I'd like to thank Willie for admitting that there are some "Real Americans" in New York.

Who gets to define "real Americans"?

Mika keeps mentioning polls, but I thought a majority of Americans rejected Sarah Palin last November. Are those voters "faux Americans"?

Collapsing under pressure is not " connecting with real americans " much like Nixon " connected with real americans ". Ms Brzezinski may connect with Palin on a personal level but don't iclude me in that bunch..

I consider myself a real American, and I don't agree with anything Palin has to say really.

Does that not make me a "real American". Or does Mika mean by real Americans, the ones who were at her rallies shouting out about killing Obama? You mean those real Americans?

Get with it Mag, those stories about Palin's supporters "shouting out about killing Obama" have long ago been widely discredited. But then again, I suppose you wouldn't know that if you get the majority of your info from Media Matters, the Daily Kos and MSNBC and other lefty so-called "news" organizations.

Where do you get your "news"? From Fox? If so, you have no right to throw stones since about 99% of the so-called "news" on Fox is not "news" at all, it's simply opinion.

They have not been discredited. From what I read, the FBI or Secret Service could not find any Palin supporters at the rally to confirm it happened. I cannot imagine why Palin supporters would deny it. Can you?

I do not consider that discrediting unless you can point out something else I have left out.

You make absolutely no sense "open mind." You acknowledge that the reports couldn't be substantiated, not even by Secret Service and other law enforcement officials present at the rally, yet you're willing to believe the hearsay. Only one person present at the rally apparently heard the remark, and she was a Washington Times reporter who was probably in the tank for Obama, just like most other media players. Goes to show that the rabid left will believe whatever is fed to them by the MSM.

My bad, she was a Washington Post reporter, not Times. Does that make it more believable? Plus why is it so hard for you to believe when most of the media is in the tank for Obama. He's gotten more positive coverage than any other president this early on. And it certainly can't be because of his fiscal policies or his foreign policy. Hell, it took him a week after urging by Hilary Clinton to finally say how appalled he was at what was happening in Iran.

The truth (if you care to believe it):

                  1) People did should "kill him" at the rallies. It's on the youtube.

                  2) Secret Service/law enforcement couldn't find out WHO said it. Not that it wasn't said.

                  3) Obama gets positive coverage because his policies are popular. Logical, huh?

                  4) And you know nothing about the politics of Iran. They ayatollahs would like nothing better for the US to meddle in their affairs.

                    1) Find it on youtube and link it if you're so sure it's there.
                    2) The Secret Service said the allegation is unfounded. Read it for yourself: http://www.timesleader.com/news/breakingnews/Secret_Service_says_Kill_him_allegation_unfounded_.html
                    3) Americans are becoming increasing concerned about Obama's policies: http://www.reuters.com/article/topNews/idUSTRE55H06I20090618

Nope. Other than the paper and the gender, you were absolutely correct. David Singleton from the Times Tribune Scranton filed the report. He is the one who said he heard it and the paper has not issued a retraction nor backed down from Singleton's claim to my knowledge.

...[I]t took him a week after urging by Hilary Clinton to finally say how appalled he was at what was happening in Iran.

That is a matter of opinion. The Iranian election took place on a Friday. The results were known on Saturday. Obama made his first comments on Monday - which I believe were adequate to the task. Had Obama tried to stir things up with the kind of talk that satisfies the conservative death cult, Obama likely would have done more damage to the movement in Iran. It may not have satisfied you or some conservatives, but I believe Obama's statements were carefully considered and well done.

I totally agree with all of your posts. I love the way the libs say Fox has no credibility or isn't a real news station. Yet they're more than willing to believe everything MSNBC says. Do they really think "Gets a Thrill Up His Leg Matthews," and "Keith Overbite" are objective and not bias!! Come on. At least Fox does give both sides and it's news sources are not the Daily Kos & Media Matters.

We say Fox isnt a real news station and they have no credibility for a very good reason. They arent a real news station and they have no credibility. They went to court to protect their RIGHT to lie. If you think Tweety Matthews is a liberal you are too delusional to be taken seriously. MSNBC has conservatives ON their station. Fox is a joke. If you cant see that then get help.

Just because the claim cannot be confirmed does not mean that it did not happen. I would not expect Palin supporters to confirm they heard something that was obviously damaging to their candidate. What is there not to understand here?

