What they are doing with that resolution is showing us what a bunch of petulant spoiled brats they are. No wonder they have no alternate plans to present, they are too busy pointing fingers and name calling to be effective!

And it's not even effective name-calling, either. This has been done to death already. Obama was called a socialist during the campaign, all it did was make socialism seem more palatable. Seriously, one in six people goes without health insurance in this country, and Republicans claiming that giving people that insurance is "socialist" isn't going to make John Q. Public think he doesn't need it. What's the thought process supposed to be there? "If I were to get seriously ill, it would be utterly catastrophic for me and my entire family...but I'll be damned if I'll accept a government plan because that's socialist! I'll die first!"

Joe the Plumber might think that way, but normal people don't.

I think the funny/scary thing here is that Republicans actually have considered this seriously enough that we know how the RNC chairman feels about it.

I am not completely opposed to conservatism, but these guys have apparently completely given up on arguing their points reasonably. It's such a joke.

Congrats to Cathie Adams; it takes a pretty special brand of wingnut to make Cavuto look like the reasonable one.

If this happened, what would the effect be? The Democratic Party would just ignore it, and one would assume so would the general public. I think renaming your opponents would just make the Republicans look petty

How are they "defining socialism"? Isn't it already defined?
      Yep, here it is.

How else would you define a political system? That's like saying the definition of particle physics is too scientific.

Absolutely. It took only a few seconds before she got the fixed-smile-deer-in-the-headlights look. That woman had no idea how to respond to his basic point, which was that this is schoolyard name-calling by the party that should be offering an alternative.

I never thought I'd see the day that I actually agree with Cavuto, but on this issue I think he's dead on.

          "Schoolyard" is the perfect description.

Cavuto nailed it with the Reagan analogy. He deserves credit for looking at it from the opposing perspective instead of buying into the partisan nonsense. Would Republicans have thought it to be worthwhile, meaningful or mature for Democrats to pull this sort of stunt after Reagan was elected? Of course they wouldn't.

All these people are doing is showing people that they don't have anything substantial to offer. They can't compromise in good faith, they can't offer up anything but stale ideas, and they can't even act like adults. What's the motivation to care about what they think at all?

How stupid and ridiculous can republicans be? No, seriously? This isn't some fringe group, this is a major group of republicans talking about doing this. And anyway, how are they going to identify or re-name a group of people that they have no control or association with anyway?

Keep rolling republicans, we'll take a lot more seats at mid terms than we already will if you keep up with this BS.

I can't begin to say how funny this is. Someone on "their side" sees how stupid and petty the republican party is being. Well at least now the Democrats can't say the republicans have no new ideas. They came up with this one all by themselves. This is one of the most childish examples of leadership I have ever seen. You don't even encourage children to do something as wasteful as this. Wasting time, energy, paper and brain cells. I love it. Keep it up. It makes you look so much smarter than the Democrats and the public is behind you 100%! Dimwits!

I just think Cavuto's oddly calm voice and the repeating of her name was strangely hypnotic and laced w. secret messages. I wonder if a man had been on instead would Cavuto have talked to him in the same odd tone. "Dear, please go back home and cook dinner. You know you want to. Go ahead, go ahead, on home with you."

There are so many things odd about this clip.

Practically every Fox bobblehead tosses the word socialism around like some people say um---why the reluctance now?

Although it has been years since I got my degree in political science, I'm pretty sure that even if Adams is right, 17 percent government control hardly hits the socialist bulls eye.

Then there's the whole thought process attached to this idea. They can't change the name, only how they refer to the Democrats.
I find it hard to believe that people actually sat around a table and decided that this idea will have any positive impact with the voters. This silliness only makes the Republicans look more marginal and behind the times than they already are.
If anything, they should be more worried about 2010 and all the negativity associated with the Republican brand. If any party needs rebranding, it isn't the Democratic Party.
