn't trying to prove you wrong - as I mentioned I don't watch either of those clowns. I was just reinforceing my original point that there may be more people watching paint dry! I think I succeeded
Guess that includes me, I just finished painting my bathroom. It's drying nicely.
Now I want everyone to know, I have said nothing about this post. I know from time to time some on here will make smart A** remarks. My mouth is shut .
Nice being in the clear, eh?
Sue,
LOL
A sense of humor is always appreciated.
I only hope that whoever those "some on here" are, they appreciate your sense of humor and withhold their stupid smart A** remarks...
"If MMFA didn't post this weekly..."
If Coulter, O'Reilly & Co. didn't have some distortion, lie, or insult weekly, then your tired eyes wouldn't have to endure the severe trauma of seeing them made "Worse Persons".
Write to them.
Perhaps now you understand why cable news ratings are as low as they are. See my previous post for the link.
That's right: you know, I forgot that it's not the right's lies, distortions and insults that matter to the right-wingers. It's tv ratings.
Dave - if you want to discuss lies, distortions and insults lets continue on a man-made global warming thread.
The lies and distortions of the right-wingers won't fit in a single thread. That's why there are 10,000 threads like that on this site.
Don't trouble yourself. Keep avoiding the topic like the mindless right-wing robot, and look over there and change the subject. Discuss how bad Olbermann's ratings allegedly are. It's all you've got.
if you want to discuss lies, distortions and insults lets continue on a man-made global warming thread.
Even better yet and more accepted, lets talk about claims of WMD's in Iraq, about spying on US citizens and about how our attackers in Iraq are from AQI and about the political hiring and firing of U.S. prosecutors. There is an endless supply of such topics thanks to this current corrupt, lying administation.
Global warming is an actual debate. All the above refer to well proven lies, distortions and insults.
Seriously Dave - if you think coming to this website and whining about news coverage is going to change anything you are sadly mistaken. MMFA is a mere fly on the butt of a donkey. (I am not insulting you fellow posters here).
Ratings are not partisan - they tell the story of whos listening. If you don't like whats being broadcast do like most others are doing - change the channel.
I'd disagree because these shows have targeted audiences. By definition, if you are targeting say the right wing, the show's ratings would be a representation of the success of that partisan targeting. That's why (as you pointed out) they have small audiences. Limbaugh may look good in the ratings, but realistically he only draws a few million listeners, less than 2% of the entire population of the US.
But I do agree, if you don't like it, change the channel. I do.
It also tells you who likes to get their news with some 'spin' on it. Die-hard right-wingers watch Fox News religiously because it validates many of the opinions that wouldn't be touched on by large news (often due to political correctness)
Left-wingers often prefer the facts without any slant, and will therefore opt to watch local news over somebody like Olbermann.
Just because Fox News has higher ratings doesn't mean their message is any better or more accurate. It just means they can sell news, which often is tied to sensationalism and fear-mongering ("What you're eating for dinner could kill you, film at 11!")
Left-wingers often prefer the facts without any slant, and will therefore opt to watch local news over somebody like Olbermann.
You're funny!
You're funny, too. Funny looking!
I resemble that remark!
Micsha's post was actually probably pretty accurate, and very concise.
The only thing I'd add is the "groupthink" mentality that is much more attractive to conservatives. ( as demonstrated here by the constant references to ratings as a rebuttal to criticisms of quality and credibility).
I'll say it again, Over 1 Billion Served.
HBL wrote: "...was actually probably pretty accurate"
I guess that means you feel that Mic's statement might possibly be mostly accurate?
Hahaha.. I love it!
Hi Barney! What do you love about it? That I clearly define an opinion as just that, if it's something unprovable? That must seem bizarre to somebody who regularly posts ridiculous and unsupported opinions as fact. ;0)
Micsha and HBL, nicely said, nice points.
"If you don't like whats being broadcast do like most others are doing - change the channel. "
I suggest that if you don't like whats being highlighted and discussed here, then do like most people do: don't look at it.
