      Chuck, I love ya. But....

When Carl Bernstein offers his insights on covering the White House, your best bet is to listen and take good notes.

Thumb's up, except for the "love ya" part.

        Agreed.

Chuck's defense was mighty weak. He would have been best served to just listen and learn. He probably felt compelled to say something simply because they had him in the 2-shot.

I don't understand what his point is though. Doesn't going there and asking the questions count as reporting?

I think Bernstein's point is that reporting shouldn't end with the daily briefing, because the press secretary is giving message points, rather than objective truths.

          I think thats the truth......

Real reporting is done on the ground level or in a garage parking lot in order to get to the real truth.

Right. Since it's recorded, and some of it makes it on air, it's a performance event, and reporters out to make a name for themselves do ESPN-type "look-at-me's". Real reporting is done, as has been posted here, in shady nooks with low-level idealists or discontents.
Control of "access" to higher-ups has gelded most of the Corporate Media.

That is funny. When Bush 43 was president, FOX was on overdrive.

What was funny was how Chuck sort of played the victim and then Carl said they have to stop being victimized.
