Hat tip to Gawker.

GRETCHEN CARLSON (co-host): Speaking of spouses --

BRIAN KILMEADE (co-host): Yes.

CARLSON: -- did you know that being married is healthy for you? At least when it comes to Alzheimer's disease or dementia or things like that. This group did a study. They first interviewed middle-aged people around 50 in the 1970s and the 1980s, and then they came back to look at them 21 years later. Those who were married at that point in their life, in the midpoint of their life, ended up having much fewer cases of Alzheimer's than those who were --

DAVE BRIGGS (guest co-host): Yeah.

CARLSON: -- divorced, single, widowed, et cetera.

BRIGGS: I'm kind of conflicted on this one. Because on one hand, I think my wife keeps me sane, because I lose everything and she helps me find it. But I leave cabinets open --

CARLSON: You too, huh?

BRIGGS: Does your husband leave cabinets open?

CARLSON: That first thing you said.

BRIGGS: Losing things? Right?

CARLSON: Yeah.

BRIGGS: But I leave these cabinets open all over the house. I come back in the room, and they're closed. And sometimes I think I'm losing my marbles a little bit. Then I realize she just likes to come behind me and --

CARLSON: She's just looking out for you, Mr. Briggs.

BRIGGS: -- close things and put things away.

KILMEADE: I'm just amazed that they thought about doing this study in the -- by interviewing people in the 1970s and the 1980s.

BRIGGS: A little dated, you think?

KILMEADE: The average is 50, and they see that they keep it together. I find this -- I find this somewhat --

BRIGGS: Go ahead.

KILMEADE: Different. Leave it to the Finns and Swedes to some up with something. They literally --

CARLSON: Don't look at me, pal.

KILMEADE: Because that's a -- we are -- we're -- we're a -- we're -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other --

CARLSON: Are you sure they're not suffering from some of the --

KILMEADE: I mean, the Swedes --

CARLSON: -- causes of dementia right now?

BRIGGS: What are you getting at?

KILMEADE: See, the problem is, the Swedes have pure genes.

BRIGGS: OK.

KILMEADE: Because they marry other Swedes. Because that's the rule. Finland -- Finns marry other Finns, so they have a pure society. In America, we marry everybody.

BRIGGS: OK.

KILMEADE: So, we'll marry Italians and Irish.

BRIGGS: So, this study does not apply?

KILMEADE: Does not apply to us.

BRIGGS: Huh. You are a scientist.

CARLSON: Amazing deduction, Kilmeade.

BRIGGS: Scientist.

KILMEADE: That's a -- those are --

BRIGGS: Dr. Kilmeade, it is.

KILMEADE: That's how I feel.

BRIGGS: All right.

CARLSON: Thank you for filling us in on that --

BRIGGS: Let's see how he feels --

CARLSON: -- Italian-Irish man.

wow...WTF is right...even for Fox this one is really bad. I think the entire news business is imploding as these boneheads look for things to say to fill up time...it doesn't even look like it registers with Kilmeade that what he said was so patently offensive.

Yes and his statement about inter-marriage came right out of the Nazi era. Poor thing needs to get on the time machine and catch up since now we know what a stupid Hitler really was when he said the same thing as Kalmeade.

If Kilmeade had known the P.C. police were going to take him out of context, he should have re-phrased his statement in a more P.C/B.S. way. What he is saying might be correct though: research done in Sweden might have no correlation to research done in the United States because the United States is a much less limited gene-pool. MMFA inferred that he was somehow saying one was greater than the other.

Wow. More racism from the cons. Racism to defend racism. You have to love it.

Plus, you didn't explain how it was out-of-context. In fact, you simply restated what he said. The context was provided and clear. Essentially, he's saying that in Sweden, white people stick to whites while here in America whites breed with other "species". Brilliant.

And apparently Zam knows nothing about genetics. Which from what I've read shows that more genetic diversty is beneficial to a species. They know now that pure bred dogs have wayyyy more gentic related problems than dogs bred for reasons other than the size of their tale or the shine of their coat.

I know this fact all too well, having worked in animal hospitals for years. Inbreeding is a real genetic term regarding this very thing, and it is SAD. Very few people get certain breeds for the purpose they were artificially selected for in the first place, it's all about what's "in".
As far as humans, there has been research that shows we are wired to find others with certain genetic differences, for the benefit of our offspring. Not so much looks, but health-related issues... and it's more a subconscious action than other traits we actively seek out. Variety and adaptation are good things for survival!

Savage has a point. Every neighborhood that illegals have migrated to has gone down the tubes. My birthplace of Van Nuys, CA is like "little Mexico" now. Shootings, rapings, pillaging, drive-by's, grafiti, prostitution, drugs, (you know, all the things that go along with the Mexican-illegal population. Even the African-American neighborhoods are in awe!

            by zamfir273114 (August 05, 2008 9:27 pm ET)
Then why is it that every one of these Mexican populated areas crime-ridden? Really, all P.C. aside, can you tell me why the real estate prices decrease in these areas? One more thing, why are the prisons filled with Mexicans? P.C. aside. See, nothing ever gets done because everybody is afraid to talk about these things.

