Savage repeatedly called Obama an "Afro-Leninist"
On his radio show, Michael Savage stated of a picture of Sen. Barack Obama: "It is actually a halo Photoshopped around Obama's head. The arrogant one, the one with big ears, the man who has accomplished nothing, the Afro-Leninist -- Obama, that is." Later, referring to Sen. John McCain, Savage stated: "[H]e continues to appease and appeal to those who will never vote for him. This is ... the classic behavior of the country-club, checked-pants Republican that is fundamentally finished. And maybe it's time for them to be finished. But then again, what do we have as an option? An Afro-Leninist who's achieved nothing?"
On the June 6 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, The Savage Nation, host Michael Savage repeatedly referred to Sen. Barack Obama as an "Afro-Leninist." Savage stated: "If the other side had one decent candidate, one real conservative, he would win 70-30. But because we have a retread, a Bush III, it's going to be very doubtful as to whether or not we can avoid outright Marxism and Afro-Leninism running this country." Later in the broadcast, referring to a picture of Obama that Savage had placed on his website, he stated, "It is actually a halo Photoshopped around Obama's head. The arrogant one, the one with big ears, the man who has accomplished nothing, the Afro-Leninist -- Obama, that is." A short while later, referring to Sen. John McCain's purported refusal to, among other things, "go on any ... conservative talk show," Savage stated: "Instead, he continues to appease and appeal to those who will never vote for him. This is ... the classic behavior of the country-club, checked-pants Republican that is fundamentally finished. And maybe it's time for them to be finished. But then again, what do we have as an option? An Afro-Leninist who's achieved nothing?"
Savage has previously called Obama an "Afro-Leninist." On his April 14 broadcast, Savage asserted that Obama is "a Marxist in his heart," adding, "He's an Afro-Leninist, and I know he's dangerous." Savage has also asserted that Obama is "an unknown stealth candidate who went to a madrassas in Indonesia"; has said of Obama, "I think he was hand-picked by some very powerful forces both within and outside the United States of America to drag this country into a hell that it has not seen since the Civil War of the middle of the 19th century"; and has stated: "[W]e, the American people, being at war with radical Islam have a -- have a need to know just exactly what kind of Muslim he was exposed to, what kind of Muslim he is, what kind of Muslim teachings he's -- he's friendly to. We have a right to know if he's a so-called friendly Muslim or one who aspires to more radical teachings."
Talk Radio Network, which syndicates Savage's show, claims that Savage is heard on more than 350 radio stations. The Savage Nation reaches at least 8.25 million listeners each week, according to Talkers Magazine, making it one of the most listened-to talk radio shows in the nation, behind only The Rush Limbaugh Show and The Sean Hannity Show.
From the June 6 broadcast of Talk Radio Network's The Savage Nation:
SAVAGE: Obama is the most narcissistic candidate in the history of the presidency. Who is he? He's done nothing. What, has he cured polio and cancer while I was sleeping last night? The guy's done nothing.
In 2016, he says, I'll be wrapping up my second term as president. It's astounding to me. If the other side had one decent candidate, one real conservative, he would win 70-30. But because we have a retread, a Bush III, it's going to be very doubtful as to whether or not we can avoid outright Marxism and Afro-Leninism running this country. You understand that, or don't you?
[...]
SAVAGE: Let's start with a picture I found of the great one, that is the great pretender, Obama. And I puzzled over this for three days, but we put it up on MichaelSavage.com. Reuters, which, as you well know, is the most whack-job of all of the media, has actually been publishing a picture of Obama with a halo around his head. And we put it up on MichaelSavage.com under the headline "Crazy media shows Obama with halo."
I thought I was seeing things, but this has been up for days. It is actually a halo Photoshopped around Obama's head. The arrogant one, the one with big ears, the man who has accomplished nothing, the Afro-Leninist -- Obama, that is. And so we put it up for you. We've never seen propaganda like this. I have never seen propaganda like this for a candidate in my life.
The media is a hundred percent the reason behind this invented candidate's ascent, and that's all I can tell you. We're in real trouble because on the other side of the aisle, we have a retread who has fundamentally given the middle finger to the conservative voter, who is -- that's the only audience that can get him elected, is the conservative audience. And he said he doesn't even care about them.
He has said that, this moron. He said he doesn't care about the conservative audience. He won't go on -- forget about my show. He won't go on any talk -- conservative talk show. Instead, he continues to appease and appeal to those who will never vote for him. This is cons-- this is -- excuse me -- the classic behavior of the country-club, checked-pants Republican that is fundamentally finished.
