Claiming "I'm not making any comparison here," O'Reilly asserted that like Pelosi, Hitler also "practiced for hours before making a speech"
On The O'Reilly Factor, after guest Tonya Reiman claimed that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's body language during a recent speech suggested she "practices the speech too much," Bill O'Reilly responded: "You know who used to do that, who practiced for hours before making a speech? And I'm not making any comparison here. So, don't -- you crazy left-wing websites out there, it's not a comparison. Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler practiced for hours, all of his ... gestures and everything else before he went out there."
During a "body language" segment on the September 30 broadcast of Fox News' The O'Reilly Factor, host Bill O'Reilly and guest Tonya Reiman discussed House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's (D-CA) body language during her speech before the September 29 vote on the proposed $700 billion financial bailout bill. During the discussion, Reiman said: "I think that what happens is she [Pelosi] practices the speech too much and wants to come across as forceful and powerful and uses gestures that she might think are forceful." After O'Reilly stated, "So she's practicing," Reiman reiterated, "I think she does practice." O'Reilly replied: "You know who used to do that, who practiced for hours before making a speech? And I'm not making any comparison here. So, don't -- you crazy left-wing websites out there, it's not a comparison. Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler practiced for hours, all of his ... gestures and everything else before he went out there. So if you practice your gestures, and then you get out there and you screw them up, you just -- you should just be natural."
As Media Matters for America has documented, O'Reilly frequently attacks those with whom he disagrees -- such as the Daily Kos and Huffington Post -- by comparing them to the Nazis.
From the September 30 broadcast of The O'Reilly Factor:
O'REILLY: "Body Language" segment tonight: Three interesting situations beginning with Speaker Pelosi's unbelievable monologue yesterday before the bailout vote.
PELOSI [video clip]: Seven hundred billion dollars -- a staggering number but only a part of the cost of the failed Bush economic policies to our country. ... Now, eight years later, the foundation of that fiscal irresponsibility, combined with an anything-goes economic policy, has taken us to where we are today.
O'REILLY: Which is chaos. With us now, the doyenne of body language, the queen of physical motion, Tonya Reiman. Now, when we last left Nancy Pelosi, you were saying that her hand gestures don't match --
REIMAN: Her verbal --
O'REILLY: -- what she's saying.
REIMAN: Yeah.
O'REILLY: It's the same thing here?
REIMAN: I constantly see that. And one of the interesting things I saw tonight was, as she's pointing, it's like her fingers are stuttering. So, watch as she points.
O'REILLY: The fingers are stuttering.
REIMAN: It's almost as if there's a verbal exclamation point that she's trying to make as she makes a point. Watch.
O'REILLY: There it is. There it goes.
REIMAN: Ba-ba-boom. You see it? Ba-ba-boom. And she does this in this entire speech. I saw this consistently. And I always feel like her gestures are just too rehearsed.
O'REILLY: Is it maybe she's just not coordinated?
REIMAN: It's possible. That's absolutely possible.
O'REILLY: You know? You know who Joe Cocker is? The singer, the rock singer -- Joe Cocker, OK?
REIMAN: Yes.
O'REILLY: He gets out there, and he's doing all this, and he's just not coordinated, you know?
REIMAN: Right. But your gestures should be more natural. As we're talking, you know, there's certain gestures that are automatic.
O'REILLY: Do you think that Nancy Pelosi, while she's giving a stem-winder speech like that, knows what her hands are doing?
REIMAN: No. I think that what happens is she practices the speech too much and wants to come across as forceful and powerful, and uses gestures that she might think are forceful and powerful --
O'REILLY: OK.
REIMAN: For instance, she started off with the rigid point.
O'REILLY: So, she's practicing.
REIMAN: I think she does practice, yes.
O'REILLY: You know who used to do that, who practiced for hours before making a speech? And I'm not making any comparison here. So, don't -- you crazy left-wing websites out there, it's not a comparison. Adolf Hitler. Adolf Hitler practiced for hours, all of his --
REIMAN: Well, he was a nonverbal -- yeah.
O'REILLY: -- all of his gestures and everything else before he went out there. So, if you practice your gestures, and then you get out there and you screw them up, you just -- you should just be natural.
REIMAN: Well, his nonverbals were quite different. I mean, he had powerful --
O'REILLY: But let's get back to Pelosi.
REIMAN: Yes -- right, yeah.
O'REILLY: She's not natural.
REIMAN: No, they don't come across as natural.
O'REILLY: It's stilted.

Right, and don't most speakers rehearse? It's all about effective presentation in order to persuade people, so that seems natural.
So we're analyzing body language in order to come to the supposition that she's rehearsed, which provokes a comparison to the most reviled man in the last millenium because he rehearsed, presumably because he wanted to be an effective speaker just like all speakers want to be. And when his guest tries to point out differences that weaken his point, then he changes the subject back.
I think the term "pinhead" is appropriate here.
I think the term "pinhead" is appropriate here.
