          Beck is a dick.

I didn't mean to imply I was in favor of secession, only that this cretin is so sure of himself that he'll never be able to be convinced of anything that isn't hard wired into his think right-wing skull.

How did MMFA let you through on this? I tried to quote Olbermann last week when he called young girls "S***S" and they said I was using profanity!

I know at one time you could say "ass" but not the British "a.r.s.e.".

Didn't we go through this issue about 150 years ago? I thought it was resolved.

Funny-- Beck could do some research on this-- as if he's the first guy who wondered what the FFs thought on the possibility. He's a learned guy, for sure.

Beck is a libertarian and not right wing. As far as fascism, goes both Bush and Obama are leading this country towards a fascist state and not a socialist state. Fascism still grants the appearance of a free market, but behind the scenes, the government pulls the strings. (see ouster of former GM CEO, and the refusal of the government to accept TARP repayment).

He sure does love his country, doesn't he?  Only a true partiot would talk about seceding from the union because he doesn't like the new president's policies.  Or because he doesn't like what policies he thinks the new president my propose some day.

The founding fathers wouldn't allow you to secede.

The government of Massachusetts used force to put down Shays' Rebellion.

George Washington took the field at the head of soldiers in order to end the Whiskey Rebellion -- by force if necessary.

The federal government imprisoned and tried Aaron Burr, a former Vice President of the United States, for TREASON, allegedly for trying to separate several states from the United States and form them into a new nation, with himself at the head. (Burr's real plan remains an object of speculation and he was acquitted, but the Jefferson administration took action it said it thought was necessary to prevent the secession of several states, so obviously Jefferson, a founding father, DID NOT think states could secede.)

I could go on, but it should be clear that Beck is clearly deranged, ignorant, and uninformed.

Beck sort of interupts himself but I think what he was starting to say is that scholars say they would not allow you to secede but then he says he doesn't believe them.  Stephen Colbert should retire because you can't do a better parody of a no nothing right wing idealogue than Beck the one Beck does himself.

If the founding fathers intended for secession to be an option they would have detailed in the Constitution the method for leaving the Union. Since the method isn't specified anywhere in the document, the obvious implication is the founding fathers didn't want it to be done.

Important to note that Crockett didn't try to secede, he left the country. Wingnutters are welcome to follow Davey's lead.

Also, Crockett was not a Senator (he was in the House), so I doubt that he made any such comments from the "well of the Senate."

Although Beck is clearly a nutcase, and I'm quite glad we won the civil war, I don't think Beck's views are completely off base here. Many of the founding fathers were skeptical of the idea of a powerful central government and wanted states to retain sovereignty, including the right to secede.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secession_in_the_United_States

At least one legal theorist, Lysander Spooner, who was also an abolitionist, did believe that the southern states had the right to secede.

      http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lysander_Spooner

I think a correct reading of the constitution as it is currently understood is that it does not allow for secession, but I don't think Beck is completely coming out of left field.

I believe it is relevant the Lysander Spooner is now remembered as someone who garbled his language, the father of the "Spoonerism."

Still, he was a better speaker than George W Bush.

The mock immolation is probably the craziest Beck stunt thus far, but he's showing remarkable consistency here. What does the future hold for him? A bestselling book? "B" The Magazine? A major motion picture, in which Beck portrays Jefferson, Churchill, and St. Ronnie? I know: Senator Beck!

The ratings for Beck and O'reily may be high. Murdoch should realize that Obama has nearly a 70% approval rating at home and with our allies.

So when Beck,O'reily and Hannity spew their divisive and hate filled rhetoric most of your audience supports the PRESIDENT and not the views your sick anchors.

Most of the FOX audience is not only far right individuals but people who care about their newly elected leader and only  want to keep an eye on his enemies.

If we required certain education levels of everyone in news, media and government, I doubt that it would lead to the average person giving them more credibility. Instead of disparaging the person lets look to what they are saying and debate that on the merits. Anyone who thinks that the Civil War was fought over slavery and slavery alone is mistaken.

While I am not for secession, i do think that the points made by the Texas governor are valid and worthy of debate.
