This clip captures why Chris Matthews is such a ridiculous media figure. How many years has he spent in Washington politics? Isn't his insider experience his great calling card? And yet, like an absolute novice, someone utterly lacking insight or experience, he throws out this completely false -- and baseless -- distinction. This false distinction also betrays some male chauvinisim as well, but that is not exactly new territory for Matthews. If Chris Matthews expects to be taken seriously he is asking too much.

this is further proof (as i believe i have stated time and time again before) that chris matthews is NO far-left liberal, especially on his nbc syndicated show. that is just a ridiculous accusation to make when looking at what he says half the time. now obviously, this post is not labeling what his political stances are, but it proves how he doesnt kiss obama's behind as much as the nutty right claims. they think because he got a "thrill up his leg" and got teary-eyed a few times proves he is in love with obama, so they stick to just those things to try and prove it. however, asking questions and making claims like he did here doesnt help his credibility... he knows better than to misunderstand "empathy" for obama wanting to choose some whackjob for the supreme court who would implement stupid laws.

I think you are right. One of the worst aspects of Matthews' comments in this clip is his implication that Obama has done something wrong ("opened the door"). I do not think there is anything wrong, unusual or strange with President Obama saying he wants a jurist who can empathize based on his or her life experience.

Has President Obama ever said he is looking for someone without the necessary qualifications? If I was a journalist, I might look at what President Obama has said, in total, about the qualifications he is seeking in a nominee to the Supreme Court.
