Ah.... there it is again. Joe dutifully regurgitating the Republican talking points. Is Nancy Pelosi in these pictures, holding a dog leash or something?

Their defense of the Bush/Cheney crimes has come down to this: "We controlled the whole government, but it's Nancy Pelosi's fault because she didn't stop us from doing these bad things.".

I mean, really.... how lame is that?

It is also the position of the ACLU that the Obama admin is "complicit in the Bush admin's torture policies". Is that the left's talking points? And I am curious , you present a quote and highlight it. Who are you quoting and where did it come from? Or is it just a fictional quote.

The Obama administration is indeed complicate in the torture that Bush and Cheney authorized due to Obama's reversal regarding the release of the photos. That does not, however, make Joe's claim anything more than a pathetic and nonsensical partisan statement.

It's a rhetorical summation...you know...like Rush Limbaugh does every day when he accuses Democrats of hating America and wanting to destroy successful people.

Is there something inaccurate in the statement? Is that not the essence of the Republican position? If not, why not?

The ACLU is hardly the left, unless you count defending Rush and Hannity to be a left-wing tactic.

Ok first off - it's put in "quotes" for satirical purposes - you're acting like a dolt asking what you did about it.

Second - once again you righties fail. You say "Obama is complicit" as if that's some kind of criticism. But he's only in the wrong in as much as he is complisit WITH YOUR PARTY AND THEIR NEFARIOUS DEALINGS. SO even as you criticise HIM, you are admiting the truth of the same critiques against YOU. You know what? Lib's DO think he should release everything. It's only CON'S (and hardly all of them) that want it all hidden

Karl Rove now claims NP was an accomplice to torture:
      http://foxforum.blogs.foxnews.com/2009/05/14/rove_karl_pelosi_torture/

If NP was an accomplice, let her fate be decided with the rest of those who deserve investigation and prosecution.

Wonder if any of Karl's missing emails might have some relevence to events concerning congressional briefings. He's always been a hands on guy, in a remote way.

Karl Rove is hardly a reliable source here. More likely he's just trying to save his own fat neck. If there's any actual evidence then [NP] should be punnished along with the rest of them. But the GOP's leading cheerleader merely pointing his finger at her does not constitute anything even resembling evidence. Not by a damned sight.

Can someone tell me how Nancy Pelosi could have stopped the torture policy in the executive branch, assuming she even knew about it? All answers need to keep in mind that divulging any information from a secret briefing would have been called high treason by many (if not all) of the very right-wing screechmonkeys who are criticizing Pelosi now.

That's an excellent point. Had she leaked this, the Troglodyte Jingofascists would have eaten her for lunch as an "America Hater".

Well, Rep Harman tried, and Pelosi could have joined in the effort but choose not to. That is tacit approval. She did not have the courage that Rep Harman displayed. Certainly a powerful Rep like Pelosi could have worked behind the scenes to correct something that is now so important to her. ....http://www.redstate.com/brianfaughnan/2009/05/05/harman-letter-exposes-pelosis-waterboarding-hypocrisy/

Even if all that is true, what's she guilty of? Hypocrisy? Cowardice? Compared to the abyss that Darth Cheney is peering into, I'll take that any day.

Being silent (ad thus implying consent) is not the same thing as creating, authoring, and actively pushing for the policy being criticised. She did whatever she did (right or wrong) for her own reasons. It may have shown poor judgement (or more liekly just pragmatic judgement), but poor judhement is not a crime. Authorizting (indeed ORDERING) people to be tortured IS. You find a set of orders authorizing torture with her signiture on it? I'll be the loudest one calling for her ouster and indigtment. Otherwise you are just accusing her of being a politician. I for one don't want to punnish the silent republicans either. Just the LOUD ones. Just the ones directly involved.

So did Harman stop torture with her letter? Slow it down? Did it even cause Cheney to hiccup? How do you think adding Pelosi's name to the letter would have changed anything? Especially since making anything public would violate secrecy. Your argument is either naive or plain ignorant of the relevant circumstances.

Secondly, Pelosi says she was not briefed on the use of waterboarding. Harman says Harman was briefed about waterboarding in detail and she protested. Because the meetings were secret, if Harman or her staff shared any information with anyone else (including Pelosi or her staff), it would have been a leak. A violation of secrecy.

I do not see how there was anything the Democrats could have done to stop torture - considering Harman's only real possible recourse was a secret letter on a secret subject that apparently went straigh into the Oval Offices oval file.

This is not nearly as clear cut as Republicans want people to believe. Give me a break.

to what degree of reality detachment does this man function? as a former congressman he should be familiar with the concept that such meetings as pelosi is suggested to have been party to are subject to the secrecy act and cannot be commented on. as open_mind posited pelosi had the authoratative throw weight of a tit-mouse regarding the ENHANCED TORTURE issue. while the GOP is busy altering the nomenclature of the democratic party they might as well replace their elephant logo with the avatar of Dr. Kevorkian.

I'll say it again..."When is MSNBC going to get rid of Joe Scarborough?" He is a right wing talking head and Mika just goes along like she has no brains of her own.
