I don't remember the exact quote, but I know it's the words of Jesus in one or more gospels: "When you pray, be not like the Pharisees who pray in public for everyone to see; they have gotten their reward. Instead, pray in a closed room alone, so the Lord can see your heart."

Yeah. I'm sure he'd really vote for whichever party proclaims to have his support, and God's, the loudest.

Jurgan, I believe that's in Matthew 5, the part of the Gospel that Pat Robertson, James Dobson, and the rest of the TV fundies think doesn't apply to them.

It's a lose-lose situation. If Obama was publicly embracing "National Prayer Day", the unhinged and hateful reich-wing losers at Faux would be claiming he's politicizing this event.

Why would Obama choose a church when fox news will attack his Church immediately no matter which one it is

I'm just grateful that we finally have a president who at least seems to acknowledge the Separation of Church and State.

The most delicious part of this is that he has the Troglodytes hyperventilating and rending their garments over the most trivial matters. I love it.

What kind of a Christian reduces religion to a political bludgeon?

the republican kind. You know, the same kind of politician who claims her pregnant out of wedlock teen is gonna be married whether she likes it or not - and then the day after losing the election lets her daughter split up with the father.

Plus, you must remember that these are the same cretins who tried to portray Miss FakeBoobs California as a "victim" of PC for losing a friggin' beauty pageant.

If the reich-wingers lose, they blame it on PC-ness or the media. If they win, they claim it's because we are a "conservative nation". It must be boring living in such a black-and-white reich-wing world.

Did you see she posed for semi-nude pics as a teenager? I'm still trying to wrap my head around the idea that actions like that are acceptable to a "true practicing christian".

I seem to remember something similar happening to Vanessa Williams. What was her reaction? "The best revenge is success." How true that turned out to be. She climbed to the top of the world and Bob Guccione's empire fell to ruin.

The ultimate collector's item: The Cornflakes box with Vanessa Williams' picture on it, wearing the Miss America crown. I remember seeing them in the store. I wish I'd bought one!

      From the Deist:

Thomas Paine wrote in 1794 that all worldly religious institutions are no more than human inventions set-up by men to terrify and enslave vast populations for the monopolizing of power and profit.

A little earlier King Solomon wrote in Ecclesiates, Chapter Four, that he observed all the oppression that takes place in the world and saw the tears of the oppressed with no one to comfort them. He observed that the oppressors had great power and their victims were helpless. He concluded that the dead were better off than the living and most fortunate of all were those who were never born. For they would never have to see all the evil that is done in the this world.

God help those many OPPRESSORS, and you know who you are, if God and King Solomon are real and watching.

Thomas Paine is my hero. I'd be willing to make a deal with the Troglodytes; they can plaster the Ten Commandments on every classroom wall if they'll also make The Age of Reason required reading for every student.

Notice they say that only the last 8 years was this observed publicly. It is very refreshing that our President isn't politicizing his religion or using this day as a PR stunt to appease the conservative masses.
