EMBED

(He "promise[s]" it's actually water.)

From The April 9 edition of Fox News' Glenn Beck:

BECK: And President Obama apparently feels like, boy, I'm pretty much done, not a lot more to do, you know? We got all those things done. You know what? Why don't I work on immigration reform?

Later this year, he hopes to create a path for the estimated 12 million illegal aliens here in America to become legal. But yet, we haven't fixed the border and shut the water off. What a sweet, sensitive guy he really is.

Here is the one thing I think the media is missing. I don't know about you, but when I saw that story last night, I did this -- you got to be kidding me! I mean, let me -- let me just ask you a question. Maybe I'm alone, but I think it would be just faster if they just shot me in the head. You know what I mean? How much more can -- how much more can he disenfranchise all of us?

We have Bill Schulz here. He's from Red Eye. And I'm just going to demonstrate at least how I feel, all right?

I feel -- when I read this story last night -- I don't know about you. Let's say Bill is the average American here and I'm President Obama. This is the way I feel. I feel like President Obama is just saying, you know what, I've got the $3.5 trillion budget that we're doing. You know, is it cold? Yes.

You know -- where the only fat they cut out is national defense. We have growing Social Security. We have Medicare, Medicaid obligations, right? Let me get some over here. And that puts us on the hook now for about $53 trillion.

Now, the worst is that we are buried under $1.25 quadrillion dollars in debt. Overseas -- Obama is apologizing to the Frenchy French for our arrogance. You know, he's bowing to the Saudi Arabian king. I don't know if you saw that one, OK?

Oh, I almost forgot. He's also closing Gitmo and letting the terrorists onto the streets.

And on the island of Cuba, the Congressional Black Caucus met with Fidel Castro to try to fix the U.S.-Cuban relations -- something that would give their tourism industry a billion dollar boost. It's no wonder that Illinois Democrat Bobby Rush said -- the meeting, he said, quote, "It was almost like listening to an old friend." They gazed into each other's eyes. It's been fantastic.

By the way, under Castro, 93 percent of Cuban labor force works for the state. Sound familiar? Average worker -- making a whopping $9 a month there in Cuba. He's fantastic. We should buddy with him. What would it be like to work for $9 a month? Oh, we may all find out soon.

And also, according to the U.N., seven abortions for every 10 babies born in Cuba. Sure, sounds like a vacation in Disneyland to me.

But now, last night, I get there and I see, I get on the website, and I see that Obama wants to legalize the illegal aliens, you know, when unemployment is 8.5 percent and underemployment rate is 15.6 percent. You know, you're having a hard time finding a job, you know, without having to be forced -- do you have any matches -- forced to complete, you know, compete with a whole new crop of workers.

So what does Obama do, he says, boy, I'm not -- I'm just out of stuff to do. What else could I possibly do to the American people?

President Obama, why don't you just set us on fire? For the love of Pete, what are you doing? Do you not hear -- do you not hear the cries of people who are saying stop? We would like some sanity in our country for a second!

We didn't vote to lose the republic. We didn't vote for any of this stuff. We voted for change.

You know what that change was? The change we wanted was an end to the games! We wanted the games to be ended.

We want people to say what they mean and mean what they say. We want people just to be honest. We want the parties to actually stand for something.

We want the spending that is out of control -- you're building bridges that lead to nowhere. You're spending money that leads only to slavery! We just want some common sense. That's all we want.

We can disagree with each other on policies, but Good Lord Almighty, man, please. Some of us don't agree with all of the policies. We'd like to have a country left in the end of four years. No need to set us on fire.

SCHULZ: I thought I was here to talk about Sex in the City.

BECK: OK. Now, we have -- we have Rick Perry with us. He is the governor of Texas

[...]

BECK: By the way, I just want -- I just want to show you, kids, water, not gasoline. I was -- I was actually told by our legal department, "Glenn, you can't just do that, you've got to" -- I said, yeah, this is why our country is so screwed up if I got to actually say, that wasn't really gasoline, kids. Don't do that at home, that would be really, really bad.

But since we're here -- you know, I'm a fan of 24, I think I've seen that scene on 24. If we're going to do 24" we might as well go all the way.

