        Its funny how conservatives only like New York when it is in refference to 9/11. The worst day in American history is the only thing Beck likes about New York. Stay classy...and sober Glen!

      Beck is citing Pastor Niemoller's famous poem, "First they came..."

      In Germany, they came first for the Communists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Communist;
      And then they came for the trade unionists, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a trade unionist;
      And then they came for the Jews, And I didn’t speak up because I wasn’t a Jew;
      And then... they came for me... And by that time there was no one left to speak up."

      I suspect that at least the first two groups in that poem, communists and trade unionists, are people Beck would have been happy to see taken away.

        Update:

        First they came for the Gestapo, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't Gestapo
        Then they came for the SS, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't SS
        Then they came for the Hitler Youth, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Hitler Youth
        Then the came for the wingnuts (Beck, Limbaugh, O'Rightwing, etc.) and there was no one to speak up
        but then, no one really objected

          My thoughts too. Beck is assuming his kind are last on the list. Funny thing is, this is happening in the republican party right now. Look how they are trying to purge anyone who even blinks moderate. What's gonna happen when the right wing fully purges their "big tent" (snicker!) party and still loses?

        Wow, I thought I knew what that poem was about, but apparently I was wrong. When Niemoller wrote that they "came for" the Communists, trade unionists and Jews, he meant that the government bailed out their failing businesses! Boy do I have egg on my face.

      I did not listen to or watch the clip above (I don't listen to or watch glenn beck clips, sorry... no more than do I stare into the toilet bowl after I've done my business there), but I did want to comment from seeing the item's headline, that I don't know much about holocaust poetry, and didn't even think there was such a thing.

      Certain things inspire poets, and some things do not... some things even uninspire (if that's a word) poets, and I would have guessed the holocaust to be one of those things.

        You should check it out.Not that paranoid fools version but the actual poem. It's quite moving. I would call it a warning rather than a poem. A little creep like Beck should not even be allowed to repeat the words.

      Un.Be.F'ing.Lievable.

      I'm trying to find a way to express my disgust that this rabid member of the hatemonger class who day in day out promotes fear has the audacity to even THINK of quoting that poem.

      Crass, irony challenged, bloviating smeghead.

      He must be wheeling his testicles around in a wheelbarrow at the moment after this false equating.

      I will probably post this question elsewhere as well, but I'd like to get some feedback on this: Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity (the dumb Rush Limbaugh) and Glenn Beck (the retarded Sean Hannity), how much of their on-air persona is real and how much is it an act?

      Glenn Beck had a radical shift when 1. He went to Fox and 2. Obama was elected. Before, he was just a loud "guy at the end of the bar," giving "common sense" and "regular guy" views. Since the shift, he found his inner Howard Beal and "Left Behind". I don't know if it was an accident or intentional, but I believe once he got ratings with it, he's gone completely off the reservation.

      Again, just wanted some other viewpoints on this.
      Thanks

        Beck has said some eye-poppingly nasty things long before he was ever on Fox (or on CNN for that matter). I like your Limbaugh>Hannity>Beck formulation.

        Agreed on the Limbaugh->Hannity->Beck inheritance properties. I think Hannity is pretty close to his on-air idiocy. Limbaugh may be less so. Beck is more the showman and therefore I suspect more phony but that doesn't mean sane.

        It's 99.9% an act. They're in it ONLY for the money and all they have to do is spout hate and they've got a ready-made audience listening/watching every day.

        Except for Hannity (who would have been a huge success on German radio in the 1930s), I think they're mostly egotistical radio guys who floundered around in the 70s, 80s or early 90s trying to find an angle that would pay them big bucks. They finally settled into the conservative movement where a combination of deregulation, narrow-minded listeners and narrow-interested media execs gave them a profitable platform to say anything and everything with no regard for reality. Kind of a perfect storm situation.

        It's comparable to the "sport" of big-time wrestling. Everyone connected knows it's just a scripted show, yet the audiences still support this charade with huge turnouts and lots of money and a dazed willingness to passionately swallow whatever they hear shouted at them by the guy yelling into the microphone.

        I know that's a pretty basic view but I can remember when The Incredible Hulk could get away with torture in full view of cheering fans.

        I had never heard of Dr. Eugene Scott before and thought at first you were comparing Beck to Eugenie Scott (whom I like), which would have made no sense.

        Of course there's another Dr. Scott you could compare Beck to, "or should I say, 'Von Scott'?"

      To compare the current situation with the holocaust via poetry belittles the immense pain the survivors of that horrific ordeal had to live thru.
      Shame on you Beck,you're not the victim of anything but your own monumental ignorance.

      It is called federal taxes, Mr. Beck. The holocaust poem has nothing to do with businesses. It is about people. If the government came after the banks, why are they still in business?
      The auto companies? A point can go no further than the line it took. Bad lines are very clear.