For such a supposedly "fly on the butt" website, you're dispropotionately concerned about what is said here --as are all the other wingnuts who disingenuously claim something similar. From Limbaugh down to the lowliest troll.
oooh, a ratings happy troll...i think you need to look at the numbers again....you know the ones that show most of lufa boys audience being over 60, while ko's is in the 25-49 demo...
In reference to other 'conversations' I've had re this particular topic... this is exactly the kind of press (and the only press) that a hag like Coulter should get. This tendency to sit with her, ask lame questions and await her response like she's some sort of real political commentator is absurd.
How telling that she looks better with an eye patch.
I have seen it before too but never understood the eyepatch. It appears to be the equivalent of putting a Media Matters pin on Stalin and calling it comedy. Who would be that unoriginal, Keith? What's next, drawing a black eye on Bill O?
Oh, and by the way Keith, Nappy Headed Ho's are back in the news this week. Care to comment, or continue to sell yourself out?
I don't know, maybe like Captain Sparrow says
"pirate" after betraying someone or lying or just acting in a selfish immature manner.
Dave, I've always wondered what the patch was supposed to signify. Does Keith think Ann is a pirate?
Thank you Keith for a roundup of 3 of the topics we've already seen here on MMFA this week. Repeats are always welcome because...well I can't think of a reason. But I'm sure there must be one.
And thank you MMFA for rewarding your sidekick with his very own thread, because he's the only one out there giving the Liberal side of the story, well him & most of the rest of the MSM.
And thank you all [in advance] for any nasty posts in reply.
Jeter you are opening up a can of worms. Now I am sure you understand you will be the target of some hateful attacks? You must never ever say anything bad about Olbermann, it is just not allowed. Ever on this site. of course I am being sarcastic
Now I am sure you understand you will be the target of some hateful attacks?
Yeah JLyon I hear ya. But to be honest, I don't care if they call for me to be tarred & feathered ;-)
Oh yeah?
How about the rack?*
* - Pythons will recall the Spanish Inquisition episode.
One for drying dishes? ;-)
Better yet...being locked in solitary for two weeks with a life insurance salesman*
* Woody Allen's punishment for running away from a prison work crew in "Take the Money and Run"
better yet, tarred, feathered and an eyepatch slapped on him.
Well Jeter, if you're anything like me, you're no dish. But thanks for the chuckle!
"I have seen it before too but never understood the eyepatch... It appears to be the equivalent of putting a Media Matters pin on Stalin and calling it comedy. Who would be that unoriginal, Keith? What's next, drawing a black eye on Bill O? - dave / Thursday October 18, 2007 03:25:29 PM EST"
It's very clearly a visual reference to Daryl Hannah's character Elle Driver in the "Kill Bill" movies (which in turn was apparently derivitive of a Swedish movie called "Thriller - en grym film").
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elle_Driver
Aside from both being tall blondes, I think the comparison to Coulter is very unfair to Daryl Hannah (or even to Elle Driver).
And thank you all [in advance] for any nasty posts in reply.
You're welcome, you stinky poo poo dough brained conservative! Woof! <lifts leg and pees>
Good Doggy ;-)
I think Jeter might look sexy in feathers.
I love your fantasies sweet Julia :-)
I hope you don't feel objectified. But you had it coming with all that tar and feather talk. ;-0)
A good belly rub for you, Snoop. Who's a good doggy?
Woof! Woof! <repeatedly picks up and drops favorite ball toy>
Ah Snoop, I think it's back to Doggy Training School for you! ;-)
Jeter - obviously it makes you angry, so there is a good point to this posting! Since you conservatives love all the commentators that make liberals 'foam at the mouth with rage', shouldn't MMFA be allowed to post things that have that effect on conservatives?
Your objection subsequently validates the purpose of the post.
Oh, and you're welcome.
Angry? Nah. Guess I should have put in a few of my ;-) faces.