Here, watch this.

BECK [video clip]: Hi. I'm Glenn Beck. And on today's show, we talked a lot about setting people on fire, but the real heat that we have to be worried about is global warming. Global warming is the reason it snowed yesterday in New York City, and it won't stop until all of that warming buries us under 3 million feet of ice. To get involved in your community, in the fight against global warming, get into your private jet and fly around the world and give some slide shows. Thank you -- from all of us on The Glenn Beck Program.

BECK: Am I the only one that -- those darn things make me crazy?

I agree. Beck should not be allowed on television. Murdoch should be ashamed of himself for permiting a madman on his network.

My question for Mr. Beck is why live in a country where you think the boogeyman is coming to get you.

        LEAVE.

Murdoch  is not invested in the safety of this country.  If anything pops off here he can go back to his sweet digs in Australia.

When are patriots going to fight these people and how will we do it?

Their goal is to oust a democratically elected government.  They don't care about this country or our freedoms, and if we are silent and submissive, we have no one else to blame that in the midst of this economic crisis we face a coup d'etat.

They feel they have nothing to lose, and are willing to tear this country apart to own it.

Can I ask from people here to agree or disagree with this view I have.

I've been looking some of these shows up and have come to this conclusion, FYI, I'm from Ireland, hence I've only recently looked at these people.

Beck is clinically, full blown insane, and what he says on T.V is very very irresponsible, especially as he is on a station that has the word NEWS in its name.

Coulter is bitter and bouncing off the walls mad

Limbaugh is an angry, bitter selfish little fat man.

Hannity is a republican who is a bit of a wimp, kinda like Limbaugh but more of a sissy about it.

O Reilly, although probably just as bad, because of recent stuff by the previous names, Bill comes across as more fair and honest to God likeable compared to them, maybe just as biased and confrontational, but less insane.

Please let me know your thoughts on what I've determined they all are, as I mentioned I'm Irish so I presume that any of ye would have more knowledge of these people, thanks

Your observations are accurate. The Beck/Coulter/Limbaugh/Hannity/Bachmanns of the conservative right are lunatics all. It is troubling that such incendiary (pun intended) talk is allowed on any channel, let alone one that calls itself "news." I don't know what's become of journalistic integrity. When will this madness stop?

Fox news is where its at, liberals will never say they are better than msnbc or cnn, cause those shows are pushed by liberals. In fact how many liberal networks have covered the tea party on april 15th? How many liberal networks covered the anti-war protests that didn't have 20 people attend?

You liberals all heard of black liberation theology during rev. wright and obama scandal right? Did you know that theology is tied to marxism?

And these tea parties are great, its our american right, people are afraid of this government? I do not ever remember being afraid during clinton or the bush years. Do you? And for liberals on msnbc to say this is the worst crisis since the great depression only have to look to who obama imitates in jimmy carter to see that is a lie, inflation was high at 12%, and unemployment was at 11%.

Also the money that is being printed is going to cause insane inflation, and pray to god not hyperinflation.

            Earth to the inebriated one:

No "librul" news networks covered the teabagging on the 15th . . . BECAUSE TODAY IS THE 10th - IT HASN'T HAPPENED YET.

This is the difference between an actual news network and a fake one [i.e., Fox]: actual news networks cover events WHEN THEY OCCUR, not PROMOTE them BEFOREHAND.

Sadly, it's insanity, bombast and a pathetic lack of self-respect that passes as news for many in this country.

It's true. Many tune into Beck, for example, to see what kind of nutty comments and or stunts he's going to pull, and he rarely disappoints. Same can be said of Limbaugh. Their audience fully expects them to serve up raw red meat on a daily basis and they make a good living doing that. As long as that's the case, they won't change. Beck, however, has the voices in his head psycho thing going as well, i.e., "Believe in something even if it's wrong."

Hey, who wouldn't want to watch someone have a complete meltdown, live, on television. Where's the popcorn?

Letting guests give their opinion is the point, its not all about the host as with liberals. Thats why O'Reilly is #1 he lets others express their views whether he likes it or not, and if he does not agree he chimes in with his point of view, that is fair and balanced.

