"That's not a right-wing claim it's the truth"
A truth that exists only in your mind!
The closest thing to truth in that statement is probably the nationalization of the banks (if that fully happens). But the real problem here is that the right and the GOP have their base (who dont seem to be that bright) confused about what the TRUE defenition of Socialism is. A simple Google search would clear that up for all of them, yet all they want to believe is that a progressive tax system (which we've had for ages) is Socialism. That social equality (how horrible that sounds) is Socialism.
Stop listening to your leaders who take their marching orders from a guy on radio, and get a dictionary, or learn how to click a mouse...
Having lived in a country with "European-style socialism", I would be absolutely THRILLED if this was true. Getting 2 years off with pay when you have a child, 6 weeks vacation, tax-payer funded health care whether you're working or not, real unemployment benefits. Yeah, I could suffer through that again. And that is REAL pro-family politics in practice.
Unfortunately, it's not happening here, so the right-wingers are wrong, as usual. But I wish that this time they were right.
I think, as usual, the right is missing the big picture. I think by constantly decrying "socialism" they are actually paving the way for it. The more and more the term is mis-used and over-used the less and less scary it becomes to the American people. I don't think Americans are scared of the term socialism anymore and I think that is a great thing.
I don't really want us to get to a European style completely - I don't need that much time off, I enjoy going to work everyday. But I do believe more national control of the banking regulations and nationalized healthcare are both long overdue. Finally, I think these ideas are becoming realities in the minds of Americans and we have talking heads like Scarborough to thank for it. Thanks, Joe!