And maybe it's time for them to be finished. But then again, what do we have as an option? An Afro-Leninist who's achieved nothing? So there it is. We're trapped. We the people really are stuck. I don't know what the choices are, and I don't want to talk about it. I don't really want to talk about it.

Howard Kurtz's wasted opportunity

Or is he always this mindless?
Thankfully, I don't listen to him much so I'll have to depend on others' impressions.
Or is he always this mindless?
Short Answer: Yes. Apparently if the government tries to dso anything at all for the betterment of it's people, that's somehow comminist.
African + Leninist = Afro-Leninist. I don't think Obama is a Leninist but why is this here?
How about 'Afro-Stalinist'?
Surprised that M. Rotten Levin hasn't used that one since he loves throwing the term 'Stalinist' around bunches.
Let's just put the Obama lies together in one big word. He is an:
Afro-Leninist-socialist-communist-marxist-American hating-madrasa trained terrorist.
"You forgot Christian-Muslim"
Isn't this an oxy-moron? Like 'clean mud' or 'conservative intelligence' ....
I wonder if the right-wing sleeze machine realizes this? Nevermind...... it does!
And Savage levels his labels at both candidates pretty neatly here, along with his slam at Obama, he calls McCain a "moron".
Life's not all bad around here, now is it?...... ;)
Ah, Michael Weiner.
Spokesperson for the latest minority group.
The Dumbass-Americans.
I MUCH prefer big ears over big mouths. Apparently Mr. Savage loves the sound of his own racist rants.
Poor little man.
And maybe it's time for them to be finished. But then again, what do we have as an option? An Afro-Leninist who's achieved nothing? So there it is. We're trapped. We the people really are stuck. I don't know what the choices are, and I don't want to talk about it. I don't really want to talk about it. ---Michael Savage
I didn’t hear the show, but he could be alluding here to the new party he has said he will start after the coming elections. It will be a nationalist party, with that word probably in its' name.
After a long while mulling and finally deciding against a presidential run for himself, he eventually concluded months ago that this was the best way he could use his influence to serve America.
Why don't the CONSERVATIVES break away from the Republan Party and run their own campaign? Look at the options they would have for candidates....Limbaugh, Hannity etc would never accept the nomination. They couldn't survive the cut in pay. What doesn't Savvy run for office? I am sure he would get at least 1 million votes...nationally.
Go to give it to my Verminista leader, Doc Savvy...pick on everybody. Keeps you on the air.
I only vote for Trotskyites and Maoists myself. Obama just lost my vote!
; )

Forget for the moment that Savage referred to Obama as an Afro-Leninist--that's just name-calling. Instead read the remarks I've bolded above & honestly ask yourself if at least some of it isn't basically the truth.
Obama was the fortunate recipient of a gushing media that, while not 100% responsible for his ascent, certainly played a large part in his meteoric rise to the top of the candidate heap. That & an almost universal dislike of Hillary by the MSM lifted Obama probably further than he could have gotten on his own.
Savage's description of the McCain candidacy is also right on target.
I rarely if ever pay much attention to this crude loud mouth...but every now & then something that spews out of his mouth has a ring of truth to it.
I know people are probably sick of my theories on personality types, but Obama is an idealist personality type, These types are very good at connecting with people and acheiving consensus among a wide variety of people. His ability to motivate people and inspire them is what has caused his meteroric rise. He is indeed very special in that regard. He also showed that he and his organization were very adept at building an organization.
The media did give him more favorable coverage than Clinton. I can agree with that. But the media didn't make him. He has innate qualities that will continue to make him a star. I am convinced now, more than ever, that he may be precisely what this country needs.
He also showed that he and his organization were very adept at building an organization.
That didn't come out right. It should read "he also showed that he was very adept at building an organization".
That said, the guy is a star in his own right, regardless of the media. He has wisdom that is innate and he will be shown to be the guy we need, the media be damned. Hey, they're coming after him now. That was predicted. But I predict they will fail to derail him.
JuliaJayne, I'm not sick at all of your "personality type" analyses. I think for all of the media's obsession with "experience" as defined by "time in Washington", Obama has the most appeal as somebody who, while arguably green on some details, is more of a big picture type than any of the bizness-as-usual old geezers the GOP can dig up.
Although there's still a considerable right-wing base in this country, I don't see anything but shrinkage in their future, even accounting for the natural historic swings of the political pendulum.
