On the October 8 broadcast of Minneapolis' The Chris Baker Show, KTLK hosts Chris Baker and Langdon Perry agreed that "Magic faked AIDS," referring to former basketball star Earvin "Magic" Johnson, who announced in 1991 that he had tested HIV-positive.

During the program, a caller stated: "What you run into is -- you run into this idea, the same way that in education we want to make all the dumb people smart even though it's impossible -- their IQ limits them -- and we're going to spend all this money to try to do something that's impossible. And you -- it's a waste of time, and you get frustrated employees, frustrated workers with all these demands to do something they can't possibly do." Perry replied: "What about diseases that are eminently treatable and you can live with for a long, long time quite healthily if you just get some basic drugs?" Baker interjected, "like Magic Johnson," to which Perry replied, "Like Magic with his faked AIDS." After Baker asked, "You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?" Perry stated, "I'm convinced that Magic faked AIDS." Baker replied, "Yeah, me too." Perry added: "It falls apart when you get into motivation. I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty sure he faked AIDS. ... Cause he's the only cured AIDS guy ever."

From the October 8 broadcast of KTLK's The Chris Baker Show:

CALLER: What you run into is -- you run into this idea, the same way that in education we want to make all the dumb people smart even though it's impossible -- their IQ limits them -- and we're going to spend all this money to try to do something that's impossible. And you -- it's a waste of time, and you get frustrated employees, frustrated workers with all these demands to do something they can't possibly do.

BAKER: There you go. All right, thanks.

PERRY: What about diseases that are eminently treatable and you can live with for a long, long time quite healthily if you just get some basic drugs?

BAKER: Like Magic Johnson.

PERRY: Like Magic with his faked AIDS. Magic faked AIDS.

BAKER: You think Magic faked AIDS for sympathy?

PERRY: I'm convinced that Magic faked AIDS.

BAKER: Yeah, me too.

PERRY: It falls apart --

BAKER: Which is horrible.

PERRY: -- when you get into motivation. I'm not sure why, but I'm pretty sure he faked AIDS.

BAKER: I've got a great email here from --

PERRY: 'Cause he's the only cured AIDS guy ever.

Radio Station Regrets Remarks on Magic Johnson, AIDS

          Friday, October 10, 2008

MINNEAPOLIS —  A Minneapolis radio station said it will air public service announcements on HIV/AIDS after a pair of talk hosts accused former NBA great Magic Johnson of faking AIDS.

KTLK's Chris Baker and Langdon Perry made the remarks during Baker's conservative talk show on Wednesday. After Johnson condemned the statements, the station said on Friday it regretted "some off-hand remarks" by the pair.

I am also convinced the Magic faked AIDS.  Anyone with half a brain is convincd he faked it.  How can he come out in 1992 and say he has AIDS and in an interview with Jet magazine in 1995 say he has been cured when there is no cure?  He faked it for publicity and any sane person would be able to see it for what it is.

But what boon did he receive from "faking" AIDS?

Isn't it just possible for a moment to think that with his high level income, access to the best doctors in the world, and lots of money to spend on AIDS drugs, new protocols and things like that, that indeed, it is possible for him to stay well for a long time?

No.  He said he was cured and did not have AIDS anymore.  The financial boon came from coming out of retirement.  By doing this his popularity actually increased, more Magic Johnson novelties were sold and more endorsements came his way.  One thing good that did come from it is that it did bring a major awareness to the disease, but he still lied.

I remember that.  He could still play very well but the sporting aspect was removed because everyone was backing off of him on defense.  He very much wanted to continue his career but eventually it became obvious that he was altering the competitive dynamics of the games he played in, in an artificial or non-basketball way.  If I remember correctly it was at this time that the league introduced a rule to stop the game when anyone was seen to be bleeding, to have the player get bandaged to minimize the chances of infecting other players regardless of their standing health wise.

As to the why he has stayed so relatively healthy, I would speculate that his physical constitution may have had something to do with it.  To get to the highest level of a very physical sport and dominate, he had to have some pretty good genes.  Maybe he had some positively correlated disease fighting genes.

Also he was a very much a positive thinker personality wise.  He did what was needed to win.  He made his teammates play much better; the whole became greater than the sum of the parts.  (Bird was doing the same thing contemporaneously with Boston which made for one of the greatest rivalries in sports.)  He deferred to Jabbar's ego.  He did whatever it took to win.  That same drive may have had a positive psychosomatic effect on his HIV.

Your financial gain talk is a crock of s***.  But maybe you were thinking about his wife...

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Powerful drugs have reduced the AIDS virus in Magic Johnson's body to undetectable levels, his doctors said Friday...

''The Lord has definitely healed Earvin,'' the basketball star's wife, Cookie Johnson, said in an interview in the latest Ebony magazine. Doctors ''think it's the medicine. We claim it in the name of Jesus.''

magic's coming out of retirement was brief, and he could have earned far more money as an active player, because he was only 32 at the time of his announcement and easily could have played years more.

and him saying he was "cured" is a complete falsehood.  he's always been clear never to say that, as this article from 2006 points out.

