Yes, "people on both sides of the aisle" meaning the radical unhinged right and the anti-American angry right.
Magnolia - And which national news media outlet is it that breeds this sort of contempt from the left-wingers as FoxNews does for the right?
See, it does not exist. This is unique to the right wing nutteries.
No doubt that crazies exist of all stripes, colors and ideologies. But you diminish the impact that News Corp & AM radio has on this sort of hatred & contempt when you compare the left & right and say it is the same.
You beat me to it. Nice post, thanks.
P.S. And let us not forget that Faux allowed the "happy negro" chyron to be broadcast on their channel. Don't forget about the"terrorist fit bump" embarrassment or that this is the channel that on a daily basis calls our President a "socialist", "Marxist", and communist". Yes, we (i.e. the Left) have crazies, no doubt, but Faux and am hate radio directly breed hate, racism, and ignorance.
Now, I do not know of any commentary, that I have seen, in the past on liberal websites, that is as bad as some right winger websites. Lurking in Freeperville is downright scary at times about how they want to kill this person, that person, and do harm to others. I don't see a lot of that on liberal websites.
I'm just saying, when I see unhinged lefties, I like to call it out. Same as unhinged righties. I don't like the fringes of either party really.
Magnolia - If you have the stomach for it, sit and watch a week of Glenn Beck, Bill O'Reilly, Fox & Friends and Hannity. Then listen to a few hours of AM radio talkers.
Once doing that, you will realize that for that 1 week, millions of Americans have just done the same thing. The difference is that their soft, squishy minds are much more open to influence than yours.
After that exercise, it becomes very hard to say that FNC, News Corp and AM radio do NOT incite these feelings of hatred and bigotry. This is their M.O.
There is not equivalent on the left that produce this sort of vile behavior. Some people criticise this as "politically correct" of the left. I like to call it respect.
I am just trying to make the point that we, the liberals, have our own kooks as well. And I said before, I don't think that they're as bad, well, not close to being as bad as right wing kooks. I call out kookery if and when I see it, regardless from what side it is coming from. Left, right, center. Doesn't matter.
I mean, just look at the presidential campaign, if you want more examples of how BAD the right wing is. I mean, campaign events where you had audience members calling for the death of the democratic presidential candidate. I don't remember such things happening during Obama's campaign events, or Biden's.
Just to reiterate. I do think the extreme fringe of the right, is bad or worse than the extreme fringe of the left, and I do see what happens when we have whole media conglomerates who are more or less proponents of the fringe (ahem, NewsCorp, I'm looking at you over there in the corner).
I get it. Don't worry. I see it on a daily basis.
Right, opinion running the gamut from "Hitler!!" to "This is the only thing Obama's done right, like a monkey typing a word correctly". And with the obligatory argument that embryos have little souls in them, so you can't use them for the welfare of people who are suffering from horrible diseases. That must be the centrist viewpoint.
That's a real cross-section of America, alright.
This issue ticks me off more than any other. At least with abortion I can understand the moral basis for the viewpoint. Homosexuality differs from the norm and is condemned in the Bible. I get that. I don't agree with the arguments, but on some level I can see where people are coming from.
Here, however, we're talking about donated genetic material. It's not even a potential human being like a fetus, it's a potential human being if it's implanted into a woman. That's a tremendous distinction. Nobody grieves when unused embryos are discarded, so there's exactly zero societal basis for opposing this research. And it only makes sense on a moral level if you believe that God allows embryos to be inhabited by souls, when God knows they'll be discarded or used for research, and then sends those souls to Hell. That is a crazy deity.
And that's what really angers me. There are real people who are suffering out there. Anyone who has a loved one with Alzheimer's or Parkinson's can tell you how devastating it is. Yet the noble goal of preventing such suffering for future generations takes a backseat to the idea that God might be incredibly cruel and without any sense of judgment whatsoever.
It gets worse:
Yup had a supreme court justice that was a big fan of eugenics, we did. Early intelligence tests helped bring this bad science into the mainsteam america.
Like victory in Iraq, a superman, produced from stem cells, means little except as a political fear lever to the neocons.
I don't want to harm a liberal at all. I just want to give them one collective kick in the rear.
That's all. Have a life of liberty without government up in your behind.
