Misinformer of the Year Hannity again announced he was giving "Left-Wing Obamamania Media Sleaze PC Police Award" to Media Matters

December 19, 2008 2:17 pm ET

For the second day in a row, Sean Hannity stated on his radio show that he was presenting an award to Media Matters: "[A]s we announced yesterday on the program, our first annual Left Wing Obamamania Media Sleaze PC Police Award has gone to the group Media Matters." Hannity originally announced this award hours after Media Matters named him the Misinformer of the Year.

On the December 18 broadcast of his nationally syndicated radio show, Sean Hannity stated: "[A]s we announced yesterday on the program, our first annual Left Wing Obamamania Media Sleaze PC Police Award has gone to the group Media Matters."

Hannity was echoing comments he made the previous day when, hours after Media Matters for America named him the 2008 Misinformer of the Year for promoting and embellishing a vast array of false and misleading claims about President-elect Barack Obama and for attacking members of Obama's family, as well as Sen. Hillary Clinton and other progressives, Hannity announced he was giving Media Matters an award, which he named the "first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda Sleaze Award," the "Left-Wing Propaganda Obamamania Media Award," and the "first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Propaganda PC Police Award" at various points in the program.

Hannity also repeated his offer of a "prize" for Media Matters. He stated: "[O]ur offer stands. We have a prize for all the Media Matters propagandists, and that is that they get a loop tape of Barack Obama saying, 'change, change, change,' and they can listen to it 24 hours a day, seven days a week."

From the December 18 broadcast of ABC Radio Networks' The Sean Hannity Show:

HANNITY: Well, as we announced yesterday on the program, our first annual Left-Wing Obamamania Media Sleaze PC Police Award has gone to the group Media Matters. Sweet Baby James informs me that they're actually sending out press releases, and they want to be -- please book us.

Folks, I gotta tell you something. There's one thing that just makes me laugh more than anything else: a bunch of pathetic propaganda losers that sit around with the -- their whole job -- after they're funded by a bunch of left-wing radical millionaires, after having deceived the IRS into granting them tax-exempt status, which is reserved for nonprofits and nonpartisan charitable groups -- their entire job all day is to watch other shows in the hope that they may find one word, one sentence, one phrase, one paragraph that they can take out of context and they can play "gotcha." What a bunch of losers.

But, anyway, our -- we still have -- our offer stands. We have a prize for all the Media Matters propagandists, and that is that they get a looped tape of Barack Obama saying, "change, change, change," and they can listen to it 24 hours a day, seven days a week, as they try and book themselves. I'm sure Air America and NBC will be the first takers.

Given the laserbeam-like continuity of the rest of Hannity's rant there, I'm not sure he was even talking about MMfA at that particular point.

I realize original thought is not Shyawn's forte.  But complete thought still lags far behind...

Col., there's some kind of weird brilliance in Sean-of-the-dread's remark about "MM's booking themselves".  If MM could somehow "book" themselves (or would it be "itself"?) into a wider audience, that is, the more Main Stream Media World, anti-democratic traitors like Hannity would have less influence.  Almost NONE of my friends get MM on a regular basis.  I have to forward items to them.  These attacks by slugs like Hannity and O'Reilly might actually be a good thing.  Some well-placed appearances on Letterman, The Daily Show, Bill Moyers, Meet the Press, etc., could go a long way to alert the general public of MM's existence.

That is simply not how MMFA rolls.

Absolutely right, Deez.  MMFA even provides the complete link (in blue) to whatever source it is quoting.  I can go there and read, in DETAIL, the whole thing.  However, as I have said so often, we are talking to ourselves.  Not enough people have access to the internet.  Our only hope for the future is that Obama fulfills his commitment to a broader public availability of the information highway.  Only an informed population can combat these ding-bats.

HANNITY "-- their entire job all day is to watch other shows in the hope that they may find one word, one sentence, one phrase, one paragraph that they can take out of context and they can play "gotcha."

Sean, when you tell your audience over and over and over again that Barack Obama has said he "wants to attack our ally, Pakistan" (sometimes speaking each word slowly and deliberately as though you are quoting the President-elect) those aren't mere slips of the tongue...those are repeated lies. What Obama said, quite specifically, was that if there was actionable intelligence of the location of ALQaeda in Pakistan, and if Pakistan would not act, we would. In fact, about a month after Obama said those words in a debate George W. Bush finally did just that. Obama's words were heard by millions of people...his words are a matter of record and they are clear and concise. So you are lying every time you say (and said quite often during the campaign) that Obama has said that he "wants to attack our ally, Pakistan."  You know iit is a lie. And you are lying when you say that MMFA simply takes your words out of context or plays gotcha with simple mistakes. The only reason you are able to get away with your lies, Sean, is because your audience is too ignorant to know the difference.

And when you award MMFA your "first annual Left Wing Obamamania Media Sleaze PC Police Award" why don't you tell your audience that you did so in a fit of pique because MMFA chronicled your lies in naming you Misinformer of the Year?

Have you ever considered the example for your sons, Sean...a dad who tells lies for a living? What are you going to do when they are old enough to read your record and judge for themselves? You must be quite proud of yourself, I am sure...

Did anyone see the episode of HANNITY & colmes last year when Alexandra Pelosi was a guest? I did. Alexandra Pelosi is a noted documentary film maker who did a film about evangelicals in America. Reviewers said it was even-handed and definitely not a hit job. Alexandra Pelosi is Nancy Pelosi's daughter.

