When did this felon get out of prison?  So now the Relimbautards are using felons for their talking points?

I'm not sure he's ever been in prison.  I think he's out pending an appeal, but I couldn't swear to that, and in any case it's sure moving slowly.

typical comments above, not addressing the point at hand...

there's nothing to "admit" here, at least on DeLay's part...  that question is better asked of Rick Perry...  of course we (I'm a Texican) can't secede legally, under US law...  but if we do secede, because we can, and should, US law would be irrelevant to Texas...  although, things could get quite ugly for a while...   but we can do quite well as a republic, as we were before statehood...  besides, we're bigger than France, so that's reason enough to secede...  and we have guns...  lots of guns...

I have to ask a serious question: do you understand that you are advocating sedition, which is a crime?

I thought all the secession talk was kinda cute at first, but there are obviously people who do hate America and advocate sedition (and amazingly, they call themselves "patriots" at the same time)... it becomes less and less amusing every time.

So I ask again: why do you hate America? Honest question.

honest question, sure...  here's my honest answer...  do I really have to differentiate between a great land, a great people, great institutions and an oppressive government?...

            Mookie,

Fair enough if you want to secede. We'll just have to move that border fence from Mexico to the top of your state, and all around.

If you are an example of the average Texan than good riddens. There are so many there that loved this country so much but now are willing and wanting to leave the country and form their own? That is just so ridiculous I can't explain it.

Texas is a state within the U.S. and you would ignore hundreds of thousands of problems to consider governing yourself. Not to mention the federal government would never allow this sort of thing to occur, and to be honest all of Texas's guns and fringe militias would not be enough to help it from that. Suck it up, Republicans lost the election. It will be okay.

well, of course the feds won't allow it, jeez...  the idea for now is basically our governor, an empty suit with a hairdo, striking a hot button issue while the iron is hot, to stave off Kay Bailey Hutchison's gubernatorial candidacy and perhaps even consider going for the White House...  but it's fun to consider and is seriously appealing in an age where Washington continues squirming it's oppressive tentacles in all aspects of our lives...

Fine, PLEASE, leave my country, Texas.

But Texas has give up this.  And these. And these.

        For starters.

        From the first link:

Dollar Amount of Defense Contracts Awarded to Contractors in this State from 2000 to 2008 $255,920,123,107

Number of Defense Contracts Awarded to Contractors in this State from 2000 to 2008 165,610

The second link is to all the military bases in Texas. And that’s the US Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard, cowgurl, not the Texas Republic Army. More than 100,000 active duty military personnel stationed in Texas. You can say goodbye to them and all the money they’ve been spending in your state, along with whatever taxes they’ve been paying. Have a great life!  Adios!!!!!!!

I have no illusions that secession would be painless...  and the idea is hardly new, what with GWB greasing the skids for Obama during his 2 terms...  but Texas would thrive as an independent nation and become even more attractive to Americans and the Western Hemisphere than it already is now...

I'm not sure "Mookie" is even from Texas. I am, and I don't know any fellow Texans who call themselves "Texicans." We are not all right-wing nuts here, and most of us are loyal Americans. This state was solidly Democratic until the "Reagan Revolution." It is my hope that someday, the scales will be lifted from Texans' eyes as they were from Americans' eyes in the last two election cycles. Hey, Obama even won my county (Bexar, home of the Alamo) last year.

I'm all for you "Texicans" leaving the US, Zip.

You can pay for your own highways, health care, etc. . . not a DIME of help from other states.

In fact, better yet: you can go back to Mexico . . . we'll build that fence at the southern Oklahoma border and pull back the BP . . . I can think of no better reward for all the rabid anti-immigrant nativists to be forced to have to cross the border illegally. LOL!

Recalculate those numbers without having to rely on federal aide, federal programs, federal support, federal agencies, and the US military.  I'll dumb if down for you even further;  Texas is NOT autonomous and if Texas had to attempt to support itself as a sovereign nation, Texas would flounder not rank anywhere except for ranking in failure.  Texas relies on federal programs.  Reality is a b*tch, huh, cowgurl?

And don't forget, that oil rich coastline and Gulf belongs to the US. Texas will not have any rights to those natural resources and will have no armed forces to defend those waters.  Please secede....please do.

As a liberal democrat who lives in the city of Houston, I would be interested to know what you plan on doing with me and my family, when you take the state we live in and "secede" from the Nation we love so dear?   How do you explain to those of us living here, that do not support nor agree with secession, that we are going to no longer be citizens of the United States?

What about those of us who are willing and prepared to fight to protect our homes, land, families, and livelihoods from those that would attempt to "secede" our beloved State?  Would you take up arms against them/us in order to have your beloved secession and make your political statement to the rest of the country that you are willing to shun so easily?

Are you willing to spill my blood, knowing that I would not be moved nor would I support such a thing happening to Texas?

I hope that I have made you understand that this kind of talk, rather it is two guys on an internet message board or spoken by a Govenor, has only one ultimate and inevitable conclusion.  You are talking about Civil War... plain and simple.  In the scenario of Texas seceding from the nation, there would be bloodshed.

what do I plan to do with you and your family?...   you say that like Texas sovereignty is a bad thing...  frankly, I have no plans for you and your's, and your "ney" vote on secession is duly noted...  as for war and bloodshed, if the people of Texas voted to secede, Washington would do well to embrace a new ally rather than to take up arms against the will of one of it's former states...  secession depriving you of your home, land, family and livelihood is a rather bleak outlook...  seriously, if you woke up one day and began life in the Republic of Texas I'm sure you'd still have the things you worked hard for and hold dear...  but worrying about the complications of secession misses the point of this idea, which is basically more than a few Texans have had enough of career politicians telling us we're helpless without their misguided leadership...

Wrong, sir!  Wrong answer!  By seceding from the nation you are taking away everything that I am entitled to as a United States Citizen and telling me that I must recognize a new government.  If I do not recognize this government as the law of the land, if I actually consider it as an illegal election and do not recognize its authority over me, then what is to become of me and those who would agree with me?

Do you honestly believe that you would just have a happy little election and people would allow you to disconnect them from their country without a fight just because you won a majority vote?

There would be resistance.  Armed resistance, sir.  Make no mistake about it.
