Baker: Media have "blood on their hands" for murder of transgender woman because they created "false sense of reality"
Discussing the murder of Moses Cannon, a transgender woman, Minneapolis radio host Chris Baker suggested that "some of the blame lie[s] with the American media who enables this fraud" and who "push this false reality." He also stated: "I believe the media and the rest of the enablers out there, they have this guy's blood on their hands because they create this false sense of reality and they enable people who need serious psychological counseling."

During the November 18 broadcast of his Minneapolis radio show, Chris Baker said of the November 14 murder of a transgender woman who reportedly went by the name Latiesha Green: "I believe that the fault, and I know, 'cause already I'm seeing quotes and comments and, 'Oh, it's hate. It's a hate crime. It's a horrible hate crime.' Doesn't some of the blame lie with the American media who enables this fraud?" Baker added: "I would say a majority of the blame does not lie with the nitwit that shot him, other than the fact that he's a nitwit and a guy who should have been in prison in my opinion, who shot him. But to me, this is the -- this is an example of how, by enabling people and trying to push this false reality, leads to horrible crimes like this."
Later in the show, Baker discussed the case again, stating that "this guy is a murderer and should go to jail. ... But I personally believe that by the media and all these other people out there enabling these people that they put people like this at risk, because they give them the boldness, the confidence, the -- to decide, 'Well, you know what? I'm a girl. Even though I'm not a girl, I'm a girl. And the media will call me a girl, so, therefore, I can walk into any party I want. I can go anywhere I want.' " Baker also stated: "I believe the media and the rest of the enablers out there, they have this guy's blood on their hands because they create this false sense of reality and they enable people who need serious psychological counseling."
Syracuse's WSYR-TV reported on November 17 that Dwight DeLee had been charged with the crime, which occurred after Green attended a party, and that "Syracuse Police say they believe DeLee's motive was a dislike for [the victim's] sexual orientation."
During the show, Baker also discussed the appearance of Thomas Beatie, a pregnant transgender man, and his wife, Nancy, on the November 17 edition of CNN's Larry King Live. During the interview, King asked the Beaties: "Did he get pregnant right out of the box?" Baker repeatedly aired the audio of this portion of the interview, responding, "It's a she, Larry. ... It's a she." Moreover, Baker called the Beaties "mental cases" and referred to Thomas Beatie as a "mutilated lesbian."
As Media Matters for America documented, Baker also called Beatie a "mutilated lesbian" on the November 14 edition of his show. He also stated: "If a lesbian gets pregnant, I'm fine with it. I'm OK. Just stop alternating reality and trying to force me to buy into your psychosis."
From the November 18 broadcast of KTLK's The Chris Baker Show:
BAKER: Last night on Larry King -- we're gonna play you some audio. Last night on Larry King, he had the mutilated lesbian on, and they described how the mutilated lesbian got pregnant, where this whole thing came from, why they did it, and then -- you know, some of the, some of the -- here, by the way, here's my favorite question from Larry King.
KING [audio clip]: Did he get pregnant right out of the box?
BAKER: You can't beat that.
PERRY: Well, technically, Larry --
BAKER: Atta boy, Larry.
KING [audio clip]: Did he get pregnant right out of the box?
PERRY: Did he get pregnant right out of -- you -- technically, Larry, here's how it worked.
BAKER: Oh, God. You can't -- Larry King is -- this guy. How can --
PERRY: I bet he didn't even see the humor in that.
BAKER: How you could do an interview with these two mental cases -- all right. Look, I -- if -- look, if you're gay, you're gay. Good for you, all right. But -- and then I'm gonna dovetail this into another story, and this is where the conversation we have to get into.
There's a very sad story about a transgender man. It's a guy who thinks he's a woman, just so we clarify. Shows up to a party and some guy with an extensive criminal record, by the way, and a history of weapons charges, shot him, killed him -- terrible story. My question is: One, why is this guy with the extensive prison record, or shall we say, criminal record, and extensive list of weapons charges, why is he not in jail in the first place?
Second of all, I believe that the fault, and I know, 'cause already I'm seeing quotes and comments and, "Oh, it's hate. It's a hate crime. It's a horrible hate crime." Doesn't some of the blame lie with the American media who enables this fraud? Doesn't some of the blame -- I would say a majority of the blame does not lie with the nitwit that shot him, other than the fact that he's a nitwit and a guy who should have been in prison in my opinion, who shot him. But to me, this is the -- this is an example of how, by enabling people and trying to push this false reality, leads to horrible crimes like this, by -- by telling people, "Oh, well, you know, he -- did he get pregnant?"
KING [audio clip]: Did he get pregnant right out of the box?
BAKER: No. It's a she, Larry.
KING [audio clip]: Did he get pregnant right out of the box?
BAKER: It's a she.

BAKER: So annoying for me, but there's a story today, it's a very -- it's a horrible story from Syracuse, New York. A guy's been charged with murder after he shot two people last week. One of them was a transgender person. So, now, they're talking about hate crime charges, things like that. Look, this guy is a murderer and should go to jail. This guy should be punished to the fullest extent of the law.
But I personally believe that by the media and all these other people out there enabling these people that they put people like this at risk, because they give them the boldness, the confidence, the -- to decide, "Well, you know what? I'm a girl. Even though I'm not a girl, I'm a girl. And the media will call me a girl, so, therefore, I can walk into any party I want. I can go anywhere I want. I can demand whatever I want and no one can stop me because the media is going to call me a girl."
Well, guess what? In my opinion, other than the fact that the guy that allegedly murdered this guy -- and this guy I'm talking about would be the transgender guy. I promise I'm just getting this off my chest. This is just driving me nuts.
I believe the media and the rest of the enablers out there, they have this guy's blood on their hands because they create this false sense of reality and they enable people who need serious psychological counseling. I mean, what guy in his right mind would have his stuff cut off? Now, there's a lot of women in their right mind that would like to do that to a guy, but what guy in his right mind wants to have his stuff cut off? What woman in her right mind wants to have her breasts removed? I mean, do they notice the millions of dollars women spend every year in this country to get bigger ones?
This whole thing is -- it's just infuriating to me. You know why? Because I gotta explain this to my kids.

