Except, Pat, that the Koreans, and the Japanese have built plants and put suppliers into business here in the United States. Take a look at Toyota for example. Plants in Kentucky, Indiana (2), Texas, California, and a few other places. Honda has their double assembly plant in Ohio. KIA and Hyundai I believe have plants in the South. VW has a plant here. Mercedes. BMW. The only people taking car manufacturing plants out of the continental US are the big 3.

Lots of others are putting them in.

Buchanan has no idea what he's talking about here, as per usual.

Did you see earlier today where Fox news actually admitted Japanese health care has a significant impact on the cost of their auto workers? Too bad it was one of their cut and runs, their loyal 'bots will never pick up on that fact.

The Japanese and Koreans have taken their market share of the American car market with a quality product at a good price.  Nothing else.  When the consumer sees Toyotas and Nissans lasting as long as they do he or she takes notice.

I agree with a lot of things Buchanan has said before, but this is ridiculous. The Japanese make a quality product at an affordable price. That is why they are successful. If it wasn't for the Japanese, we would still be buying cars like in the 1970's that lasted about 4 years, the paint wore off after two years, 15 miles to the gallon was "economical" and everything simply fell apart, from the interior seats to the cracking dashboard to the starter, the transmission....

I love Japanese cars. Even if I won the lottery, the Honda Civic is the ultimate driving machine for me. It's next to perfect.

For ONCE, Z-man, you've said something that I completely agree with.

Actually I think the Japanese cars are just as expensive as American cars now.  Korean cars are a little less.  I've also heard that Honda and Toyota (or was it Nissan?) employee more US workers than the big 3 US automakers.  US automakers are what "took down" the US automakers.

Dunno bout your mutual car choice, but Z has put up some reasonable posts of late. Some other conservative posters also seem more rational lately. Some not so much of course.

What took down the american automakers was bad design, lousy marketing and the fact they're very slow to change
