Hours after being named Misinformer of the Year, Hannity awards Media Matters his "Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award"

December 17, 2008 5:56 pm ET

Hours after Media Matters named Sean Hannity its Misinformer of the Year, Hannity announced on his radio show that Media Matters was the "winner" of "our first-ever Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award." He added: "Now, this award goes to the group or the person that does more lying and smearing than your average left-wing Obamamania media supporter."

EMBED

Hours after Media Matters for America named Sean Hannity its 2008 Misinformer of the Year for promoting and embellishing a vast array of false and misleading claims about President-elect Barack Obama and attacking members of Obama's family, as well as Sen. Hillary Clinton and other progressives, Hannity announced during the December 17 broadcast of his radio show that Media Matters was the "winner" of "our first-ever Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award." He added: "Now, this award goes to the group or the person that does more lying and smearing than your average left-wing Obamamania media supporter."

Hannity also stated: "And by the way, as a prize, we are going to send you a loop tape of something that can inspire you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And we will give copies to all members of Media Matters that request it. And that is that you could listen 24 hours a day at work, in your car, at home, when you sleep -- you can listen to your leader." He then aired a compilation of audio clips of Obama statements that use the word "change."

Hannity also referred to the award as "our first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda PC Police Award."

From the December 17 broadcast of ABC Radio Networks' The Sean Hannity Show:

HANNITY: By the way, I want to make an announcement today, and we are going to announce the winner today of our first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award. That's right, our first-ever Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award. Now, this award goes to the group or the person that does more lying and smearing than your average left-wing Obamamania media supporter. So -- and this year, the winner goes to the group Media Matters. Media Matters is the winner of our Left-Wing Propaganda Obamamania Media Award, and it's a group -- radical, left-wing group funded by radical, left-wing millionaires -- which, by the way, has successfully deceived the IRS into granting them a tax-exempt status reserved for, by the way, nonprofit, nonpartisan charitable groups.

So, we say congratulations to the PC police, the propagandists, the misinformers. The Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Award goes to the group Media Matters. OK? I just wanted to send that out here today.

And by the way, as a prize, we are going to send you a loop tape of something that can inspire you 24 hours a day, seven days a week. And we will give copies to all members of Media Matters that request it. And that is that you could listen 24 hours a day at work, in your car, at home, when you sleep -- you can listen to your leader.

OBAMA [audio clip]: Change we seek. Change America. And this is what we need to change today. We're here because we still believe that change is possible. We're here because we know that we've never needed it more than we do right now. That's the change they need. She needs change today. They need change, Houston. Change in America does not happen from the top down, it happens from the bottom up. Remember, change doesn't happen from the top, it happens because of you. Are you really ready for change? Because if you are ready for change. If you are ready for change. If you are really ready. Something is wrong and something has to change. That's the change we want. If you are ready for change. If you are ready for change. That has to change. And by the way, they have to change their ways. Change. Change. Change. Because if you are ready for change. If you are ready for change. You and I together will change this country and change the world.

HANNITY: That is right, our first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda PC Police Award goes to the group Media Matters. Any member that requests that tape, so they can never be without the bumper sticker, the mantra, the chant, we'll send you a copy.

Ooooooo!  Better watch out, Media Matters.  You just messed with the wrong guy.  And you know how powerful the Right Honorable Sean Hannity is.  How are you possibly going to take on Hannity AND O'Reilly at the same time?  Oh, woe is me.

Sean Hannity is a little mama's boy.... my 14 year old daughter could kick his butt in an intellectual fight every day of the week and twice on Sunday!!

MMfA has nothing to worry about with the girly man!

But I do have a question for Hannity though.....

I thought that MMfA was in the tank for the Clintons and Soros.... until recently... Obama was never mentioned as having MMfA beinging in the tank for him...

Oh wait.... I get it... MMfA is in the tank for whichever Democrat/liberal/progressive that you fake outrage about and want to try and smear at any given time....

Got it Sean.... you really are the dumbest SOB on TV and radio! Of course... BillO is a close second?

