Though briefed, they ignored warnings about potential terrorist threats. Frankly, I feel safer merely because Bush/Cheney are no longer in power.
So their position on keeping us safe prior to 9/11 was to ignore terrorism. It was only after the attacks that they used anti-terrorism as a tool to retain power and amass wealth.
Maybe those who are privy to the PDB would have a better idea than most of us, but certainly not some moron sitting behind a news desk who's paid exorbitant amounts of money for the sole purpose of making the news sexier.
This has become one of the most meaningless and downright abused talking points out there.
Yeah, back then he was only killing interns and covering it up.
Power seems to make some people stupid and relaxed. I have yet to see the United States employ the most intelligent. We are still employing are good friends sons and our college buddies which is costing us everything. America is it's own worst enemy right now because we won't admit that we are a nation that exhaust priveledge at any cost. The security of Americans will change when influential people's children are at risk. If there was a strategy, we would have seen it locally by now.
Come on now... you know it's true. For years, they accused us of hoping for failure in Iraq... can they now be honest about their own secret longings?
The idea that waterboarding "kept us safe" for 7 years is almost as ridiculous as their arguments against Gay Marriage.
All I'd ask them to do is remember the Somali pirate situation.
It puts our people and soldiers at risk of having the same done to them.
Thank goodness these right-wing loons are no longer in power.
They just happen to shout louder. TDB.
Our foreign policy has consequences. If you pi$$ people off in other countries, sometimes they feel justified in attacking you.
Now, before the "You hate America" nudniks chime in, this is not to say that we "deserved" 9/11 or anything like that. It is simply stating the fact that it's not smart to create enemies unnecessarily.
We are not Superman, and we are vulnerable to various forms of attack. I think it was Teddy Roosevelt who said it best: "Speak softly and carry a big stick." The Bush administration loved the Big Stick part, but ignored the other half of the equation.
Treating other people and other countries with respect almost never hurts anything, as long as you remember to keep up your guard and maintain a healthy skepticism.
They all seem similar to Cheney and Bush lost and confused.
Cheney and Bush took 9/11 and turned a tragedy into an excuse for them to go after the oil fields of Iraq.
Bin Laden family members were allowed to leave the United States.
Torture is watching them be protected while there family member who is suspected of this horrific crime is still at large.
I wonder if Joe could explain why we are less safe today then with the approval of Cheney and Bush allowing the family members of Bin Laden to leave the country the day after 9/11.
Cheney tortured to concoct statements in order to beat the drums toward the Iraq War. Now he and his daughter (shame on him & her) are trying to cover it up.
