Beck: "Whether it's torture," Miss California, or "global warming, we need to protect the right to speak one's mind freely. Is this America or Soviet Russia?"

I love America and all, but can we stop pretending like we have ownership of free speech? Idiots like Beck act like the moment I get off of U.S. soil, every other country is Soviet Russia.

Beck is confusing "freedom of speech" with "freedom from all consequences of one's speech". It's a remarkably common error, especially among the congenitally stupid.

I... just.... WHAT?! What do torture and global warming have to do with free speech? That's insanity. And normally I move the goalposts for insanity a LOT when I'm talking about Beck.

On a side note, you have to REALLY hate gay people to pretend that Miss America is a sacred, bias-free institution to make your point.

What makes it even dumber is that he is attacking Obama's right to tell the public what happened.

Too bad they didn't apply that litmus test to the Dixie Chicks, Barbara Streisand or Linda Ronstadt, among other liberals who they tried to financially wreck for daring to engage in free speech.

Who's stopping Beck from speaking his mind? He's not only free to speak, he's been given national television airtime in order that many more people than those within his immediate vicinity will be able to hear his golden tones.

Not only that, he gets paid to speak! So what's his problem?

That's what I was wondering. All of these alleged attacks on free speech, and he has a TV show (that's showed several times per day), and a radio show where he can express himself however he wants (as we've seen from the Beck postings).

Who is trying to stop his free speech? Nobody...

Beck is completely and totally off the planet in his lunacy.

Who's stopping you Beck?  When in the last 4 months has ANYONE prevented you from voicing every idiotic idea that pops in to your head?

I must have missed the part where Beck is not allowed to ridicule global warming, Miss California was not allowed to say what she said, and torture advocates are staying silent out of fear of reprisals.

Beck, any examples of it? Because there's nothing in the Bill of Rights that says everyone have to agree with your crackpot theories. Just so you know.

Yep, Miss California will definitely go down as one of the great examples of political persecution. So when does she get her Fox show?

Oh please. A: Miss California was behind the runner-up before she got that question. B: She lost because her answer was stupid and inarticulate, not because she said she was against gay marriage. It's no different than that girl talking about "all the people who can't afford maps".

No, we pick on every little detail that is wrong or outright lies.

I love it when you guys play the victim of the alleged PC police.

Jesus, when are people going to stop confusing freedom of speech with freedom to say whatever uninformed/bigoted thing pops into your head without being criticized for it?
