In his nightly "Worst Person in the World" segment on June 10, MSNBC Countdown host Keith Olbermann awarded the "bronze" to radio host John Gibson and "runner-up" to Fox News correspondent Griff Jenkins.

Olbermann gave Gibson the bronze for saying to a caller on the June 6 edition of his Fox News Radio show: "You don't know what [Sen.] Barack Obama stands for. You just like him because he's -- he's -- he's like you and you want to see one of you up there, and you don't care what he stands for." The caller responded: "[H]e's not one of me. ... He's not one of me just because he's a black guy or something like that. That doesn't make him one of me. He's standing for him, not me." Gibson had previously told an African-American caller that, "You're sticking with Obama, because he's ... he's a brother."

Jenkins was named "runner-up" for a comment he made on the June 9 edition of Fox News' Live Desk with Martha MacCallum, in which he said of a photo of Obama on a bicycle ride: "Where is he going? And I was thinking, maybe to get a pocket protector for his nerd pencils. What is that?"

From the June 10 edition of MSNBC's Countdown with Keith Olbermann:

OLBERMANN: But first, time for our number two story, Countdown's "Worst Persons in the World."

The bronze to John Gibson of Fixed News. I'm sorry, Fixed News Radio. They dumped him from TV -- sorry. Of course, this does allow him to be even more of a racist than usual, telling an African-American caller, quote, "You don't know what Barack Obama stands for. You just like him because he's -- he's -- he's like you and you want to see one of you up there and you don't care what he stands for." You know, like the way the Republicans voted the last two times.

How patently, by the way, is Fox making stuff up to try to get McCain back into the race? This patently: Our runner-up is Griff Jenkins, a correspondent of some sort over there, commenting on the images of Obama riding a bicycle. "Here's what no one's said yet. Where is he going? And I was thinking, maybe to get a pocket protector for his nerd pencils? What is that?"

Hang on. Can we see that picture of Mr. Jenkins again, please? Uh-huh. You might want to go easy on the nerd references, there, Skeezix.

I'm still waiting for MMFA or Keith or anyone at all to report on Glen Becks little recent gem......

Remember last year when Beck had the nerve to ask newly elected Congressman Keith Ellison (who is a muslim and a democrat) on whether he could trust that he isn't working with our enemies (MMFA did a story on this, but I can't find the link to that)

And yet, last week, I sent to MMFA a news tip on this the following morning, that when Beck had newly elected governor of Louisiana Bobby Jindal (who happens to be a muslim and a republican) was told by Beck that his ethnicity and patriotism was not an issue.....

Where's the thread on this one? I think it deserves it!

Cap, I think Bobby Jindal is a Catholic. I doubt seriously if folks down here in Louisiana would elect a Muslim to any office. They'd be more inclined to waterboard them...  ;>)

Bobby Jindal is a devout catholic and also loved by the Religious Right. He is not muslim.

According to Wikipedia, he was a Hindu, but converted to Catholicism while in high school.  I thought the original mention of Bobby Jindal was fishy - if I remember correctly, the whole reason India, Pakistan, and East Pakistan (now Bangladesh) were partitioned when they gained independence from Great Britain was to separate Hindus from Muslims.

Actually I'd love to have a nerd in the Whitehouse. It'd beat the anti-intellectual crowd who have been running it for the last 8 years. Nerds at least have a healthy respect for science.

You can't say anything bad about Obama, if you do your racist.  You can't say good things about him, number one: He doesn't have a long history, Number two: Your voting for him only because he is black.  Can't win can ya?

Keith has put himself on the list a number of times that I can remember, at least once for reporting a story from a source that wasn't adequately vetted, unlike the right wing talking heads that NEVER make a mistake.

Also, if being angry about what Bush and Co have done to my country and being passionate about speaking about it makes me a "hater", so be it. I just wish I could speak 1/10th as eloquently as Keith.