Sean makes a number of predictable statements and charges without a single shred of proof to back up any of it.On the other hand,MM has a veritable avalanche of evidence in the form of transcripts of Mr.Hannity's show proving conclusively that he lies with utter abandon on a daily basis.I also found the "PC Police" label amusing. What is it with Conservatives and their love of the PC label?Am I to believe that they don't insist on their own standard of political correctness? They don't attempt to control the debate through use of language? Pu-lease.Why must we all refer to "Global Warming" now as "Climate Change" Sean? Why are pro Israeli "Terrorists" called "Freedom Fighters" by you and your little friends? Exactly correct.  Doesn't he realize the damage he does to himself when he actually mentions MMFA by name ?  Didn't he learn this lesson from BillO?  And as IRONY said he didn't provide even one single example.  Now his listeners will have to come here to find out more about it.  I always thought he was an unashamed liar, but not stupid.  Now I'm not so sure.

He is an unrepentent liar, has close associations with known perverts such as Dickie Morris and has Annie the Voter Fraud Lady on his show. Now why would I buy anything from advertisers who huckster their wares through an unrepentent liar who associates with perverts and frauds. Once an unrepentent liar always an unrepentent liar. The new title for the show should be "Seainne the Sissy Unrepentent Liar Show Who Associates With Perverts and Frauds". I hope I don't sound like Seannie the Sissy Unrepentent Liar.

and, BTW, there is an 800 lb. gorilla in Seanny's studio. I only heard this part of his show ,the very beginning, but it seems very interesting that there's no mention of MMFA naming him Misinformer of the Year.

Unless he mentioned that later in the show, why would he neglect to mention the obvious inspiration for his feeble, slapped-together response? Maybe because any decent person being accused of being a chronic liar, would use their time on the public airwaves to take the opportunity to refute those charges? That is, unless they knew the charges were indefensible.

Maybe because mentioning the MMFA award might cause a few of the not-yet-completely-Hannitized to visit this site and see the facts, moreso than just mentioning the site in general?

Man, you'd have to be an idiot to listen to this meathead for any reason except the laughs.Where is the usual troll invasion that happens whenever one of these guys mentions MMFA? Could it really happen, that even Hannity's audience have finally revved their vestigial brain stems up enough to see what a douchebag he is?

Did Sean Hannity ever establish any evidence that Teri Sciavo's husband did something to render his wife into a coma? During the Sciavo death watch he repeatedly suggested that Mr. Sciavo had caused his wife's vegetative state...without any supportive evidence, of course. He called for further investigation of Mr. Sciavo. Again...there was no evidence to support his suggestions of wrongdoing by Mr. Sciavo, which suggestions were designed by Hannity to render Mr. Sciavo in a bad light and to sway public support towards Teri Sciavo's parents.

Does this tactic sound vaguely familiar...such as the repeated suggestions of wrongdoing by Barack Obama that Hannity makes, again without supporting evidence, to perpetuate the false sense that Obama is a sinister character and to rob him of public support?

Only a person with some deep-rooted character flaw could, IMO, engage in such dishonest machinations. Yet I'm sure Hannity sees himself as the smear victim by MMFA...never ackowledging the smear tactics to which he is committed to hurt other people. The world is round, Sean...sometimes your own evil comes right back on you.

He's dumb. Wow.  That is just not a very nice thing to say.  I hope you feel good about yourself for calling him something a third grader might call a kid in class they don't like.

Hannity is quite the intellectual giant...

And you are?  Why do we have to cut him down?  Does it make you feel important or smart to say somebody else isn't the sharpest tool in the shed.  Sure he is not rocket scientist, but does it take a genious to connect the dots between relations and actually bring it up when everyone else just ignores it?

Seannie, the curious listeners will check in, find that they can actually read good writing and grammar on a political website, and perhaps see the light. Or not, but their hits still count. Thanks for the plug.

Really?  How much arrogance to you have to think that good writing and grammar makes this site worth anything?  Such huberous vitrial coming from this site.

Istead of attacking him why don't we think about whether or not this site has blindly supported Obama and whether or not progressive ideas are good for Amerca.  The right lost their way and spent too much shooting up the debt in poor form and they have suffered from it.  If the New York Governor would like to try his progessive tax plan great, give it a shot.  Let's tax everything and also extensively increase spending.

The big difference between this site and Hannity's radio show is that he is positive and stands for principles and ideas. He hammers them in everyday allowing some to think he is of lesser intelligence.  That's fine.  Hold your head high and think much of yourself.  But if the progessive ideas are so hot where are they?  I just see ad hominum attacks against conservative types here.  No ideas.  And if progessive ideas are so hot where are the progressives in Obama's administration?  He protrayed himself as an agent of prgessive change or is that just what you thought he ment.  I hope you are too upset when he decides to govern more hawkish more conservative than you expet.  Obama likes being in the limelight.  He likes being a president and he'll do what it takes to stay in power.

