So the recession was a grand stroke of luck for people who just want to spend more money. I see that sort of reasoning by conservatives too often here.

"You're just attacking O'Reilly because you're partisan...the fact that he was surprised that black people can act like civilized people in a public place is just an excuse!"

      Oh, yeah, Dickie?

Well, the Iraq War was designed to drain the treasury and put tons of money in the pockets of Bush/Cheney's rich buddies.

      So, there.

I'm pretty sure the Bush/republican plan was to spend us into slavery.

People, people... keep in mind when commenting that the previous 8 years never happened. All you should concentrate on are the days since January 20th.

The recession was the reason. Did you have a crystal ball that said O'Bama would come in after the Bush Administration and create a bail out strategy. Or did you have a plan within your party to take over GM and sell it to the Chinese. Did you lose money in the stock you had? Did the plan not fall through?

So sad these days that Hannity spends so much time with Beck, Limbaugh & Morris the idiots he knows will not mention water-boarding and will agree with everything he says. What a coward.

Dear Dick, Do to deregulation from Carter through Bush II this was going to happen and it just exploded during the Boy Emperors Reign and he did a Hoover and just let it go.Economist from both sides have said the stimulus was too small and it will need an injection of more $$$$$ sooner or later and that it will work and is working.Don`t forget that Boy George spent Clinton`s $275 billion surplus like a tornado going thru Kansas and two wars and a $9 trillion debt.Socialism works because the 98 percent of us in this country need social safety nets like Police,Fire depts, good roads, libraries, water, sewage, health care that we are struggling with since Reagan started his assault on the middle and working class of this country.

And Morris also predicted that McGrampa would win the White House and the GOP would regain the majority in 2008. A job well done.

Shrimper Morris also originally predicted that Hillary wouldn't run for the Senate, then that she wouldn't win, and finally that she wouldn't be reelected. I wouldn't trust his expertise if he told me the sun was going to rise in the east.

His hatred towards the Clintons is pathological. Any predictions involving them are just malicious hopes behind a thin veil.

That is the first symptom on conservatism.

Morris' comments are logically incoherent. Since consumer and business spending are declining, and since the world wide nature of the recession prevents exports from producing a recovery, government spending is the only way to stimulate the economy. In other words, government spending is the stimulus. The statement that the goal was to increase government spending, not stimulate the economy is, therefore, just silly.

Also, given that all the predictions are for an anemic recovery (1% growth), the increase in government spending would be justified even if the recession is (technically) over by 2010 (no sure thing BTW).

Morris' comments are psychologically interesting--- when speaking to the closed minded, you don't really need to make sense (let alone be correct) to find an audience.