Secondly, you are obviously confused as to what consitutes "hearsay", so your lack of comprehension as to the rest of my post is quite understandable. The reporter is not claiming someone else heard or claims to have heard the remarks. The reporter is a direct witness to the remarks. Hearsay is not an issue here.

Thirdly, I find it odd that you see an agenda in the reporter's observation (without providing any credible evidence of it), but you seem to trust blindly partisans at a political rally.

Yes, I certainly see an agenda when no one else, NOT EVEN SECRET SERVICE AND LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICIALS PRESENT AT THE RALLY, can corroborate her comment. I find it absolutely incredulous that you can state as fact that this happened when there is nothing at all to substantiate the claim and, as you say yourself, without providing any credible evidence of it. THAT's what I don't understand. And her "direct witness" account would never hold up in a court of law without something to back it up. Yet here you are buying anything negative the media has to say about Palin, hook line and sinker, just because you don't like the woman.

I'm beginning to have a bit of an existential crisis. Am I not "real?" I know that I'm an American. Many of my friends and family are American as well. But none of us are going to miss Sarah Palin. She's an extremist - but that's not the worst of it. She is simply to self-absorbed. If you listened to her rambling speech the other day, she kept using the same crutch: "Everything I do is in the best interest of Alassssska." And that's simply not true. She is just trying to prop her own stature up and looking to cash in on what remains of her 15 minutes.

So I guess my views make me a "fake American?"

You're right... Sarah Palin is looking out for Sarah Palin. And, really, I guess I can't blame her. If somebody was dangling multi-million dollar deals in front of my face, I'd quit my job today.

I suspect that Simple Sarah will soon be joining the ranks of Right Wing Professional Liars, either on the Radio or on Television... maybe both. She might even "write" a political column, if she can convince whoever is ghost-writing her book to stay on.

Again, I cry no tears for Sarah... she'll be rolling in money very soon.

Self-serving right down to her "drill baby drill". There seems to be a conflict of interest there as well. Considering that every single member of her family would be receiving big fat residual checks from the oil and gas production.

Like Hannity she claims to be a Christian yet she can not open her mouth without lying. She is also a vindictive tyrant, ask anyone in Wasilla that dared to confront her on anything.

At least your posts aren't constantly riddled with spelling/grammar/punctuation/syntax errors and almost completely unintelligible... you know, unlike those who have been very poorly programmed to spread their holey (as in argument) GOPspel.

A "delete/edit" button would definitely be nice, though.

She's a losing VP candidate who just quit in the middle of her ethically-challenged first term as Governor of Alaska where her popularity has declined 30-35 points in the past year because she's done nothing for the State of Alaska but go AWOL attempt to bill the taxpayers to live in her own house.

Her appeal is limited to 80 percent of the 20 percent comprising the brain-dead, bigoted-trash, scum vote.

The rest of the gops, to say nothing of the rest of the American People, either dislike her or detest her.

                  She's dumb, bigoted, ignorant, ill-informed, factually-challenged, fundamentally-dishonest, twisted, tea-bagger trash.

I grew up in small western towns and middle, middleclass suburbs. I attended public schools and universities and I don't really know anyone who is either rich or famous or powerful. I don't even know anyone who lives in New York City, and while I do live close to D.C., anyone I know there is strictly working class. Granted, being a civil servant and being married to a fellow civil servant does make me unusual as does my extended residence in Asia while working for the Federal government. It took me years to get over the feeling of needing to show my ID to the Walmart greeter or resist the desire to get out of my car and face the direction of the flagpole when it is time to retreat the colors and I will probably always miss hearing the National Anthem at the movie theater, even though I cringed every time some soldier shouted "Play Ball" at the end. Yet, I have never considered myself anything but a real American. I teared up at Mass yesterday when we sang "America the Beautiful." But I guess being a pro-choice, liberal Democrat, who doesn't listen to country music and believes in gun control, no Christian prayers or displays of the Protestant version of The Ten Commandments in public spaces and believing that Muslims, Jews, and Hindus, can be real Americans, too makes me less of an American to Governor Palin or to Mika. So be it.

"Real Americans" as we learned in the 2008 election cycle, is simply Republican codeword for conservatives that believe anything spoonfed to them by the likes of Joe the Plummer, Sarah Baracuda, Rush Limbaugh and Fox News.