If you do not want to be informed keep watching olbermann play clips of what bush did, wow thats a good idea, thats real news in liberals minds. Or watch him berate sarah palin about her daughter, knowing damn well fox has not even touched bidens daughter snorting blow other than mentioning it. And matter of fact if biden was a republican he would still be hearing about his daughter, there is a double standard in the media amongst liberal networks, thats another reason fox is #1.

And liberals dont get mad when people dont agree with your view, liberals are mean, and condescending when people oppose their view, how about grow up.

Hey ConMan defender, drink all the tea you want. You guys realize that you are replacing Kool-Aid with TEA so if someone hurts your feeling by calling you are Tea Toddler, it is just thier right of expression.

Once again, freedoms works two ways. All I meant was that if you really, really want to protest, don't pretend, do it...like the real protesters, the monks. But you guys don't have the b@lls.

P.S. Who the hell are you to think that everyone here is fixated on MSNBC? People here are thoughtful and have disagreed with other liberals on this site and the Democratic leaders. Can say much for most Repubs, they blindly follow.

I'll just mention aswell, sorry to turn this page into an Irish discussion, but from what I believe, very basically, Obama is raising taxes, while investing in things like, medicine, education and environmental projects to benefit the country, is that right?

I say that because in Ireland we just had a budget which raised taxes, which nobody wants but thats not the problem, whats upsetting for a lot of people is we've raised taxes without investing in medicine, education and green energy, hence why I'd side with Obama, because I can see the method to his madness as the old saying goes.

But another question then is, is that very basically what Obama's doing?

Sorry for going off topic a bit, but what more can you say than Glenn Beck is cookoo lol

This man Glenn Beck needs to check into a drug and alcohol rehabilitation center.  Shame on FOXNEWS for allowing this man to come on the air drunk like this.  The reason he does all that crying on the show is because he has fallen back into his drunken stupor and he sees himself as a failure.  Really he is crying out for help.  The man needs help for his alcohol and drug problems.   If he gets these two problems taken care of at least he will be sober enough to hide his racist beliefs and his Nazism.  But appearing drunk like that on the air, he does not have the wherewithal to hide  and suppress his KKKism. If he is going to start an insurrection at least he should stay sober to fight the battle. He is trying to start a war in this country but when all hell breaks loose, he is going to check himself into the rehab where he will be safe.  What a coward.  Also Beck should be fired from FOX for mocking President Obama's aunt.

At least Obama, being the man that he is, apologized. Your boys just say it, Dittobirds laugh and all is forgotten. Like these Tea Parties...how in the world can they compare them to the Boston Tea Party. The answer is---they have no clue but love to follow the shepards. Tea Todlers, no mispelling(sic), should cry about being pick on when they are called that.

Maybe every Tea Toddler should wear a teabag pin to replace the American flag pin which they adore...but don't wear.

Obama didn't mock the handicapped. He mocked himself and Jay Leno because Jay Leno praised him for something that wasn't praiseworthy, a rather low bowling score.

It was the 'good job' kind of comment that Leno made that Obama was mocking. But because he understood that no joke that gives anyone the ideas that he even hints at taking a jab at the Special Olympics is cool, he apologized.

Since you falsely accused him, you should apologize.

I let you guess which ones and as you can see Shuster is left off this list because hes slightly funny.....in a sad I hope someone writes all your jokes kind of way because he can be funny if he just reacts

And when a report comes out next week about a family burning themselves because they couldn't take it anymore, dont deny that you had nothing to do with it.  You know, like you did with the warning of the non-coming, non-existent, non-eminent gun ban, and a looney shot 3 cops out of fear.

Fox News is literally like the 2 minute hate in 1984, Except it goes on all day, everyday. It is so cynical in that it assumes it's viewers aren't smart enough to see through their lies and misdirection, and as far as fox viewers go, they are quite right. Do I think Glenn Beck should be removed from the air? No, he has a right to say what he wants, but eventually something is does on air is going to cross that line into yelling "fire" in a crowded theater (I wonder if he hasn't already.) It's truly bizarre to witness the venom that people like Beck and Hannity have for the President. Obama has never said one word about a gun ban, not one. For better or worse, the right wing won that fight, it's a settled issue, just like the left has won the abortion issue. The most that will ever happen is some tinkering around the margins (assault weapons ban, late term abortions, etc.) But by and large, these fights have been settled. Obama understands taking on guns is a losing issue. No way he goes past an assault weapons ban (if that). Anyone who thinks the federal government is going to come and snatch their hunting rifles is living in a world far removed from reality.