Isn't it obvious? Eye patch = Scalliwag, or in Ann's case = ScalliHag
I was wondering why Romney got runner-up and who the other person was.
Onionhead, that other person was a woman named Susan Orr who Junior appointed to oversee Federal Family Planning program. She by the way thinks that 'contraceptives' should not be covered by heath insurance. Not to concerned about choice or health (Aids, STD's) just abortion.
How telling that she looks better with an eye patch.
Pit, now if they could make one large enough to cover her big mouth!
There was, but she used her fire breathing powers and burned it off.
The Kieth Oberman gimmick ("worserest person in the woild") is designed to get ratings and notoriety for his low rated cable program. However, just like how the smear campaign against Limbaugh has only made Rush more popular, the Obberman "award" has really become a badge of honor for conservatives.Honestly, it's hard for me to respect any conservative who has not received the award. I mean, if I hear of a well know and respected conservative in the media and find out that he has not been smeared by Keeth, I have to wonder what is wrong with that conservative. Finally, I have to give Rush Limbaugh credit for using the smear-letter signed by the crazies in Washington DC as a means of raising money for a great charity. The smear-letter is going well over $100,000 and Rush, being the great man he truly is, is going to match the final bid dollar for dollar. No doubt, this charity auction on EBay will probably gain Rush another smear attack from Keyth because of RL's support for the troops, but so be it!
Curious, what is the charity? I have heard about this auction but haven't gone into it much.
"The Destroya Institute for Combating Integrity in Broadcasting"
I think his charity supports white, christian god-fearing, american-born, right-leaning, heterosexual male troops.
Rush thinks the rest of the troops are 'phony'
It's a great charity - you got to hand it to RL to turn this whole thing around so that it promotes something good. MARINE CORP-LAW ENFORCEMENT FOUNDATION The recent war in Iraq has certainly illuminated America’s commitment to freedom. We are reminded that freedom is not free. The price is great. No one knows that better than the left-behind sons and daughters of America’s fallen heroes.Through the continuous support of our donors, we have distributed aid with a value of more than $29,000,000.00 to eligible children. This assistance was primarily rendered to children of Marines or Federal law enforcement personnel who were killed on duty or died under extraordinary circumstances while serving our country at home or abroad. These funds enable us to provide these children with scholarships for their higher education. When a child of a United States Marine is afflicted with a physical or mental disability and requires special medical equipment or tutoring, our Foundation may grant financial assistance to that family if their personal insurance does not cover the complete cost of treatment for this child. In addition to the regular program, our Foundation decided to support all American Forces and also Coalition Forces in the invasion of Iraq and taking of Baghdad from 3 March 2003 to 16 July 2003. In the past, the Foundation also included in our program the children who lost a parent from all agencies killed in the murderous attack on the Pentagon. We also decided to go back and give our bonds to children who lost a parent on the USS Cole; the children of the Air Force personnel killed at Khobar Towers; and, with great honor, the twelve children who lost their parent on the space shuttle Columbia disaster. This assistance has had a positive, life-changing effect on many, many children. We are thankful for the commitment and support of our many members and volunteers. Because of their dedication, no administrative costs of any type are charged to our Foundation. One hundred percent of the donations received is used to fund programs for the children we serve. The Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation is certified as one of America's Best Charities by Independent Charities of America.
Whatta peach of a guy.
Actually, he's more pear-shaped, but I'm sure he has the heart the size of a kumquat.
Yeah, El Rushbo is going to throw some money at it, along with what he conned out of his followers, and the zombies are pacified. He is a great man.
On second thought, the high bidder on the letter may not be an idiot dittohead, but somebody who is betting it's worth a lot more once history takes it's course.
Long after the Republican party crumbles into dust, when future generations read about the horrors and ask "why didn't anybody do anything about the GOP machine earlier", there is at least evidence that the entire country wasn't stoopid enough to buy what they were selling.