I have not read anywhere that Johnson had "AIDS".  You need to show that is indeed the case.  It looks like you are just making stuff up.

Some people are HIV positive and for whatever reason do not become infected with full-blown "AIDS".  That preconception seems to be a holdover from the 1980's thinking when much less was known about the two conditions.

No.  He said he was cured and did not have AIDS anymore.

WHY would a man who was the most popular and accomplished played in NBA history, fake AIDS? Why would a man who got more free, no strings ****y, cut it off by declaring he had AIDS? Money? Please, you've got to be brain dead. Magic had money, popularity and women coming out of his ears, he damn well didn't need to "fake" AIDS.

You really need to educate yourself.

Today, Johnson, 47, looks so healthy some may question whether AIDS is the menace it was made out to be.

That's one of the myths Johnson says he will have to dispel if he's going to succeed in perhaps his most ambitious venture of all, a $60 million partnership with the drug firm Abbott that aims to cut AIDS rates among African-Americans by 50% in the next five years.

"Since I announced 15 years ago, hundreds of thousands of people have died of HIV/AIDS," he says. "There will be more people dying. The virus acts different in all of us. There's no certainty that if you get the virus, you're going to be OK."

"Just last night, I did a seminar with a group of high school girls," Myisha Patterson, 25, national health coordinator for the NAACP, said Thursday. "I had them write down three things they knew about HIV/AIDS. Somebody wrote, 'There's a cure for AIDS. Look at Magic Johnson.' "

Johnson says he's anything but cured. He says he owes his well-being — and quite possibly his life — to the multidrug cocktail he takes everyday.

                http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2006-11-30-magic-aids_x.htm

And he is in excellent health, according to Dr. Michael Mellman, Johnson's personal physician for the past 20 years.

"There's nothing experimental, nothing high-tech," Mellman said of Johnson's medication. "Anyone who can afford health care can afford what he's doing. He's as healthy as he looks."

As for the future, "we have no idea," Mellman said. "AIDS and the virus have only been around a couple decades. Ten years ago, we didn't know what to expect, so there were no expectations, only questions. I'll take every 10 years he gets, and hope we don't get surprised along the way."

There are a lot of people who are HIV + who never develop full-blown AIDS.  This remains a medical mystery.

There is an experimental technique that I have read about and is prohibitively expensive and doesn't actually cure aids. It is blood replacement. In the technique all the blood is removed from the body and replaced with plasma which is run through the entire circulatory system almost like when you have your transmission or fuel lines flushed in a car. When the system is washed the blood is replace with new blood of either your regular type of the universal blood type. Each time this is done the level of HIV virus is greatly reduced. It must be done repeatedly. In the beginning on a weekly basis, to catch the virus before it reproduces, than bi-weekly, monthly, etc. This in combination with anti HIV drugs reduces the level of the virus to where it is eventually undetectable. Each time the process is done it cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. This is probably what Magic Johnson had done to himself.

I dont know if Magic faked the HIVy, but if I ever had to catch THE AIDS, I want the kind Magic caught. His AIDS made him fatter and richer.

OK, before I get bludgeoned by the humorless PC crowd, I think the guys on the radio were kidding, making a joke, you know humor. I think it is a pretty well known fact now that with the proper regimen of meds, HIV can be chronic yet treatable disease. Magic has tons of money and the best doctors in the world at his disposal, so that is why it appears as if MJ has beaten HIV. But I would imagine if he were to stop taking his medical cocktails the virus would rear its ugly head again.

I too agree that magic faked AIDS.  Unless the government has a cure that only  rich people have access to he faked it.  Really who lives this long with AIDS.  It's not about having a heart or not.  Facts are facts you can live a pretty normal life with HIV/AIDS but I seriously doubt you live 15 - 20 years with it.  Magic is probably outraged because someone call him on his lies.......!

Actually, You can live 15-20 years with it, even more!!  I am a nurse and I have seen patients that were diagnosed with HIV, watched it progress to full blown AIDS, and watched them live several more years with the use of proper medication.  The longest I have personally seen someone live with HIV/AIDS is 28 years.  This was someone who didn't have the financial resources that Magic has.  Now, I will go out on a limb and say that most of you on here aren't faking having IDS.  Thats right, I believe that those of you on here who would stoop so low as to speak ill of Magic is suffering from IDS.  Intelligents Deficiency Syndrome!!!  I can't believe that grown adults would carry on this way...with adults like you its no wonder our youth act the way they do!!!  To those of you who have made comments on Magic lying even have any education on the topic?...or are you just going on myths.  My suggestion to each of you prior to discussing somthing would be to GET EDUCATED!!!

One last thing, allow me to say:  It is better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool than to open it and remove all doubt!!!