Calling Bill O'Reilly a "pinhead" is unfair to all the pinheads in the world.
"One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! One of us!"
You gotta give credit to the movie title "Freaks." I might have just gone with Zippy to describe BOR.
Like O'Reilly, Hitler also bullied and scapegoated.
Hey, let's take it easy on Hitler, you guys. He has the highest-rated cable news show in America, and is more popular than ever among right-wing Americans. That's got to count for something.
To which I would have added, "Not that I'm making any comparison here"
Like Joseph Goebbels, billybob o'really is prolific at "slinging the dung". If I could get my hands on a german Enigma machine, I might be able to decipher billybob's BS. I am not willing to have a frontal lobotomy in order to understand the gutteral utterances from insannity's pie hole.
"I'm not making any comparisons here"
Does he actually expect anyone with to believe that? Of course he's making the comparison. Why on earth he would try to make us think otherwise especially after all his insipid comparisons of Kos to Nazis and the KKK. O'Reilly throws around these despicable comparisons on a regular basis. His disclaimer is nothing but bull.
So if he's not making any comparisons, why the hell bring it up?
"So if he's not making any comparisons, why the hell bring it up?"
Because its Bill O'Reilly? And because its Bill O'Reilly..... he can say whatever he wants.....
Unless of course you want me to call FoxSecurity on you for questioning Papa Bear's right to speak his mind??
............................................................................................. uh.......
nevermind!
Joe Cocker "uncoordinated"? If he was, he would have fallen over during his performances. Bill is such a 'spazz' - sorry to all in UK I might have offended.
You must understand the Joe Cocker comment is based on faucks facts. faucks facts are pulled out of the posterior orafice of g.w. babybush. I could go on but, I am watching tricky dickie morris on billybobs show and I can't stop laughing.
And rightfully so, don't you agree?
Yes, I think BO should be on it everyday, Another reason.
Sue, don't know if you noticed, but Obama made it on Kieth's list yesterday.
Yes it was Monday and was funny, I think Senator Obama forgot how many years he has been married? If I were Michelle I would yell at him. ;-)
Uh oh. You don't want to get Michelle angry. I hear she can be pretty black when she's angry.
I can tell from Bill's body language that he's a smug, self-aggrandizing thug. He also keeps making odd gestures with his hands during this segment. Who else used his hands alot while speaking? I'm not making a comparison to Hitler, mind you, but Bill "Hitler" O'Reilly is exactly like Hitler. I just hope no one Godwins this thread.
I just hope no one Godwins this thread.
That sounds kind of like the Nazi slogan circa 1939, don't you think?
Yes, I think it came along shortly after "Strength Through Joy" and just before "looking out for you."
Sure as hell does, it is scary actually
billybob o'hitlery. Kind of catchy if u ask me. I could get sued by that Thornton guy.
'I'm not making any comparisons...' So, let's compare! You know, I'm glad Bill brought this up. I remember oh-so-many years ago (4) when my public speaking teacher always started class with her famous mantra- 'Class! Remember, don't EVER EVER EVER practice a speech beforehand. EV-ER!! The last thing you want to happen while trying to be persuasive is for the dumb as dirt, lying sexual predator audience member to think you come across as Hitleresque. Yes, those people are one in a billion, but it is important to take into consideration that you need to speak to the most base level of ALL people. I suggest just sticking to fart jokes and making fun of gay people- for some reason, that always gets a rise in the masses'.
And we ALL know what happens when someone speaks without preparing their remarks beforehand......
I would like him to yell at me in a dark alley. I would oinch the pus out of his pinhead.
pinch
I like oinch better.
I like oinch better.
But if you give some people an oinch, they take a mile. :-)
Ounch.
I say it that Pelosi's speech was administrative in its quality at best. It was a good C+/B- speech. If (insert your small town's name) would have given it you might have been impressed. But it was not even close to something that could stoke the fires of World War.
If the Republicans were that offend by it I find them laughably thin-skinned. Or maybe just laughable.
Sorry I meant "I'll say it"
Don't sweat it, ufleirx. Typos and skewed syntax is common when we get too excited. I am so upset with the stuff I read from MMFA that I actually stutter at the keyboard. Spittle is also not good for your computer. Today I am going the buy one of those little white face-masks construction workers use. Ooops, there goes my coffee!
You know who else is named Bill? William Gordon Turner. I'm not making any comparison here, but that guy is a convicted rapist and pedophile. And you know who else is named Bill? William Joseph Greer. I'm not making any comparison here, but I just saw a profile on this murderer on America's Most Wanted. As a matter of fact there's a bunch of guys named Bill or William on their website, but I'm not making any comparisons here, so don't all you crazy, no spinners out there start saying I am because I'm clearly not. I'm just picking interesting things out of the air for no reason at all. La, la, la.
O'Reilly's a white guy. You know who else is a white guy? Hitler. Plus he's Irish, and you have all those guys in the IRA. He grew up on Long Island. Amy Fisher was from Long Island.