Are you for real...?  Hannity's radio show is non-stop negativity...Stop the Radical Barack Obama (after it was the Stop the Hillary Clinton Exprees or whatever he called it). Hannity's show is a continuous stream of misinformation and outright lies attacking and smearing anything and anyone who does not subscribe to his brand of right wing conservatism. Hannity has no shame...there is nothing he will not twist, distort or fabricate to support his narrative. MMFA has historically documented Hannity's dishonest rants, using transcripts and tapes of his very words. To try to defend Hannity, IMO, is not a question of a difference in politics...it is a character flaw.

            Thank you...I try.

Allow me to add more, as is my nature, on behalf of my fellow posters here on MMFA. We don't need MMFA to tell us that Sean Hannity is a chronic liar. While, admittedly, we often engage in silliness to amuse each other (and I am one of the worst offenders in that regard) if one regularly read the posts here one quickly discovers that this is a pretty erudite crowd. We read history and legitimate investigative journalism. We are knowledgeable. For example, when Sean Hannity tells his audience that when Mrs. Rezco sold a 1/6 portion of the now infamous vacant lot next door to the home the Obamas purchased that the lot was rendered worthless, I already know that is not true. Actually, Mrs. Rezco subsequently sold the lot and turned a profit of $54,000 on the two sales.. We know details.

I sometimes listen to Hannity's radio show when I am in my car. I usually know immediately when he's lying...without the benefit of MMFA. But I appreciate that MMFA does monitor the show and is able to document Hannity's dishonesty for everyone...and I appreciate MMFA for that.

Irony, I always have a good laugh when angry cons post here, accusing the liberal posters of getting their info. exclusively from MMFA, or of being brainwashed by this site. I'd guess that most of the people who visit this site discovered it the way I did; In searching for items about the obvious misinformation we saw in the media.

Yes, I am for real.  I don't listen to his show everyday three hours a day, but I listen enough to know it is not a continuous stream of misinformation and outright lies smearing anything and anyone who does not subscribe to his brand of right wing conservatism. So unless you or media matters would like to document every minute of every day of his show on the radio and on Fox than claiming his show is just twisted, distorted, or fabrication is outright false.  Media Matters only posts what?  They only post the most outrageous or the comments they disagree with the most to inflame and incite progressives to think he does nothing but rant.    And politics is the very essence of defending someone or some idea.  BYW there are no character flaws, only differences of temperment or opinion.  Welcome to the 21st century where we accept everyone and praise those that ought not to be.

MMfA is documenting Hannity's BS pretty regularly now, because he is spewing so much misinformation these days.  The outrageous comments that liberals disagree with aren't dealt with here - only the outright lies are documented, and there are many of those.  Have you looked at the record? Checked out MMfA's sources?  You should. Hannity is a dishonest media ho. Which is nice work if you can get it, I guess - I don't know what other career paths would be open to such a person.

Good grief. After calling Hannity an intellectual giant you hope to persuade us of our errors with a blatent example of "concern trolling".   Hannity is a genius compared to you.

I made the mistake of not pasting the negative comments  that other made in italics and so you thought I was calling him an intellectual giant.  I would not call him the brightest of talk show hots by far, believe me.  He tends to stick to a topic or two and just grind away at it day after day.  I don't know his educational background, do you?  Did he attend law school?  I appreciatie your comparison with his intellect and mine.  That was very kind of you. And thank you for illustrating my point that the handful of progessives that troll this site are.... well I just I'd rather not say.    And I am concerned that Media Matters and the progessives do not bring much to the table and so I don't think the democrat party  should be in power running this country.

Your Princeliness, I think being called a Great American® by Hannity is similar to being called Top Ho by a pimp. You deliver the goods and don't ask too many questions.I know, the analogy is bad because Sean's fans reciprocate by calling him a GA, but they can all be Hos.The real pimps are in the nice offices of Fox & the GOP.

Whatever shread of legitimacy hannity had was lost when he resorted to name calling. That’s what children do when they run out of intelligent dialog. I’m not at all a Hannity fan. For him to deny he is spewing misinformation reminds me of the fundmentalists whose sum total argument when discussing (and ignoring)  religious history is “god did it”.