Sounds like the anti-abortion wackos who would denounce the shooting of a doctor but then in the same breath say "at lesst he won't be able to kill anymore babies." Just the cons' way of shifting the blame...
I'm bold and confident and when my friends SAY I am to others, if I get killed by a nutcase because of my confidence, then, dammit, it's OBVIOUSLY my FREINDS' fault for saying I am what I 'yam...
Let's start by holding this idiot's feet to the fire. He certainly helped enable the flames of intolerance that led to this murder.
Ed Zachary!
First off: ALL HUMAN BEINGS HAVE THE GOD-GIVEN RIGHT NOT TO BE SHOT AND KILLED. That this can be debated, ever, by anyone, is absurd. I don't care what xhe did, or how xhe lived, whatever/however IT WAS NOT A CAPITAL OFFENSE!!!
Second, you're absolutely right: These people suffer because of the unecessary judgement and intolerance of others. Their childeren suffer because the intolerant teach intolerance to their kids. If you think it's "wrong" to get a sex-change, don't get one. If you think it's "wierd" then your obviously comfortable with your gender (as the vast majority of people are) and thus wouldn't be a cadidate for the procedure anyway. If you think it's a "sin against God" or whaterver... you're entitled to speak (preach) your opinion, but that's it. You are still required, by law, to respect that persons Constitutional right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. If you don't agree with that? YOU ARE VERY UN-AMERICAN!
Personally? I'll admit that I just don't get it. I don't understand it. BUT, unlike these jack-holes, I actually talk to people about it, and know people going through it, and endevour to enlighten myself before forming an opinion about the person one way or the other. It clearly harms no one. I just seek a better understanding of what the individuals thoughts, feelings and expectations are. That's the part that I'll freely admit I don't understand. (How could I relate to it? These aren't fellings that I've ever experienced! But that doesn't mean they can't exsist in someone else!)
In the meantime, I'm not going to run my mouth about it like these people do!!!
Baker is channeling his guru from the dead, Jerry Falwell.
(Remember when that fat theocratic bigot blamed humanists, gays, etc. for 9-11?)
"I would say a majority of the blame does not lie with the nitwit that shot him, other than the fact that he's a nitwit and a guy who should have been in prison in my opinion, who shot him. But to me, this is the -- this is an example of how, by enabling people and trying to push this false reality, leads to horrible crimes like this."
Doesn't all of the blame lie with this "nitwit". If you are assigning blame to anyone in the media, why not the intolerant a**holes on talk radio?
As SDL pointed out above, they're perfectly willing to excuse anyone who does their "wet work" for them, while offering a token condemnation so they won't appear to be the blood-lusting bigots they are. That way, when an Eric Rudolph blows up an abortion clinic and a nurse gets maimed, they can rhetorically have their cake and eat it too--claim they're above violence while actually reveling in it. I have no doubt that off-mic, Baker was cheering the murderer while chiding him on-mic...
"This whole thing is -- it's just infuriating to me. You know why?"
Because you're an idiot.
Rwing 101 - blame the victim.
That's the point, rob; they don't see the victim--in this case, Moses Cannon--as a real victim. Even if they don't say so--and Baker doesn't say it, although it's clearly on the tip of his tongue--the victim actually deserves his/her fate. The "real" victim, as they see it, is themselves for having to live in the same world with the actual victim and their ilk. Baker sees himself as a victim for having to share the world with transgendered people, thus (at least privately) sees the killer as some sort of hero. Can't say that of a murderer, though, so he does the next best thing; issue a tepid "condemnation" while focusing his real outrage at the people he thinks are victimizing him--in this case, the media whose acceptance of transgendered people forces him to share the world with them.
Mr. Baker and those who produce and distribute his show have blood on their hands for spreading and furthering the fear and hatred of transgender people, and the history books will show these bigoted morons for what they are.
Baker: They enable people who need serious psychological counseling ...
========================================================
Ah, wingnut projection at its finest ...
Nature has it's way. Polydactylism occurs 1 in 500 births, and conjoined twins about 1 in 200,000. I'm guessing these people are living in a "false reality" as well. But hey, I'm sure some "serious psychological counseling" would do them a world of good.
And of course beetles, fruit bats, dolphins, orangutans, penguins, ostriches, etc.... have all been observed in homosexual acts. But of course, it was a choice they made and the enablers and media gave them a false sense of reality as well.
"This whole thing is -- it's just infuriating to me. You know why? Because I gotta explain this to my kids."
WTF? "The worst thing about the senseless murder of an American citizen based on their sexual orientation is the fact that I then have to admit and explain that sexual orientation's existence to my children."
It's time for "the media" to "do the right thing" and consider Chris Baker's lack of parenting and communication skills before they incite any more violence against people of different sexual orientations by not heaping scorn and ridicule on them.
You failed to protect Moses Cannon by not shaming him into keeping his true feelings on the inside, media. I'd like to punch you in your collective metaphysical face!