That's why no one here can be a "real American". You cannot disagree with conservatives AND be a Republican "real American".

Sarah Palins views? Pro-life = Shooting wolves with assault rifles from helicopters, allowing them to limp around bleeding to death for several hours? Her Pro-life view is to torture these animals as much as possible before they're made extinct!

I'm a real Christian American from one of the most conservative Christian areas in the country, and I find Sarah Palin to be one of the most divisive, hate-filled human beings I've ever encountered. She does NOT represent true Christianity NOR true conservatism. She is self-centered, even to the detriment of her own children, and incompetent, to boot.

I should also point out that she is wrong when she says the for the first time the Gallup tracking poll (I think she means FOX News/Opinion Dynamics Poll. May 12-13, 2009. N=900 registered voters nationwide. MoE ± 3.) shows more people are pro-life than pro-choice.
According to PollingReport.com, where the above poll is found, that same Fox poll showed 49% pro-life and 43% pro choice. That poll showed more pro-life on 4/4/09 as well as for 2000 and 2001.
I'm truly astonished that she could be wrong, but, well, there you have it.

I always wonder about the questions that are posed in some of the polling. I was happily answering robo call polling questions one evening regarding abortion and choice issues (voiced by Mike Huckabee). I had a glass of wine at the time, and I think that based on the wine and the weirdly written double negative questions asked of me, I answered a question or two that made me come across as anti-choice.

Here's the thing, I am pro-life, but very much pro-choice. I trust that women will choose what is right for their lives.

Real American indeed! This is why I stopped watching "Morning Joe." I used to see Ms. Brzezinski as a voice of reason on MJ, but she was brought over to "Mourning Joe's" side.

Real Americans are those citizens who love this country no matter what political stripe they are. Real Americans are those citizens who who stay loyal to this country and its ideals and do not join groups that want to secede from it. Real Americans make promises and keep them. Real Americans do not engage in the politics of personal destruction, and then get their feelings hurt and quit the job they promised to do with due diligence. Real Americans are red and yellow, black and white, and they are precious in the sight of the God of our fathers and mothers.

Please Ms. Brzezinski agree with Mourning Joe if you must, but do not pick up the hateful rhetoric of the right wing extremists. It's, well, not what real Americans would do.

I am surprised at how often those who are so well paid to "analyze" and "communicate" are so inept at doing so. There was a kernel of truth in Mika's comment, but she made it seem more significant than it is and she described the people involved with a "canned" term (media jargon - political buzz word) that is neither objective nor accurate.

The people she describes are the same ones Barack Obama accurately described as "clinging". For the most part, they are isolated people . . . isolated geographically, isolated ideologically . . . They are not exposed to, not interested in and not inclined to be accepting of ideas and people unlike those they know and accept.

Yes, they are "real" and they exist in significant numbers. However, they do not comprise the majority of Americans; the last election proved that; the current polls prove that. They do not represent the basic principles on which the nation was founded as expressed in the Constitution and Bill of Rights.
This mindset does not offer the nation its best hope for and most productive path to the future.

Yes, Palin . . . and Limbaugh, and Cheney, and Bush, and DeLay, and Gingrich, et al . . . "represent" this foot-dragging and fearful group. More than that, these "leaders" manipulate and exploit the fears and anxieties of these folks in an effort to create raw political power that will produce personal again for their egos and their wallets. In the end, these "abusive leaders" will leave their pathetic followers in the same lost and lonely place they found them except the rest of the world will have moved on, leaving the recalcitrant ones even farther behind and less able to cope.

In the end, the only place Palin and her ilk are leading those unfortunate enough to follow is backward and downward. One might call that the fast track to hell-on-earth.

Shame on Palin and her fellow travelers! (If you are wondering . . . Yes, I do mean to recall the despicable era of Joseph McCarthy!)

Now, the thing about Obama's "clinging" statement that he made, turns out, was more true than he even knew. As soon as he was elected, gun sales shot up, and go and try to find ammo. The loons are stocking up because Obama is coming to take their guns.

And the religion of these same people stocking up for the "fight"? Yes, most would call themselves evangelical christians no doubt.

