OK< I'll compare priests to pedophiles. Which one is closer to the truth?

"The President admitted he doesn't know when a child gets human rights..." Wow...a so-called man of God just told a lie amd bore false witness against the President. He never said any such thing.

I think MMFA is stretching that comment just a little bit. I don't think he was making a direct comparison.

You are right he was not making a direct comparison only using it as a comparative argument.

His point would seem to be that some positions are so extreme that Notre Dame should not recognize the person holding them. If that's relevant at all to the discussion, then he's comparing being blatantly racist or pro-terrorist to being pro-choice. That's pretty ridiculous, since support for abortion rights is much more mainstream than either of those things.

It's like if your boss fired you for being ten minutes late once, after six months of being punctual, then they say they could fire you for stealing, so they do have the right to fire you. Either it's a false equivalence or it's a straw man argument. Either Pavone is saying that these things are comparable, or he's tearing down the fictional argument that Notre Dame can't discriminate based on someone's wildly extremist views.

Either way, it comes off as less than reasoned and thoughtful commentary.

Seems like he is the go to guy for Fox about all things allegedly "controversial" and all. Except this dude is a super duper wing nut. This guy should be a prime example of why Atheism is a good thing.
