After viewing the clip I have to add this. I'm a white guy. I've been turned down for promotions many times when I was the best qualified person for the job. Sometimes the other person was a white man and sometimes it wasn't. It had nothing to do with affirmative action. Sometimes a hiring manager just decides they like someone better even if they aren't the most qualified. Sometimes they think someone is better for the job based on personality or a million other things. That's life. It's a whole lot different than being systematically excluded from certain jobs based on the color of your skin.

What is happening in New Haven is a travesty, those guys are being denied promotions because they are white, it is that simple. They are better qualified and should be promoted. This is as bad as the policies of the past that kept minorities from advancing. Two wrongs do not make a right. Perhaps we should approach affirmative action from a position of percentages, since black people for example make up about 13 % of the population they should be entitled to no more than 13% of the jobs for example. The census people have the numbers , it would be simple to implement. Boy it would certainly change the NBA.

Ah yes - our "reverse discrimination" plan is coming together nicely. Before long, us white guys will be able to drink from special drinking fountains, not have to sit at the counter in the diner, get our own schools... It'll be a martyrs paradise!

Good lord. When does Buchanan's contract with MSNBC run out?

Every time there is a race-sensitive issue that comes up, they feel like they have dust off this old dinosaur to spew more insensitive uninformed bigotry.

Why not just have an entire show that just puts crack pots and loons on to draw viewers ... Oh, riiiiight, we all have THAT CHANNEL @ FNC!

Joan Walsh did an excellent job trying to explain basic concepts to two people who don't understand the law or business practice and would rather yell than listen than consider an alternative perspective. More heat than light, as usual. I wonder why it didn't occur to Tweety's producers to invite to the show someone who is an expert about this part of the law (such as a good employment attorney or a good industrial psychologist)? They would have clarified the issues in the case rather than shout and get emotional like Tweety and Bucky. They would have been informative and interesting.

If you surf the web for info about this case Ricci v. DeStefano, you'll find it - and learn that a lot of what Tweety and Bucky were fussing about is pretty settled. The key (but not the only) question in the case seems to me to be, once the city set aside the promotion test results because (a) NO blacks passed it and (b) there was inadequate evidence that the results had ANYTHING to do with job performance in the jobs for which the test was used, what DID the city do to select the persons to be promoted?

The simple fact, Pat, is that you'd be out of work if you weren't an angry white man.

WTF? Oh...right Pat...white men are being hung on trees while black families dance and sing songs around the same trees. That's right, Pat...white men are being killed for looking at black women. That's right , Pat....it's exactly the same thing...I mean, we all know white men don't have the right to vote....I mean...yes, Pat...

Is someone forcing Buchanan into chains and making him pick cotton or something?

      S. I Hayakawa said that those who are ignorant of history are doomed to repeat. In Buchanan's case, those who are ignorant of history project victimhood upon themselves, and in so doing land lucrative TV contracts.