In 2006, during the build up to the Congressional elections Sean Hannity went over the top in his desperation (sound familiar?) over the pending collective Republican defeat. Of Nacy Pelosi, he said, among other things, that defeating Nancy Pelosi becoming Speaker of the House was worth "dying for." MMFA noted Hannity's remarks in a piece.

          http://mediamatters.org/items/200608310002

Apprently, Hannity said many other things about Pelosi during that desperate period, to the effect that Pelosi as Speaker would destroy America. Alexandra Pelosi heard those remarks. She said so in an article in Time.

          http://www.time.com/time/magazine/article/0,9171,1558314-2,00.html

When Alexandra Pelosi went on the HANNITY  & colmes show to plug her film she remarked to Hannity that she was apprhensive about coming on his show because of what he had said about her mother destroying America. Hannity, smirking, denied that he said that. The jaws of Alexandra Pelosi and Alan Colmes dropped simulataneously. Pelosi looked at Colmes and said, to the effect, "But there's tape. Can't you run the tape?" Colmes was glaring at Hannity as if to say "You lying sack of xxxx." and stammered, "There's tape..." Hannity continued to grin and smirk as if to say that he controlled the show and there wasn't going to be any tape running. Pelosi looked incredulous...Colmes looked p!ssed.

There is a You Tube video of part the segment, but it is only a two minute clip in which the exchange has been edited out (it occurred before where the clip starts).

          http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tSZCzoyePkk

So, Alexandra Pelosi thinks Sean Hannity is a liar and I suspect that Alan Colmes does, too.

Just to be clear, I have actually heard Hannity progress from saying Obama wants to "invade" Pakistan to Obama says he wants to "attack" Pakistan. I know because it drove me up the wall. Towards the end of the campaign I listened to Hannity's radio show more often (although I don't listen to him regularly). If you ever herd the show you would recognize a familair ploy of his (which he also does sometimes on his TV show). Towards the end of a segment he would rattle off (as though talking to an audience of slow learners to drive home a point), This is the same Barack Obama who...blah, blah blah, Jeremiah Wright...blah, blah, blah, Bill Ayers...blah, blah, blah, says he wants to attack our ally, Pakistan." One day, in particular he said it while I drove to pick up my my wife. On our way home, he said it again. I told my wife I couldn't believe he repeated the same lie. But, remeber, towards the end of the campaign Hannity was desperate and nuts, or more nuts than usual, and he was saying whatever lies popped into his head. This guy is a lying piece of work if I ever saw one. And I've heard him myself ao I don't need MMFA to tell me what a liar he is.

Obama said he would take unilateral action with our military, (which could include an invasion), in the country of an ally.

Yes, he's saying 7 months ago, that Hannity is exactly right, and agreeing with him.

How wild would that be if the same poster came back this week, demanding proof that Hannity ever said this? That would have to be one dishonest troll, or the stoopidest person on the planet

Sean, you're a smug a-hole with little to no hint of intelligence rolling around in that cavern where your brain is supposed to be. Here's the thing. If MMFA is "smearing" you, which would indicate that they've lied about what you've said, prove them wrong. It should be easy right? Except for the fact that you know, there is this video thing where you can go back, and see what you've said, in full context (as MMFA provides of course), and then you can see where you're wrong. The beauty of this website is that, they're not really saying anything. They're using YOUR words, not their own.

Sean, everytime I see your little smirk, I want to smack it off of your smug face. I loved it when you get pelted with snowballs last year, by Ron Paul supporters no less. I can't think of anyone who deserves a pop in the mouth more than you.

About tapes, perhaps someone can enlighten me. How does MMFA go about geting tapes and transcripts. Does MMFA tape these shows? Are tapes available to the public by other means? What about transcripts?

In my observation there's a whole lot more lying going on, particularly by Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh, than gets reported here on MMFA. Read my (overly) lengthy posts above. Hannity often throws in a recapitulation about what is wrong about Barack Obama...Jeremiah Wright, blah, blah, blah...Bill Ayers, blah, blah, blah...says he wants to attack our ally, Pakistan, blah, blah blah...regardless what the topic of conversation is. Similarly, Limbaugh often gives a rapid fire argument and slips in tidbits of misinformation, lies actually, and then is quickly off onto something else.

The reason I ask about the tapes is that unless MMFA reports an egregious lie and has tapes to back it up, I wonder what happens to tapes of other episodes of these shows that are not reported by MMFA. For example, in the Alexandra Pelosi segment she asked about tapes of Hannity saying things about her mother that she heard him say. Hannity just grinned like the Cheshire Cat. Is it safe to assume that tapes of Hannity trashing Alexandra Pelosi's mother, saying she was a danger to America, were no longer availabale to anyone but Sean Hannity or FOX?

I wish MMFA, or anyone else, would clear this up about the availability of tapes of the shows of these professional liars. MMFA does a wonderful job, but my point is that, in my observation, even MMFA can't keep up with and expose all of the lying going on in right wing broadcasting. It really is a sad state of affairs...

My question is why are all these people picking on poor Sean Hannity and calling him such a liar? He's not even an elected official. They say some of the same things about him that MMFA and we do here. Is there a grand conspiracy against Sean Hannity...or is he just pathological liar whose lies are easily exposed because they are so frequent and his words are often preserved for posterity? And maybe a whole bunch of people can reach the same conclusion independently of each other...

      To paraphrase the Bard:

"Methinks the idiot (Hannity is no gentleman) doth protest too much"

I think Hannity feels the walls closing in on him.

Giving more publicity to Sean Hannity is such a waste of effort and time.  Ninety five percent of talk radio is owned by right wing corporate interests who keep lies in circulation on a consistent and effective basis.

The only way to counter the garbage spewed by Sean and Rush and a whole slew of clowns passing as political commentators and/or journalists is to publicize sources of real news so that there is a semblance of reality that truly informs the public.

One  good example of a far better news source than the TV infotainment selectively aired by every single network at the same time 24/7 is http://tvnewslies.org

They update all through the day.  Worth a look.