Make note of this act of violence, even if it was "just water" used.  How many mentally ill people are out there who saw what Beck did, and believes it was all real, and will at some point reinact the whole thing really for real?

Remember the good old days when public figures (remember Clinton) were crucified for what they did that could, or would influence young minds out there? Clinton did his dastardly deeds in private, but idiots like Beck dragged them out into view for the whole world to see, and now they do much worse in the full light of day.

Things are comedy if they do one of three things:

      1. Something is unexpected, in example your watching a movie where the people are driving along and out of no where a grand piano fall out of the air landing on a parked car smashing it. Funny. (Or a conservative host pulls out some gasoline from under the table. Funny.)

      2. Something is extreme, in example loony toons where the characters play the piano with their feet. Funny. (Or when a conservative host makes a point by pouring "gasoline" on someone. Funny."

      3. An object is out of place for where you typically expect to see it, in example a 100 year old women driving a bullet bike with aviators and a leather jacket. Funny. (Or when a conservative host isn't just reading the news but instead is pouring gasoline on someone. Funny."

Beck is very good, he utilized all three. To the average person this was funny. If you turned off the sound and forgot your political differences, you'd think it was funny.

You think that a proposed tax increase on the richest 5% is the equivalent to being burned alive.

Tells us all we need to know about your sense of humor, and you.

Please stop lecturing us about seeing the "humor" in Beck's paranoid, pathetic rants.  No matter how many times you tell us so, a train wreck involving corpses shrewn all over the county is not funny.  Regardless of your politics.  And a train wreck, complete with corpses, is exactly what Glenn Beck's show is.

You see your missing the spectacular symbolism here. The American people are almost on "fire" (angry, disenfrachised, fed up, boiling over, etc) and the acts of Obama and congress are just adding fuel to an explosion.

It's not just a tax increase on the rich, it's a debt increase on our children through bailouts, propping up failed companies, the combination of government and business, refusing to secure the border, pork filled budgets and "stimulus" bills, bridges for micosoft buildings, money for zoos, half fought wars, all of it! By both parties! The insanity never ends.

And your using a false analogy. Someone pretending to pour gasoline on people, NO ONE GETS HURT! Whereas a real train wreck with dead people WHERE PEOPLE DIE, is serious, not funny. Sorry if you couldn't tell the difference between those. The Simpsons no one actually dies, Beck's show no one actually dies. Therefore funny.

It's no joke. Spending millions and billions on infrastructure is an investment in our children's future.

Keeping our nation from entering a depression by giving millions of the poorest people in our nation a little more money each week (giving $13 to millions of people each payday is a ton of money into the economy, btw) is an investment in our children's future.

Keeping our banks and other huge corporations from failing is an investment in our nation's financial credibility around the world. We have to have a credible face in the world. We cannot exist on our own.

            All good investments.

On the other hand, putting more and more money into the pockets of the richest in our country? A terrible investment. Spending money on an unjust, ill-conceived and terribly-run war was a terrible investment of trillions of dollars.

Sorry, my assumption was the fact that half of Americans voted for McCain. I don't blame this all on Obama, I blame it on all of them, that is why congress is a much better indicator. I think this out of control government has been going on for a long time. Bush increased it dramatically. Infact on his watch government spending increased 4% every year. Now Obama is just increasing that even more. The problem is these two bozos are only partially to blame, they simply sign in the laws, its those in congress that continually decide to increase spending and put our children into massive debt. Sorry you still trust the fearless leader Obama and that he can do no wrong.

Ok now, wait a minute.  Now you're telling me that the reason you think that half the country is angry is because 50% (47%, actually) voted for McCain?  Are you serious?  And what the h*ll is Obama supposed to do about that?  I seem to recall being told to "get over it" (remember the Sore Loserman signs?) when my candidate got MORE VOTES than the other guy in 2000.

