      What? Reaganesque ?

You mean secretly fund killers in Latin America ?

Sell arms to Iran to fund the effort ?

Backdoor negotiations to free hostages ?

Lie to the American people ?

Lead all Presidents with 32 convictions of his administration ?

      Double the national debt ?

We'll hope Obama doesn't ever become Reganesque.

November 13, 1986 (in his first public statement about the allegations of secret arms-for-hostages negotiations with Iran)

"In spite of the wildly speculative and false stories of arms for hostages and alleged ransom payments, we did not -- repeat did not -- trade weapons or anything else for hostages nor will we."

March 3, 1987 (from a televised address in which he admitted to the findings of the Tower Commission)

"A few months ago, I told the American people I did not trade arms for hostages. My heart and my best intentions still tell me that's true, but the facts and evidence tell me it is not."

He wasn't just some frikkin' democrat who hates Jesus. The American people have become like little 2-year olds.

Actually, most of what you just posted was the result of VP CIA Bush and ALL of his cocaine cronies' dirty work. Including Bill Cocaine Clinton, his Arkansas Mena Airport, his ex-trooper buddy LD Brown, Barry Seal, etc...
Bush's connections went far deeper than Ronald Reagan's. The Conservative Mob used Reagan because they knew he would win the hearts and minds of the people in a John Wayne type of way. Then they hijacked Reagan's presidency.
Bush was the CIA man, not Reagan.

BS. Reagan was not Bush Jr. and Bush Sr. was no Dick Cheney. Reagan KNEW what the hell was going on. If Bush had the CIA contacts, Reagan used Bush as much as (or far more than) the other way around. Why do you think his biggest in-party rival got tapped to be VP? As to your Clinton connection? Give me a link or I'm calling 'paranoid conspiracy theory' balderdash.

Exactly. I'm curious as to how Clinton could be involved in a deal to trade arms for hostages in a middle eastern country -- while in the Governor's Mansion in Arkansas.

Then again, its always been a favorite theme of the right to hold Clinton responsible for the actions of all subsequent administrations {until Obama was elected, anyway} -- so, I guess it was just a matter of time before he would be held responsible for the actions of a PREVIOUS one.

What's next, blaming Clinton for Pearl Harbor?

"Is President Obama being Reaganesque enough?"

As long as Obama's poll numbers keep going lower.... then yes, Obama is being like Ronnie Ray-Gun!

As soon as President Obama starts acting like Senator (in campaign mode) Obama... then his numbers will climb.

I just wish President Obama would understand that...

No, Obama still has all his mental faculties. When Obama starts mistaking movies for real life, he'll be Reaganesque.

Nice reference coming from someone who worked one administration and four years away from RR's least effective years.

Oh, and btw Georgie, Reagan left office 20 YEARS and light years in technology and information ago.

It seems no pundit wants to take the facts into consideration when lionizing the B actor.

I never could have convinced anyone of this at the time, but I actually always thought that the elder Bush was a better president than Reagan. I'm not sure how he would have been with a second term, and [the republican'] reign would have ended as soon as Dan Quayle was at the top of the ticket (kind of a 1990's Sarah Palin) but as much as I liked Reagan (hey: I was 7 when he was elected, and even at 7 I knew that things were f-ed up under Carter!) I actually liked Bush'41 better.

George, check your calendar...it's 2009. Many voters don't even remember Ronald Reagan. And those who continue to envoke Reagan's memory are living in a time warp.

People who try to evoke Reagan's memory are remembering a Reagan who Never Was- a Reagan who shrank the government, effectively projected American strength around the world, balanced the budget, and got Roe v. Wade overturned. They worship THAT Reagan, and never you mind that he never existed.

I always like the comment that Reagun helped to bring down the Soviet Union. Uh,,,,, only in that by throwing money at Star Wars project he gave the Soviet Union more reason to spend money they didn't have on defensive systems, thus maybe moving the fall of the Berlin Wall up a couple of months. No matter who was in office at the time, the Soviet Union was going to collapse, it was just a matter of when.

Although I will give Reagun his due. He was the best actor who has served as POSTUS.