        Have a great day:)'

LEAVE THE ANNOUNCER ALONE! The man (Magic) made literally millions selling his story of how many women he slept with and…………………oh poor guy contracted AID in the process. Has anyone even heard of the term False/Positive testing? If Chris Rock would have said the same damn thing in front of Magic, it would have been perceived as hilarious! Magic, needs to “MAN UP” , suck it up and leave well enough alone, it’s not like even if he ever tested positive for AID’s ,that he was like born with it from some drug addicted parent, an unforeseen blood donation with AID’s contaminated blood given to some real innocent person through a life saving process of a blood transfusion or from a war ravaged, corrupt country that can’t even afford to protect innocent lives from the virus. Magic makes me sick!

I implore media matters to stop promoting this man by showing his face daily.  This is not real media and he doesn't matter, but you are making him matter. Or at least promote loss of advertising revenue to this pig. Something - I am so tempted to not read your site anymore because I keep seeing his crap.

I believe that Majicn Johnson was health by God from the AIDS.  The problem with people is that you are so busy hating that you lack faith to believe that good thinks can happen to people who beieve that there is a God.  To the two radio hosts I think that you should be taken off the air.  Remember igronance is not bliss.

Perhaps Messrs Baker and Perry will put thier money where thier mouths are and take a blood transfusion from Magic Johnson if the blood type are compatable! If not, how about some other direct exposure to Magic Johnson's blood. Hmmmm. Let see them take that one on. I'm all for that! Who's with me. Perhaps we can get a campaign going and a wager whether the 2 fools contract HIV!

Typical liberal tripe. You ever notice that the liberals are constantly whining about freedom of speech, but the minute someone says something they find insulting they should be fired. The left wants us to have rights that only they believe in. Case in point, the left does not want us to have the ability to protect ourselves, hunt, or discharge a weapon for sport. Why? Because they do not believe in the right to bear arms and what that stands for. We have the right to speak freely, even if it is a conservative talk show host stating his belief that Magic Johnson faked AIDS. Just the same as when the liberal media spews forth their verbal diarrhea.

there is so much wrong with this that I don't even know where to start!  first of all Magic was a professtional athlet who made a LOT of money, his illness was detected soon enough and he has enough money to pay for the "cocktails" as they are called to treat said illness.  let us remember that when he was found to be sick he had HIV, that is NOT the same as AIDS. and HIV if treated soon enough is treatable.  these radio jerks should be fired, fined and flogged!  what they just commited is called slander! they should be ashamed!

I really hope the radio station fires the two.  Why wonder there is a new hike in young kids with HIV and AIDS.  People still face discrimination in society from obtuse comments like this.  This is a serious issue, not some lame joke from two ignorant small minded bigots.

This was just brought to my attention when I logged on to MSN. It amazes me that in 2008 there are a huge population of people who think they are safe from contracting the HIV/AIDS virus. In their small minds, it's a disease that only "those people" are vulnurable to. Everybody who has "it" must be deserving of contracting "it" because of their undesirable behavior (and or morals). I never realized how sophisticated this little deadly virus was to know the difference between races, morals, intelligence and economic statis. That's the reasoning I assume ignorant people like radio talk show host's (Baker & Perry) are coming from. It's all a big joke on all the highly intelligent folks who are super safe from ever contracting this sad and deadly disease. Why should it be of any concern that Magic Johnson is still alive and trying to take care of himself, so thats the reason why he is still here? He's not fighting for his life daily and trying his best to live day by day because of his healthcare and medication (probably about 15-20 pills a day). And he has the nerve to be a successful business man despite the fact that he's one of "those people". Just so everybody knows...HIV/AIDS is a virus that infects PEOPLE, not just the undesirables of our society, who in their eyes are either "faking it" or "deserve it". Heaven forbid that those two "baby wipes" become educated about this virus because someone close to them contracts it (due to unprotected sex). I really think that an apology is "faking it" to save their jobs. I would like them to do some community service at an AIDS service center in their town. About six months worth! Enough said about two dummy's with a mic.

And they saved the best for last on the article I read:

"Johnson, 49, said his health is "wonderful." He also noted that he has HIV, not AIDS."

Just as we suspected.  Kind of hard to fake having AIDS when Johnson didn't even claim he had it in the first place.

ok, correct me if i'm wrong, cuz if i'm right, we have a lot of ignorant people on our hands.  also, my apologies to those of you who may have posted this already.  anyway, did magic ever say he HAD AIDS?  i've never heard this.  what i've heard is that he had HIV.  HIV is the virus that causes AIDS, which is why he had to constantly have his white blood cells checked, etc.  as far as i know, he's just had the resources to maintain a healthy lifestyle and the medical support to keep his white blood cells low enough so that the HIV wouldn't develop into AIDS.  people can live a long life with HIV, can't they?  so, why is he or why would he fake it?  because he didn't want to play basketball anymore and win championships with kareem?  because he wanted his wife to possibly leave him?  because running a movie theater business is better than feeding the ball to a talented team?  because he wanted to try coaching the lakers instead of running with them?  unreal.