I reject the notion that all the people who voted for McCain are now "angry" anyway.  Obama's 65% approval rate certainly suggests that the number is far smaller.  I would also point out that there are these things called "elections" which determine which "representatives" get to make "policy."  Fortunately for all of us, they are never far into the future.

Rather than ask Obama and the majority in Congress to take opinion polls, watch Fox News cover the "Tea Parties," and then adjust accordingly, how about if we just let the people we elected try to do what they were elected to do?  If we don't like it, we can go vote- it's a lot more constructive than waving signs and shouting about generalities like "spending" and "pork."   Or maybe you just want the President and Congress to act like weather vanes in a storm, and twist this way and that at every new wave of "outrage" from people who have been whipped into a frenzy over God Knows What.

Sorry I wasn't in the mood of looking up exact percentages, he could stop spending like crazy, that's always an option. I'm not one of those people who thinks the other side should get over it, we always need the loyal opposition. I couldn't imagine the government completely controlled by one party or the other, that's dangerous. These protests are warnings to those "policy makers" that if they would like to stay in that position then they better listen up and do A, B, and C. I dunno I always thought protests and freedom of speech were pretty dang American.

Also it's not an option of either or when it comes to listening to public opinion. Politicians have to decide which battes to fight. I don't know something like the border which the public is overwhelmingly in support of securing, as a leader you should probably do it. If the public is consistently against something, say pork, spending, etc. Then listen to them!

Bah, I just give up.  There's no point in talking to you; you are convinced that you've got your thumb on the pulse of the public, and if Obama doesn't act on what you want, we need to "do something."  Obama needs to "secure the border" (what does that mean? You don't say- not your problem, not your responsibility) because that's what "everyone" wants.  Last time I checked, Tom Tancredo didn't win the GOP nomination- odd, since "everyone wants" what his No. 1 issue was.   You totally dismiss the concept of elections because elections didnt get you what you wanted, whatever that is.  Obama needs to "stop pork,"- again, "pork" means "spending in the other guy's district."

Please don't respond any  more.  You've got nothing to say, and you never have.  You bleat these bland generalities, make statements you can't back up with facts, and just whine because, darn it, there isn't an election every 90 days to allow you to express your frustration more often.  You clearly want this country run on popularity polls.  You have nothing but contempt for representative democracy, since you want to pretend the last election simply didn't happen.

I don't know how many times I can say this, but I'll try just once more:  we have elections in this country.  People use them to decide who will be guiding policy for the next two or four or six years.  We don't run our country based on the current level of "anger," real or imagined.  We don't run our country based on the latest polls.  And we don't run our country based on how many turn out to wave signs in response to a propaganda push by Fox News.  Sorry.

An excellent straw man argument, Bravo! Yes I am convinced the vast majority of the public is fed up with out of control spending, you nailed me there. However once again I don't think this is all Obama's fault, I think it's King George's too, but mostly its our members of congress, they make the laws, they decide the massive amounts of money that will be wasted.

Yes I'm a firm believer that the federal government shouldn't be worried about instate affairs. I shouldn't be paying for Microsoft's Bridge in whatever state it's in, if the members of that State feel its so important they can have their state congress pass a bill to pay for it.

Once again the loyal opposition is fundamental to representative democracy, if people just "shut up" or go along with the crowd, then we get things like the Iraq War. I feel it a sense of duty to watch my government and voice my opinion to let others know, signs and protests are one of the best ways to do that.

I never said I wish "the last election never happend" or have an election "every 90 days" or "that [I] want this country run on popularity polls, although you have an fabulous imagination, I commend you on that.

The fact is we do run a large part of our country on polls, because there are things that happen during elections cycles that were not discussed during the cycle. For instance The Iraq War or trillion dollar bailouts. You use an either/or fallacy. We don't have to choose:

1.Run the entire country only on polls and anger of the moment (that would be mob rule)

2.Just shut our mouths until the next election cycle.(that would give our government too much power)

America is all about debate my friend, and not only congress but amongst her people, and there is no better place to do it than at a rally. Congress really should listen when there is an overwhelming majority and what they want is constitutional, if they want to stay in office that is. But I like to give them a fair warning.
