Barnicle and Eugene Robinson hit their respective nails on their heads. Robinson said that the Republicans are mired by their inability to change. That's always been the Republican/Conservative problem, and the liberal/progressive's advantage. The Republicans were able to convince a large proportion of the older population in the USA that the status quo was good, and those people are dying off. The newer generation has seen all kinds of change in their lives, and are more open to change.
