EMBED

On the December 16 edition of Fox & Friends, co-host Steve Doocy said of Caroline Kennedy: "[I]t sounds like she did call up and speak to the governor of the Empire State of New York, David Paterson, within the last week or so, to essentially tell him, OK, these are my qualifications. And what she said was that she's been involved in charity work, education, and she is a constitutional lawyer." Moments later, co-host Brian Kilmeade asked: "Is that American Constitution?" Doocy responded, "I'm hoping. Sure -- runs in the family."

Kennedy has a law degree from Columbia Law School and has co-written two books about the U.S. Constitution.

The exchange about Kennedy occurred several days after co-host Gretchen Carlson declared on the December 11 edition of Fox & Friends: "I'm all for free speech and free rights, just not on December 25th."

From the December 16 edition of Fox News' Fox & Friends:

GRETCHEN CARLSON (co-host): I believe Caroline Kennedy will become the next senator from New York.

DOOCY: I mean, it sounds like she did call up and speak to the governor of the Empire State of New York, David Paterson, within the last week or so, to essentially tell him, OK, these are my qualifications. And what she said was that she's been involved in charity work, education, and she is a constitutional lawyer. Now Hillary Clinton's critic -- supporters rather --

KILMEADE: Is that American Constitution?

DOOCY: I'm hoping.

KILMEADE: Oh, OK.

DOOCY: Sure -- runs in the family. Hillary's supporters say, "What's going on with this? She's got no experience."

        Sure you have pete....

It's that 240 year old piece of paper that the Bush crime family used as a door mat and then banished from her home!

I heard that it used to outline how the government was meant to work and how the president was an equal branch to the other two... at least.... that's what I remember...it's been so long since those days... hard to remember.

Well... perhaps someday soon... it will find its way home...

Don't forget that Kilmeade is the same dunce who proposed that the Bush Administration set up an office of censorship to control what the press reports.

Looks like he and the other F&F fools should do themselves (and their audience) a favor by actually learning about the Constitution and getting informed with regards to the accomplishments of Ms. Kennedy before they attempt to discuss these things.

The truth of the matter is that the hosts of F&F are nothing more than uninformed GOP shills.

I'm having some trouble figuring out what Kilmeade's point is.  It's not serious, but it's seems like it's supposed to be one of those "funny-because-there's-some-truth-in-it" things.  Is it hard to believe that Democrats are interested in the Constitution, like they're "un-american"?  Or is the Kennedy clan perceived as somehow foreign?

Or, more likely, is it just a stupid knee-jerk reaction to talking about the dreaded Kennedys, without any thought process involved whatsoever?

Brab, don't waste your time trying to understand wingnut humor. I've been there, trying to be open-minded, thinking it just had a different "flavor" that I had to figure out. I finally figured that most of it is the exact opposite of real humor, built on fiction and intended to afflict the afflicted and comfort the comfortable.

Primitive Pavlovian responses based on fear and ignorance. That's where the laughs are.

Here we go again. These same wingnuts who pretend to hate those "Washington Insiders", and mock  "career politicians" when they're Dems, when presented with a relatively fresh face with the education andintelligence lacking in our current leadership, suddenly all they care about is "experience", and the respect goes to all those who've spent decades sitting in some government office. Well, the Republican ones, at least. F**&^in phonies.

Well since the Republican base is inured to titular authority, then that just shows these ingrates like Kilmeade know their Fox audience well.

Now the dicotomy of why they only care about Republican's experience, has to be attributed to said audiences vastly nuanced thought processes. And their vast understanding of reality. Snark.

My question to Mr Kilmeade would be simple. Are you a journalist? People can debate if Caroline Kenendy is qualified, I believe she is. She is more qualified than Al Franken and he still may be in the Senate. She has done outstanding work for schools, I am sure she would be a tireless public servant.

Not to demean Caroline Kennedy, because I'm of the opinion she's be a fine Senator, but the comparison to Al Franken isn't quite fair.  Al Franken campaigned and (quite possibly) won the majority of support from the VOTERS.  More democratic than being appointed.  It's a similar argument of the difference between Barack Obama and Sarah Palin.  Obama won primaries, Palin was picked.  I can understand people complaining more about an underqualified appointee than an underqualified elected official.

I'm guessing that FOX & FOOLS is where they scraped up the "writers" for the painful "Half Hour News Hour", and they probably returned there after the HHNH met it's well-deserved fate.

Apparently, in the WingNut Lizard Brain Stem, it's "funny" to imply that Kennedy may be an expert in some other Constitution, like the Soviet Constitution, or some unnamed Socialist country.

I'm guessing, though;  it may just be a case of Troglodyte Tourettes.

      WITH?!

It was a joke, somewhat ironic, but not even a particularly good one.  (I doubt even Con's found it funny.  Most were prob thinking, "Can't you do any better than THAT?!")  Kilmeade's a doofus for making such a weak attempt at wit, but I don't think it qualifies as conservative mis-info.  (What, has this pushed the BlagObama conspiracy off of the front pages or something?)

When you can't attack a Dem's intellect, and if there's no scandal to be had, the only shot you've got left is to target their patriotism and "Americanness".

I know what you mean.  I guess I'm drawing a distinction between things that have an actual meaning and things that don't.  What is the effect of a very poorly-conceived joke that suggests she's un-american?  What does un-american even mean, specifically?  I just don't know what someone's going to take away from that vague slur as actual misinformation, unless that person is just so far out there that they wouldn't vote for a Democrat if you held a gun to their head to begin with.

It should be noted, I just find it more pitiful than effective, if it was really intended to be anything other than a stupid joke in the first place.

The Kennedys have had their moment. So have the Bushes, Clintons, Roosevelts, Harrisons and Adams.

After all, it's not like handing titles down from one generation to the next like the Brits. I like Caroline but there is no need to hand out Senate seats simply because of who she is. I'm sure there are many other qualified people in NY who would do well.
