I have to take issue with this-- There's plenty to get BOR on without having to invent a situation-- I'm listening to Olbermann right now on this women-hating issue and he's absurd as usual-- overstatement, straw man arguments, the works.
At no time did BOR blame the victim here-- he clumsily and inappropriately did a screed against drunkeness at the wrong time. Like who wouldn't warn women against getting drunk and wandering around late at night? Every parent does. To claim otherwise-- or that this kind of warning is blaming the victim-- is absurd.
That's it, really-- and as far as it goes with this "stalking' thing-- why in the world did this blogger give this intern an interview, if she was being stalked by him? Or call the police?
BOR's a jerk, and that's about it. The Alexa organization wasn't too offended by him so I won't be either.
You know guys, it really is true-- too many liberals are being played like rubes, with no sense of discretion or reasonable argument required. I guess it makes some people feel better....
It's quite obvious that you are the rube here because you are sure having a hissy fit over KO and BoR's blame the victim rants. Rube.
At no time did BOR blame the victim here
Ooo, sorry! That is INcorrect.
The correct answer was:
I can't imagine what you'd call that other than blaming the victim.
No he didn't. He was criticizing their behavior as reckless, but he never blamed them for the crime, or absolved the guilt of the criminal. Big difference.
There's plenty to get O'Reilly on without having to invent phony outrages. And BTW, it's the job of reporters to "stalk" their subjects-- whatever 'stalking' is these days. It seems to be any behavior people don't like.
What bothers me about all of this is the sloppy, hackneyed thinking going on here against BOR. It completely lacks subtlety and discernment-- and mimics the people we're supposed to be against!
This all brings up a bigger question, too. Is someone's behavior ever contributory to the bad things that happen to them? I heard so much sentimental nonsense on this on KO's show tonight that I want to throw up.
I never watch KO's show because it's difficult to spend an hour's worth of time, for about a minute and a half of amusement, and for about forty-five seconds of information, all of it smothered by what must be 30 minutes of commercials (truly, somebody count the number of commercial breaks on this show, and the length of them: it's ridiculous), and of course, the balance of the hour is spent listening to KO talk alternately about KO and BO and now this hack beck I guess. But I watched it tonight, and suffered through it all (and the commercials, my LORD are they trying to set the record for most selling in an hour): and regarding this nonsense about BO and KO and thinkProgess, and rape and rape victims (always an attention grabbing sensational subject), and with all of KO's references to himself and to BO, I couldn't help but to be reminded of something in a movie I saw again just recently, "Broadcast News":
There's the reporter Aaron (I trust I'm going to recall of this accurately), and he has just wandered into the newsroom while everybody is watching the Pretty Faced Anchor Tom on tape, interviewing a woman about her extraordinarily personal experience of something called 'date rape'... and Aaron says "Hey, could somebody please change the channel and put the news on"... and the gang watching the tape, mostly or entirely women, all groan at his smart alec comment, and shush him... and when the taped interview is done playing (complete with the extraordinarily personal and emotional spectacle of Tom crying on camera), Aaron says "Sure, let's never forget that the story is all about us"... and the ultra serious and conscientious producer Jane responds "I know, and I really struggled with that, and I'm still not sure" (or words to that effect)... and when it's all done, Tom asks Aaron "So, you really hated it, didn't you?"... and Aaron says "No: I think you really blew the lid off the big story of 'nookie'"...
"Let's never forget, it's all about us, the on camera and behind camera people, and it's all about 'nookie' and 'date rape' and just plain old rape, isn't it?"
Anyway, that's what the KO show this night reminded me of. And yeah, it makes me nauseous too.
"Hey, could somebody please change the channel, and see if there's any news on?"
