First of all, where are the numbers coming from?

Second of all, whenever I hear a commentator laugh while their talking, it sounds like he or she is trying to make what's being said more palatable. It's as if they're saying 'This is funny cause it's true.' Listen for it more often and see if you agree.

Ya gotta wonder how saying killing off large portions of the population makes for longevity is a smart thing.

      OT, but just saw this.

Ortez Colindres, foreign minister to caretaker leader Roberto Micheletti who took over after Honduran President Manuel Zelaya was ousted in a June 28 coup, used the term “negrito,” or “little black man,” to describe Obama on several occasions last week and again Tuesday in a radio interview.

At one point he described Obama as “this little black man who has no idea where Tegucigalpa is.”

No wonder Rush wants us to have a Honduran uprising here. They call the president what he's been wanting to call him since day one...

Well since we are at a perfectly reasonable lifespan I guess we can let the 12,000 babies die every year because of inadequate health care, the 18,000 adults die every year from the same problem, and the 100,000 people needlessly suffer every year because of preventable or treatable illnesses. And hey, since Mark Steyn feels so strongly about how adequate the American health care system is now he can tell the families of the babies and people that die every year from preventable illnesses that if America had a good genocide every now and then they might have prolonged their longevity.

First, I miss Rush, I don't feel right if I don't get a good cup of crazy every day...

Next, this guy is using false stats and a false argument.

According to the World Health Organization (See Mr. Steyn, it helps to name your references) The US was ranked 24th in Healthy Life Expectancy. at 70 years old.

Albania was 103 at 60 years old.
Bosnia 56 at 64.9 years old

      Countries ahead of us...
      Japan #1 at 75.5

We are sandwiched between Israel and Cypress.

Check where you get your stats... your argument sounds moronic when you look at the World Health Organization's numbers. Japan has a life expectancy of 4.5 years longer than ours.

Was he coughing up a lung in the middle of that? Sounded like one of those dry, chesty, gasping coughs. Oh, well.

Here's a little math for you, Mark, before you go and croak (and yes, I realize he said some much more inflammatory things, but his lack of understanding conversion and decimals hurt me):
Our average life expectancy is 78.06. The EU's is 78.7. 78.7-78.06=0.64. 0.64 does not equal 6 months, Mark. 0.5=6 months. 0.64=7.68 months. I know, Mark, it doesn't make sense! Now you think I'm saying there are at least 68 days in a month! CRAZY! Mark, there are 12 months in a year. Decimals go in increments of 10s. 10 does not equal 12. It's like if we weighed your MIA buddy, Rush. While the electronic scale says, "7,394.8" (ok, it probably says something closer to "ERROR" if it's still intact), the "0.8" doesn't mean 8 ounces! It means eight tenths of a pound! 80% of 1 pound! And you know how many ounces are in a pound, Mark? 16!
So, Mark, here you go: Get out your calculator, your phone, or a good old fashioned pencil and paper (because this math is really easy). MULTIPLY (X, *, dot, parentheses, whatever) the decimal by the number you actually want to convert (months=12, ounces=16, brains cells you have left=7, etc). Don't forget to carry correctly and move your decimal back over... There's your correct answer!
You better hurry up and try it, Mark, before you hack up blood all over you notes!

Thank you! Like you said below, it's "simple freakin' math". blueline99 pointed out that his stats were (of course!) flawed, but it's not like having the correct numbers would've made a difference. It doesn't matter to me sometimes how much crazy they're hurling out there; it makes me want to come out of my skin when they can't properly analyze basic science and math. I don't even get this level of crap from adolescents!

Genocide, I always thought, was a bad thing. Well, was I wrong! Now I know genocide= longevity.
Let's see, so far Al Gore has been compared to Nazi's, Stalin...
I'm going to drink. Anybody want to come along?

Well, they do say that birthdays are good for you: The more you have, the longer you live. So if you're off keeping people from having them, but having more yourself, then it is apparently the key to a longer life (as long as you're the one doing the living). Who knew? I have one coming up next week, but maybe I will have a hundred more if I go wipe out my neighborhood?

What I don't understand is how "health care" (See MMFA headline to this thread) in the U.S. came to be considered 'in crisis.' I think anyone who doesn't want more government interference with their life would "downplay" the "health care crisis." As far as I can tell, there is no health care crisis in the U.S. We won't really have a health care crisis until the government is able to control health care - then watch out.
I was young once, and now am old, and in my lifetime, I've watched our government screw up every thing it has attempted to assist. Where is all the liberal angst about the government interfering with the privileged relationship between a patient and the doctor? That is the cry against anti-abortion laws. But, hey, if it means the government takes control of a major segment of society - why, that's a a good thing!