There is a real danger in Sarah Palin that I think the Right and the Left are ignoring or overlooking--it's too fun taking pot shots at her if you are on the Left, and if you are one of Mika's media brethren, turning Palin and her ilk into a sideshow is like printing money--it's just too lucrative polarizing everyone. But Palin DOES connect with a small, disgruntled, misinformed, resentful minority. And she, as other populist demagogues before her (ever hear of Huey Long?), could energize and motivate that group, turning it into a very nasty movement. Hard as it may be, let's do Palin the courtesy of taking her seriously and clearly recognizing the reality-based potential danger that she is. I have yet to hear or see any news analyst discuss it from that angle. Whether a supporter or a detractor, no one is really taking her or the danger she could become seriously.

You are correct, though; The threat she poses to our nation should not be taken lightly.

Real Americans use their brains. Real Americans distill the issues.
      Real Americans vote.
Apparently, President Obama's decisive electoral victory means, in her view, that we're all a bunch of socialists.
I consider Palin VERY dangerous. Her views, the way she thinks...we could have another Joe McCarthy in the works.
I'm beginning to fear for this country. That certain people "decide" who's real and who's not and actually propagate this as "news" is going to divide this country in ways we haven't seen for quite awhile, even worse than under Shrub II.
People, we need to do more than simply point this out. We need to contact these news outfits, calling them on their misinformation, get more active. Put people like Palin and the blonde bimbo above out to pasture.

Pretty understandable JohnRod. Palin was probably the most unqualified and embarrassing candidate on a Presidential ticket in my lifetime, yet we have a major political party and their conservative media suggesting that she's not only the future of that party, but representative of "Real Americans".

I find it reassuring that the people who I consider real Americans* are concerned and have an opinion about the sorry state of what is still a semi-viable political party.

        * not to the exclusion of others as real Americans.

Cut through the code, folks. "Real Americans" means white people. Palin's, and McCain's for that matter, appeal began and ended with skin color. The GOP ticket consisted of a rich white naval academy legacy (his full name is John Sydney McCain III) and an extreme right wing ex-beauty queen with a history of social climbing and back stabbing. Who identifies with EITHER of these miscreants? Answer: panic-stricken white people who can't bear to see a black man run the country.

Fantagor/Randy I think if you sharpened your anlysis it would be more accurate. Although i believe that the McCain/Palin campaign was playing to racial fears , and that "Real Americans" to them were white Americans, they did not mean ALL white Americans, and Barack Obama was not elected by only Afro-Americans. I read many people on this site and enjoy yours and their insight ,humor and opinions that (even though i can't see their skin)I know cross many color and gender lines whom I consider my brother and sisters in struggle because we share common ideals and a vision of what kind of world we'd liked to live in. So although I agree with you that"...panic-stricken white people who can't bear to see a black man run the country." were their target the Country, the People of the USA rejected them resoundly, despite the defeaning slanders, lies and dogwhistle appeals to racism perpetuated by their echo chamber. WE won! Emphasis on WE!

Palin's views connect with real Americans? Hmmm ... must be those carefully articulated positions on Supreme Court rulings, foreign policy, healthcare, the economy and such. What I loved about Palin was how articulate she was; she didn't just pander to the prejudices of white people and launch baseless attacks on her opponents. No sirree! Oh, and her resignation speech? Brilliant!

The only thing about Palin that connects with her supporters is that she's pro-life and especially that she's white. There, I said it. So call me an elite (the term used by people like Palin when they lack any factual rebuttal or don't want to engage in a debate).

And she ignores the biggest poll of all - the Presidential election! And Palin was trounced! A big majority of Americans turned her and her ideas away.

Plus, this idiocy that people at Palin rallies supported Palin's ideas! Wow! And they all went to the same political rally? What are the odds?!?

I have found that over the last five to six months, Mika's become intolerable. This latest statement offends me as much as Palin's stupid remark about 'real' America. I'm further offended that she, in essence, considering that most American's live in urban areas, stated that most of us are liberal elitists, and not 'real' Americans.

I am a proud, life-long, NY metro liberal, and I'm not Ivy-League educated; I attended public schools, and started working right out of high school. If I try to get into Mika's mind, does that mean that while I am 'unfortunate' enough to not live in 'rural' America, I must know more about being a 'real' American than my wealthier, college-educated neighbors?

Well, I do know one thing - Mika's line of thinking is bull, and highly offensive. Thankfully, the Mika's and Palin's do NOT speak for women like me.