I wonder if Soros is bidding. And why hasn't MMFA denied that he is bidding?
HBL, Soros should bid a couple of Mil and dare RashL to match it as he has supposedly said (according to BillyBob or whoever) he would. Let's if the Mouth's money is really where his Mouth is (RashL, that is).
I'm meeting George for coffee in the morning, Oscar. I'll run it by him.
Billy, the letter is now at 17% over 100k, not really in the well over range. But, "the crazies in Washington" are 41% of sitting, duly elected US Senators.
Rush, being the great man he truly is...
Why right wingers love making hero's out of fat, bloviating egotists who used a pimple on their @ss as an excuse not to serve their country is beyond me.
Snoop,
The "pimple" you refer to is believed to be a pilonidal cyst, which then as now, is a disqualifying condition for induction. It is inglorious to say the least.
Butt, the reason righties defend Rush in this case is that Waxman, Reid and the Democrats are using their offices in the Government to persecute Rush because of that Rush's political views. Even though most here disagree with Rush, I would think all the liberals would stand up in opposition to this unwarranted and unconstitutional abuse of governmental power by the Democrats in Congress - simply on principle.
You mean like the way the republicans stood up in defense of moveon.org? Why should democrats cave 1st here?
Snoop,
In case you missed it in your quest for equivalence, the condemnation by the Republican Senators was in reference to an ad calling a four star general, a traitor. That ad rightfully deserved condemnation.
The Democrats attack on Rush is an attack on a U.S. citizen by purposely misrepresenting what he said and hoping that people will think there is some truth. (Of which there is none.) These attacks on Rush by Democrats ranks right up there with McCarthyism.
Howeve if you choose not to see the difference, I would not be surprised.
Actually that ad in question had a question mark in the headline.
You know, similar to the Fox News question mark when they're "being fair and balanced" and letting us decide.
"The Democrats attack on Rush is an attack on a U.S. citizen by purposely misrepresenting what he said and hoping that people will think there is some truth. (Of which there is none.)"
Barney, the "attack on a U.S. citizen" thing is a bit weak when talking about a guy with a nationally syndicated radio show and close connections to our current administration.
If you're still buying Rush's slippery backpedaling for his phony soldiers remarks, I won't try to talk you out of it.It was a pretty big topic here for a couple of weeks, and the Rush fans were given plenty of opportunity to support their case.
I don't recall if you were posting during that time, but nobody making your argument came through with a plausible explanation, so your statement about there being misrepresentation regarding full transcripts of Rush's remarks is only an admission of his dishonesty, and not very convincing to anybody except a hard-core dittohead..
anotheramerican is proof positive that repugs are all pinheads....free speech is free speech...
No it wasnt Rush said what he said. Just because he TOLD you hiveminders to believe differntly doesnt mean anyone with two brain cells to rub together is likely to accept your delusions as reality
Radio talk show host, Randi Rhodes had the same cyst in the same place and served in the United States Air Force. So you are wrong about Rush not being able to serve.
Will Rush donate to troops who don't support the war? I hear he LOVES those guys for exercising their free speech. Yep, he really loves the troops! He thinks that they are all extremely GENUINE, and above all moral and objective criticism.
He should sell all his prescription drugs on the street and donate the money to the soldiers. That would probably generate more than $100k, what with all the different doctors he's visited.
Billiy, do you really think we're that stupid to buy into Limbaugh's charity gimmick?
Limbaugh got himself into a bit of trouble with his "phony soldiers" comment. It obviously hurt him because he went into non-stop damage control. His P.R. people most likely told him he needed some gimmick to show how devoted he was to the troops. So they find an appropriate charity for Limbaugh and make a big deal pout of what a humanitarian Limbaugh is. Gimme a break...Limbaugh doesn't have a kind bone in his body. This is all a stunt to rehabilitate his image.
Limbaugh remains the biggest right wing A-Hole of all the despicab;e right wing media A-Holes there are to select from. If Limbaugh was on fire I wouldn't urinate on him to put him out.