It's often mentioned here what a large part of the GOP playbook "projection" has become. Although pretty common in most neurotic people, it's been raised to a constant behavior by the right wing/media lately.
Projection fools and distracts a good number of people, and focuses their attention on whatever they're being directed towards. Secondly, it pre-empts the pointing out of the truth, and that projection, as it's easy to trick the already-fooled into thinking that the ones pointing out reality are ... projecting.
(I am making a connection here, sorry for the meandering...)
Sean Hannity (& others) have been trying a desperate Hail Mary by trying to frame the Dems as The Party of Fear, tossing out embarrassing lines about "I'm afraid my family won't get medical care", and "I'm afraid I won't be able to send my kids to college".
Of course, many Americans know these aren't merely "fears", but very real concerns they're living with. Addressing these concerns appeals to the positive attitudes of people, the idea that we, as Americans, can accomplish things together that may seem daunting to individuals who aren't in the top 10% of the wealthy.
Then I caught Bill O'Reilly tonight, who explained to his guest that McCain needs to look into the camera, and say "Obama's not going to protect you from these crazy people overseas who want to kill you!" (paraphrased)
And I thought "These guys really ought to get together for a little huddle before they start ad-libbing". McCain wants to spend the kitty on the same stuff it's been going to for the past 5 years. I'll admit, that's scary.
And it's indicative of a personality type that I have no use for.
It's all about the fear. Fear is the most irrational of emotions. Those selling it to us deflect our attention from things that will kill us, cigarettes, alcohol, pollution, to long shots like terrorist attacks, godless sodomites and scary black, brown or yellow people.
Unfortunately, it seems to be working with many older people. Hopefully, the young people who seem to be energized by Senator Obama will see through the crap.
Sadly, fear is used as a political bludgeon by the left and the right. Like, we are headed for a theocratic state; our civil liberties are headed for the trash bin; and racist, sexist, homophobic and xenophobic rightwingers will cleanse our nation of undesirables.
The left will say these are valid, the right says theirs are valid, it's a wash.
You may not be getting enough sleep, Jeter. ;0)
"If the other side had one decent candidate, one real conservative, he would win 70-30. But because we have a retread, a Bush III..." (WeinerDude)
Yes, Weiner, 70% of this country is made up of the far right fringe. That neatly explains the explosive success of your Huckabees and Romneys and Pauls and Tancredos, and the other guys whose names I can't even remember right now.
The GOP just decided to paint Grampy as a centrist to make the contest sporting.
It's almost sad to see this poor withered little failure delude himself, that the reason his wacko ideas aren't more popular is that they're not wacko enough.
As for Obama's rise, people like Mike and Jeter can claim the press is the big reason but that ignores and underestimates Obama's grassroots efforts.
Just ask Hillary Clinton about the cost of undersestimating Barack Obama.
"Classic narcissist"? Hmmm. I peg him as a garden-variety megalomaniac, but garden-varietals of any ilk usually don't get national radio shows. Must be he is either getting better or getting worse, but I can't say for sure which it would be because I haven't been listening to him much lately. Can't stand the rants anymore, plus there is MMfA so other people are listening now. His little dog clearly provides some mental-health benefit, that is kind of nice in its way. Might be interesting from the audience POV if the dog turned out to be a Muslim.
Woof!
The problem is two-fold. First, there is the question of "Does Savage believe half of the hateful things he says?"
I personally believe he doesn't, but he knows it sells, so he'll continue to make ignorant statements. Which brings us to the next problem, which is the percentage of the public that craves this kind of ignorant public discussion. The reality of the situation is we can't stop people from seeking out this sort of entertaiment and as long as their is a reward for having a forum in which people can spew their personal, hateful rhetoric, there will be a Savage on radio, or a Hannity on t.v.
Which is why I love Mediamatters. The only way to combat such ignorance is through information. Keep on putting them out there Mediamatters!
Savage uses colorful language on the air and many in here go all cockeyed with disgust. It's entertainment at its best. Listen and enjoy; or go bowling. - Les is Less
No. I meant thank you Mediamatters. Also, remove Savage with Reverend Wright or Louis Farrakhan in your comment above. I wonder is it still entertainment? No it's different because it's religion eh? Well for many of the brain washed drones Savage is a religion and all he spews is hate. That's the kind of entertainment the Nazi propaganda machine pushed prior to Germany being brainwashed. But hey, it's entertainment at its best for you, right?
Oh, you're a smart one. Throw in a bunch of red herrings and maybe something will stick. Uh......NO!
Try again.
