The sad thing is that I've had "discussions" about this with people on this site who believe that Obama is a baby killer.

The whole "Pro-Life" movement is such a sucker deal.Too many of the same people who easily justify killing adults, children, and whatever fetuses happen to be inside those "suspected terrorists" can soother their consciences by taking the easy moral high ground on the abortion issue. I'm not saying that some of them aren't sincere and consistent, just the most outspoken ones seem to use it to make themselves feel better.

I also get a little tired of people who are old enough that they're probably never going to have sex again, let alone experience an accidental pregnancy, looking down their noses at pro-choice people.

It's the same sort of simple-minded morality used by those who don't understand the basic American legal principles that make sure accused criminals have proper counsel. I heard a caller to one of the righty radio shows the other day, some woman trying to sound completely disgusted, asking "Who are these lawyers representing the terrorists?"

Yes, I've heard these tapes. They were alleged to have been made in the Illinois State Legislature as Obama was arguing in favor of a bill that would protect doctors when, having delivered a fetus that was intended to have been aborted, but is still alive after leving the vaginal canal, the fetus is set aside in a tray or pan and allowed to finish dying of natural causes, usualy hypothermia, exsanguination, suffocation or rarely, starvation.

Is someone claiming this recording is faked? I hadn't heard that. It certainly sounds like Barak Obama. I suppose that there are witnesses or transcripts as well. Could someone post a reference to the evidence that refutes these tapes?

      Thank you.

ewl, I'd suggest you look up some info. on this topic from some credible news sources, then go to some past items here at MMFA on the subject. The basic premise , as presented by Limbaugh, is very weak propaganda.

ewl....can you provide a link of such tapes....and by the way I do a "spot on" impersonation of Obama so a voice tape conversation is easy to construct for propaganda purposes.

I have a tape of Limbaugh confessing that he uses drugs...oh wait...that was at an NA meeting....never mind.

“The reason I’m pro-choice is because I don’t think women take [abortion] casually. I think they struggle with these decisions each and every day. And I think they are in a better position to make these decisions ultimately than members of Congress or the president of the United States.”

NRLC Recycles Debunked Born Alive Attacks

independent FactCheck.org, since state, not federal law, governs the actual practice of abortion care, even with the stipulation that the bill does not provide protections to "any member of the species homo sapien at any point prior to being born alive as defined in this Section," the bill could still have been used to interfere with abortion provisions. A 2003 Planned Parenthood fact sheet explained:

"SB 1082 & SB 1083 are NOT the same as the so-called "Born Alive Infant Protection Act" which was recently passed in the U. S. House. The federal legislation is considered to be a restatement of existing federal law. It does not amend or change current Illinois law. Federal law does not regulate abortion practice. That is left to the states. Therefore, it is state legislation that would affect abortion practice in Illinois. The package of SB 1082 & SB 1083 creates new provisions in Illinois law. Although the definition is similar to the proposed federal legislation, its application would have a different impact on state abortion law."

Also, unlike the federal bill, the package of bills under consideration by the Illinois State Senate included a measure that would have permitted legal action "on the child's behalf." In other words, doctors and health care facilities could be held liable for damages, "including costs of care to preserve and protect the life, health and safety of the child, punitive damages, and costs and attorney's fees," if the hospital, health care facility or health care provider "harms or neglects the child or fails to provide medical care to the child after the child's birth."

So the bill would have INCREASED litigiousness in Illinois. Funny how right wingers are so against suing corporations for product liability and doctors for general malpractice. But give them a fetus lawsuit and they're good to go.