That last statement is incontinenceable!
Actually, I think Limbaugh is trying to keep the FCC off his back.
How much do you suppose his contract with Armed Forces radio bring him and Clear Channel every year?
That's what his fine (donation) ought to be.
Re:....what Jews think about Jesus.Jews do NOT BELIEVE JESUS WAS A RAVING LUNATIC.
Jews believe Ann Coulter is a raving lunatic.
Revise the above to:KNOW SHE IS A RAVING LUNATIC
the graypanther
I see you perfected your thoughts about the minds of Jews. :-)
Wow, Olbermann was 3 for 3 last night. He personally attacked three big name conservatives in one night. And the funny thing is that he probably only had about 10 people who actually watched his show. The guy is a complete disgrace.
Olbermann is truly a great American who has demonstrated the courage to shine the light of truth on the despicable, lying right wing of this country...the rancid Republicon Party and its minions. God bless you, Keith Olbermann.
But, Irony- More people watched Bill O'Reilly and Dancing with the Stars, therefore, he's not as good. A "disgrace", in fact, for being one of the few media people to actually comment on the pathetic Republican administration and their media monkeys.
What's the deal with the Ratings Queens? Could there be a more simple-minded and neurotically insecure way to go through life than basing ones opinions entirely on how many other people have that opinion?
It simply doesn't matter what what he says on his show if nobody watches him anyway. It's basically like he's talking to a wall.
What's the deal with the ratings queens?
Good question, HBL.
Did you notice RINO's non-response? "It simply doesn't matter what what he says on his show if nobody watches him anyway." In other words, RINO bases his reason for ignoring Olbermann's comments (it doesn't matter what he says) on something that's both flagrantly untrue (nobody watches him) and irrelevant. But hey, this is par for the course for RINO ("I think Sean Hannity is pretty thoughtful and pretty mainstream") Hunter.
If the ratings queens want to ignore Olbermann, that's fine. If they want to quibble about what he actually says, that's also fine, provided they get some facts to back up their assertions. But if they want to dismiss Olbermann out of hand because they're convinced that popularity = truth (a position no Christian should hold, of course!), then they've just fallen off the logic truck and are totally out of their depth when it comes to debating that particular thread.
Truth is not the criterion for a popularity contest.
Yeah it doesnt matter what Shakespear says since no one watches those movies they make out of his plays. It Certainly doesnt matter what BUSH says since he only has about a 24% approval rating, which puts him just above TOOTH DECAY.
And, by the way,
Did you notice that RINO, sharp-eyed as ever, couldn't even get his basic facts straight about the stories in question? The three conservatives highlighted were not all the same night.
Makes you wonder a bit about whether he's actually reading the article.
Especially if we think about the actual number of people watching any show , as compared to the total population, the difference in numbers is pretty insignificant, and less so considering the less desirable demographic that goes for the conservative source.
I just find it a fascinating mind set. The "comfort in numbers" thing is easy to understand, I think that's wired into us, and everybody reacts to it in some way, at least subconsciously.
It seems a strange way to assert ones opinions, though.Especially in the face of that "popular" source being documented as unreliable and inferior.
Thanks for pointing out that little technicality. Two of the conservatives were on the same night and the other one was the night before. Thanks for that significant piece of information.
Yes, and thanks for your "significant" response to the real substance of their posts (as usual).
Thank you for chiming in with the Hivemind official opinion. Since you are a complete MORON you dont mind if we just laugh derisively at you do you?
I like Olbermann, but it is hard to listen to him rail on Ann being Anti-Semitic and worst person in the world while all the shows that lead into and follow his show - Chris Matthews, Tucker Carlson, Joe Scarborough (although now in the morning) - all of his "teammates" lick their chops every day to have Coulter on their show. It seems a little disingenuous to call someone Anti-Semitic and then have them on the next hour on your network.
