This guy (Levin) is a riot. I tune him in on the way home from work on occasion and especially love when these poor dumb folks call in and address him as "doctor". The fools don't understand that unless you're an academician (in a shared field of study or discipline) you only address a physician, dentist, or shrink as Doctor. Putting this ranting degenerate in any one of those professions would truly be frightening.

Levin is the "Messiah" of right wing nut cases. They call him "The Great One". Rush does and so does Hannity. Whatever he talks about in the evening Rush and Sean go with it the next day. He is the brains of the entire operation.

Levin is dumber than a tree stump. His only 'talent' is yelling on the radio and talking over 'libs'. His books completely suck, including his doggie book. I read it with the hope that it would be a truly memorable story about his dog Sprite but it turned out to be a juvenile whinefest with references to Rush and his own 'career' and his health issues galore.

Oh, did I say that the book was supposed to be about his dog?

I'm hoping this one is a picture book! A color-by-numbers one would be nice, but learning to coordinate numbers and colors would have taken him another 18 months. I can't wait to see the cross-dressing dinosaurs, though! Isn't that what Tyranny means (to Levin)?

Thanks, Preston, if by "great wit" you mean the Jr. High BJ jokes.

Levin just recently got on the radio here in SoCal, or I just hadn't been fortunate to have stumbled on his show, and he is really a ridiculous pile of nothing.

As others have mentioned, his listeners call him "Dr.", and "The Great ONe", and he constantly refers to himself as an intellectual, and a great thinker, and he seems to convince his slow-witted fans that it's true because he says it is.

I hear something different, a man with the voice and brain of an adenoidal adolescent nerd, whining & shrieking about every bit of reality that doesn't fit into his right wing dominance & submission fantasy.I'd recommend a listen to anyone srudying logical fallacies who needs some examples.

Good job, Bullethead. This site does report on "news for those with special needs", aka conservative media.By describing Levin as "brilliant", you've eliminated the need for any further testing on your part.

The good news is that, if you muster up all of your mental horsepower, and read the items here, and try to understand, you have the power to move up to Regular Class. The day that you recognize Levin and his clones as propagandists pandering to the below-average American, you'll have accomplished something to be proud of.

I listened to the clip purely for the reason to hear what particular "great philosophers" were these people following... I saw the quote and it drew me in:

"we... stand on the shoulders of the great philosophers and scholars and thinkers throughout human history"

      Such as who?

I mean, what's the point of implying that you agree with the thinking of someone else, be they a "great philosopher" or not, but then neglecting to say whose thinking it is you agree with or otherwise follow or are taught by?

Pointless... I should have known better... I should have known no particular name would have been offered, just the empty "great philosophers" label...

I'm left to just guess who these "great philosophers" might be...

Well guess what, everybody in the world can say the same thing, can say they stand on the shoulders of "great philosophers", or kneel at their feet or whatever, in rapt attention at and absorbing of their every Golden Saying, as a disciple of their wisdom...

But so what, it's just another way of saying "I'm smart", without saying anything smart, or without saying why you're so danged smart...

Here's my proclamation of what makes me so smart:

"I and we and everybody who thinks like me, we are the disciples of true human wisdom and of all truths... we are keepers of the right way, by way of the Golden Sayings we keep... if great philosophy has any children, then we are them, and we carry great philosophy's name with us, in the name of the great philosophers, whose shoulders we stand on, so that we may see so much farther than the rest of you peons"

Except what's the point of such empty crowing, if you don't say the single name of any philosopher great or small, or even quote any Golden Saying, or say anything really wise or even truthful...

Unless it's considered the truth to say you know the truth, without bothering to say what it is you know, leaving people to guess you're smart I guess.

"The Great Philosophers" is straight out of Leo Strauss, the philosopher of the Neocons. He believed in using fundamentalist religions to pacify and divide the common working class, to allow the wealthy to rule the planet by destroying unions and the middle class. Frightening stuff. And it's been done before.

I downloaded a sample of the book and in just the first chapter, he made numerous mistakes. He first railed against, as expected, FDR's policies but says that the spending did work.
He also throws out the usual red meat by asserting that Democrats don't believe in or support the Declaration of Independence. You would think an assertion like that would be followed by numerous examples to prove the point but, no, Mark couldn't be bothered with any of that, it's enough to just say it because, like you know, man, it's like totally true.
The book is #2 on the NYT best-seller list which shows that Mencken was correct that no one ever went broke underestimating the taste of the American people.

The only 'philosopher' who comes to mind is Ayn Rand. I've been slugging it out on a conservative blog with people who actually believe in 'The Virtue of Selfishness' and the other incoherent nonsense that serves as a rationalization for free-market libertarian bull$#!t.

There are a few more pieces in the series, but the conclusion remains the same: we need to get rid of the government and let the market determine what is right, because only the market is capable of doing so without force while maximizing freedom. Sound familiar?
