I was struck by the simple truth that he pointed out about WWII.

If you subscribe to the idea that it was WWII that pulled us out of the Depression rather than the New Deal, as many Republicans do... it was still GOVERNMENT SPENDING.

What the Repubs know, probably the tenet that they chant in the Rove Rangers, is that "We make up the facts and our followers are too lazy to follow-up and refute them." How easy it is to mock complex Depression-era policies with 9/10s of the people from the time unable to answer due to death.

Death of the party. Now there is a concept that the Repubs are really fighting.

What the GOP is after is to make FDR and Obama look bad, so they can block the kind of legislation, and the kind of contact with the president, that made FDR so popular. It would destroy their coalition. It's pure politics, and nothing else. And the worst part is that our Blue Dogs, led by Heath Shuler and Ben Nelson, are helping them, by making the package less likely to shift things.
