Oh, for the love of God ... The frackin' SERE program is meant to train U.S. soldiers about TORTURE techniques from enemies like the Chinese did on us in the Korean War.

The heads of the SERE program KNOW this is torture!

SERE is also allowed to break bones. This alone invalidates this argument.

so water boarding is to prepare our guys when they fall into the worst of enemy hands means that its not torture doesn't really make sense saying that its only the worst of our enemies that will do it yet its not torture

If we arrest, try, and convict our own soldiers for acts that "ain't torture," isn't that Exhibit A that waterboarding IS torture?

I can't help but wonder when I hear this argument from the Waterboarding apologists; If it's such a lark, why even use it? How could something so "harmless" intimidate somebody who's willing to blow himself up to kill us?

As I have repeatedly said, Mr Davis, the intention of the person using those torture techniques against a person is relevant. Just like the intention behind someone causing the injury or the death of another person is relevant to the charges, if any, our justice system enforces against the 'guilty' party. A person who kills someone to prevent the injury or death of other people is not guilty of the same crime as someone who kills in a premeditated manner.

When SERE trainers expose our soldiers, sailors and marines to torture techniques, they are not torturing the servicemen. When our US interrogators expose suspected terrorists to torture techniques, they are torturing those detainees.

Intent and motivation are always relevant in these cases.

Actually, since we waterboard them to teach them how to withstand torture, it's Exhibit A in the argument that it IS torture, otherwise why would they have to be conditioned to it?

Having to listen to a complete moron like this Mark Davis or just knowing that this idiot is on the air at all is another form of torture!

Only a weak-minded bully who only thinks he is a tough guy would try and moralize any form of torture being done in the name of a country that supposedly prides itself on the Rule of Law and Constitutional protections.

But, haven't you heard? The reason Right Wingers dominate Talk Radio is because of quality content like this.

I really don't even think these Pro-Torture people are lying. They're so terrified of everything that they've self-hypnotized themselves into believing it.They're perfectly willing to surrender the moral high ground on behalf of our country, and condone our military being subjected to torture, if it helps keep their own pants dry.

That's why I fear that the Pro-Torture side is winning the debate in the media. First, as you point out, enough people are still so terrified of the possibility of another terrorist attack that they don't care what it takes to "keep us safe".

Secondly, the Troglodytes have done a pretty good job of portraying this technique as nothing more severe than a fraternity prank.

Rule of law? PFFFFFT! Don't bother them with such trivialities.