      Memo to MM4A:

Sheer Insannity's statement that your organization "...has successfully deceived the IRS into granting them a tax-exempt status reserved for, by the way, nonprofit, nonpartisan charitable groups." is, in my un-professional opinion, libelous.

Interestingly enough, however, his statement could well apply to Ollie North's "Freedom Foundation" and several other right-wing "charities."

Yesterday evening J.C. Watts was once again a guest.  When do we have the opportunity to review the financial statement of the Frankie & J.C. Watts Foundation?  I'll bet it would make most interesting reading, indeed...

You're right.  You're opinion is un-professional and ignorant of the tax code.  From the IRS site itself, and if you continue to follow links you will see nothing in the law that this site does that would validate it's tax exempt status.  BTW, yuou can make an "education" argument, but the IRS defines purposes of education as exactly that, advancement of education or science; erecting or maintaining public buildings, monuments, or works

        Exemption Requirements

To be tax-exempt under section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code, an organization must be organized and operated exclusively for exempt purposes set forth in section 501(c)(3), and none of its earnings may inure to any private shareholder or individual. In addition, it may not be an action organization, i.e., it may not attempt to influence legislation as a substantial part of its activities and it may not participate in any campaign activity for or against political candidates.

Organizations described in section 501(c)(3) are commonly referred to as charitable organizations. Organizations described in section 501(c)(3), other than testing for public safety organizations, are eligible to receive tax-deductible contributions in accordance with Code section 170.

The organization must not be organized or operated for the benefit of private interests, and no part of a section 501(c)(3) organization's net earnings may inure to the benefit of any private shareholder or individual. If the organization engages in an excess benefit transaction with a person having substantial influence over the organization, an excise tax may be imposed on the person and any organization managers agreeing to the transaction.

Section 501(c)(3) organizations are restricted in how much political and legislative (lobbying) activities they may conduct. For a detailed discussion, see Political and Lobbying Activities. For more information about lobbying activities by charities, see the article Lobbying Issues; for more information about political activities of charities, see the FY-2002 CPE topic Election Year Issues.

Congrats, MMFA! I could not think of a more worthwhile award than from Mr. America himself. BTW, we can all rest assured that 2009 is certain to bring us more phony story lines from Hannity about how much the press LOVE Obama. Because, you know, it just isn't fair for the press to go ga-ga over W. Bush, let him have his way, and then do the same for a Democratic president, after all!!

I see MMFA has inspired some mental giants of their own: “Sean Hannity is a little mama's boy…” “…a scumbag like Hannity…” “He's dumb…” “Sean, you're a joke. Media Matters has destroyed you.” “What an immature douchebag.” “…if you have the time. Or the balls, you coward.” “A mealy mouth lout like sean hannity… “Sean is a gawd-awful con With a mouth than runs permanently on He's allergic to truth Worse than merely uncouth Oh foul little boor, please be GONE.” (Here’s one of my favorites. The old ‘conservatives are Nazis' insult) “It should be called the DR. JOSEF GOBBLES AWARD and SEANNIE BOY DOES DESERVE IT.” “I name Sean Hannity winner of the Big Stupid Jerk Award 2008…” “Seannie the Sissy…” “Man, you'd have to be an idiot to listen to this meathead for any reason except the laughs.Where is the usual troll invasion that happens whenever one of these guys mentions MMFA? Could it really happen, that even Hannity's audience have finally revved their vestigial brain stems up enough to see what a douchebag he is? Nah, they probably just spelled MMFA wrong while trying to Google it.” “Even sadder, this man has fathered children.” “Dear Seannie the Sissy or the Unrepentent Liars little intern reading this” “Sheer Insannity's statement…” (These two actually could be applied to Sean or many of the MFFA posters) “Whatever shread of legitimacy hannity had was lost when he resorted to name calling.” “Wow - an "I know you are but what am I" type come back.”

That, sir, is because liberals are incapable of winning any argument based on fact.  They have nothing relevent to add to any political discourse except their snivelling hatred of anything that jeapordizes their group think mentality.  The reason why they post here as they do is because they are emboldened in groups.  Not a one of these MMFA endorsers would last 3 posts into a real and honest discussion of the news of the day.  They drown out facts with hatred.  They plug their ears and make noise.

He was also one of supporters of Ron Paul who chased Hannity down the street. Now that's a Great American.