This "not making comparisons" game is incredibly informative!
It really saddens me that Media Matters has to give a forum to jack-asses like Bill O'Reilly and Michael Savage. Only their large numbers of brain-dead fans keep them from being ignored. I actually know people who get their "news" from jerks like them. Admitted, O'Reilly is Chet Huntley compared to Savage, but JEEZE, give me a break! (I realize that my analogy will mean nothing to anyone under the age of 60, but I couldn't resist. Ask your mommies and daddies.) I like to wonder where Dante would place these guys.
Any antagonistic guests of O'Reilly's should play off of this without mercy. Anything O'Reilly brings up should be related to Hitler.
"You can't make an omelet without breaking eggs" "You know who liked omelets? Hitler."
"Boehner is a stand-up guy" "You know who used to stand up a lot? Hitler."
Of course microphone feeds will be cut, but such is the price of great comedy.
Umm, doesn't EVERYONE practice a speech for a while before they give one?
Isn't that what you are taught to do in speech class?
pure trife
You know who used to have friends like Bill O'Reilly spewing hate-filled propaganda on the public airwaves every night? Adolf Hitler. I'm not making any comparison here. I'm just sayin'.
Like Hitler, Billo rehearses before major speeches.
Dam its about time someone compared a leftest to Hitler, thats refreshing for a change.
Where you been, its all the rage in wingnut circles.
Gittin to be a lot of fuzziness on some hot words, take a bow.
For me I wonder at the speaker/writers enthusiasm for totalitarianism and who they want in the catbird seat.
Heh! Crazy as it sounds, extremist wingnuts like David Horowitz are making films and publishing propaganda that attempt to portray Hitler as a left-winger! LOL.
I suppose when you think about it, for far-right Zionists, it must bring up some uncomfortable comparisons to share the same ideological wing as the man who now provides them with their best defense....the charge of anti-semitism, with Horowitz being particularly quick on the draw with "Anti-Semite!" bomb.
Actually, after watching BILLO and his opinions of intollerance, I would say that he is closer to HITLER,( especially in terms of ideology.) than PELOSI.
when i did not have a job, I used to practice for hours, in front a of a mirror for some interview I may have in future.
Never knew I had a Hitler in me. I am so ashamed.
I do hope that the Obama administration will look into FCC regulations which seem to encourage the spawning of hate-spewing "talk shows" and "no spin" zones characterized by the likes of Limbaugh, Hannity, O'Reilley, Savage, Hewitt et. al. ad nauseum. If it (the FCC) has rules that permit it to fine a network for inadvertently allowing its audience a glimpse of nipple, surely there should be rules that would permit it to either fine or pull the license of networks whose shows clearly aim to incite hatred and violence.
Of course, in a land where lawmakers try to impeach a president for getting some head while "taking off the table" the threat of impeaching a president for lying us into war, I very much doubt that my hope will be realized.
Maybe youneed to aim lower and get some practice first, in achieving that goal.. why not try impeaching, oh... say.. a speaker of the house whose husband gets money from her PAC for his business? LOL
Maybe YOU need to aim lower, Miss De Point, and post messages that stick to the topic and advance the conversation - not worthless crap posts (like the above one) that do nothing but inject the "Right Wing Talking Point Of The Day" into the thread.
You might also want to actually RESPOND to what people post in response to your drivel.
I'm not certain of this of course, but Pelosi's statement regarding no charges being brought against the administration may be only to delay charging them with very serious crimes after they no longer hold the reins of power. Myself, I wouldn't put it past them to stage an attack or some other reason that allows them to impose martial law in the US, suspending elections while destroying evidence of their crimes, killing witnesses under the guise of executing traitors, torturing confessions out of people that give credence to the claims they used to impose martial law, etc. etc. Like myself, Pelosi might see just how dangerous the PNAC actually is/was.
Your comments about the FCC and the "spawning of hate-filled 'talk shows' and 'no spin' zones", etc. are completely understandable. However, the United States has this , er, policy called "no censorship", backed by the 1st Amendment. We are prohibited, by law, from disallowing ANY kind of speech in our press, TV, radio, or even public parks. It is up to the PUBLIC, by rising up from it's apathy, to choke off these slime-balls at the pocket book. Don't watch or listen or read their trash, don't buy the products advertised, and just freeze them out. We DO have the right to do that! Unfortunately, I don't see that happening. These hateful people have been around since the crystal set.
I'm not making any comparisons here but do you know who else used to use media such as radio to disseminate biased, misleading and derogatory information to promote or publicise a particular political cause or point? JOSEPH GOEBBLES!!!!!
I don't want to make any comparisons, okay. But do you know who had two eyes, two ears, a nose, and was also a man, just like O'Reilly is? You guessed it. I don't even have to say his name but you all know who I'm talking about.
funny how he accuses pelosi of the exact thing that FOX news is famous for.