I don't have to agree with someone in order to value free speech. Sure, Imus et. Al. say some nasty comments; however, unless you can diminish his listenership or his value, your barking up the wrong tree. If Hillary were black, you could resort to using Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. Unfortunately, they only come running when black folk are ridiculed. Hmm, that seems a little "racist" in and of itself.

Tell that to the Swedes. If what you're saying is true about them having the highest quality of life of any country right now, it's happens to come at a time of their highest recorded levels of immigration. Among the Swedish population, 13.4 percent were not born in Sweden. You know what percentage of the US population was born abroad? 12.4 percent.

Isn't it remarkable how the facts consistently undermine arguments for racial, ethnic, national, and linguistic purity?

The quality of life is higher because we pay much higher taxes and get affordable healthcare+mostly free education. Plus free or cheap childcare and very good free pediatric care. Some things have been cut back a bit, you might have to wait a bit more than earlier for non-urgent medical care, for example, but you are not left without care.
(You can also go private or take private health insurance, but a majority of people don't find it really necessary).
Those with no earned income also have, as far as I can see, more generous social benefits.
And very importantly-working days are shorter and holidays a lot longer; a standard working day is 8 hours and holidays roughly 5 weeks/year. Standard paid maternity leave about 1 year, with possibility to extend to up to 3 years without losing your job.
                  So the reasons are many.
Not everything is rosy, though, alchohol abuse (leading to violent crime) is quite common and drugs are on the increse, albeit much lower still than in the US or UK.

The genetic mix has nothing to do with it, we have an increasing immigrant population too. The social structure is just so different.
We pay much higher taxes on our income. In return, we have free ecucation up to tertiary level (there are cost for material and some admin costs on secondary and tertiary level, but the basic tuition is free), affordable healthcare, standard abt 1 year paid maternity leave with option to extend unpaid leave to 3 years without loosing your job, free or affordable childcare, social benefits for unemployed, disabled and also people on low income, shorter working days (standard 7.5-8 hours), longer paid holidays (5 weeks average)...just to list a few things.
Not everything is rosy, though, since the 80's health care especially has been cut down-you might have to queu a bit longer for non-urgent procedures-but nobody is left without care.
The curse of society is alchohol abuse, which is all too common and leads to violent crime. On the other hand, drugs abuse is still low comparing to the US or UK, albeit on the increase.
On the good side again, cities are smaller, which means that people live closer to the nature. Jogging, walking, swimming and skiing is a part of everyday life.

Thank you, aurinko. It's nice to hear a first-hand account of what life is like under actual socialism. As you can see by zamfir's comments - this is why we do not have the quality of life that you do. We are still caught up in conversations with man-childs who cannot grasp abstract concepts and are easily led by entertainers to believe whatever info is spoon-fed to them. Our national dialogue and discourse is amazingly juvenile and ill-informed.

Aurinko, thank you for posting. I certainly would be willing to pay more taxes for those benefits you listed. However the U.S. could probably have all those benefits without raising our taxes, if our priorities were different and we cut out the obscene waste of our government.

The curse of society is alcohol abuse
That may partly explain the high rate of suicides. Also I wonder if the long winters and the cold weather contribute to that. Montana and Alaska have the highest rates of suicide in the U.S. and they have all three of those things in common.

Are you kidding me? You fight every form or government help as socialism then you cite countries that are clearly choosing socialist policies as the quality of life that we should reach for - and your reason that their quality of life is so high is because they don't have a "melting pot" of races? You really wanna stick with that? You are a lunatic and a racist. Also, how do you not think their government policies have more to do with their quality of life than the color of their skin. Are you that stupid??

          Swedes have pure genes
I wonder if there is any correlation between that and the FACT that Sweden has the highest rate of Suicide in the world? I studied that in 1969 and it had not changed by 2001. I guess "pure genes" (what a stupid remark) does not make one happy.

Hey, as long as we're abandoning all the polite speech, I might as well suggest that perhaps a repeat study done only in Alabama and Mississippi would provide that more pure gene pool - the non-branching family tree - that would more closely correlate with the Swedish one.

But I'm with you. I hate when the PC police take a great scientist out of context because his "techno-speak" is over our heads.

How was that clip out of context... was there more before or after that would have put his words in context.

The truly hilarious part is that he actually paused, like he was trying to choose his words carefully before he said "another species"

That kind of racism is buried real deep... you know the kind that believes the "scientists" in the 1800s who said that "a black man's brain is physically smaller than a white man's.

"What's up with Fox and the brain dead Irishmen they hire?"

        >>>I don't think he likely Irish.

People tend to overvalue the name in determining ancestry. Mr. Kilmeade may or may not be of Irish ancestry as far as I know as a non-viewer. But I can't find him noting it anywhere. However in Al Franken's "Lies and Lying Liars Who Tell Them" (ch.26), Franken says that Kilmeade was born 'Leslie Hochsweenderson'.

My opinion - from looks alone - is that at best he's part-Irish.

Maybe he took Kilmeade as a stage name. But if it is connected to him by family, I couldn't find the name in any of the surname dictionaries I used. The various names starting with 'Kil' though can be English, Irish or Scottish in origin. 'Meade' by itself can be either English or Irish.

At the end the woman referred to him as an 'Italian Irishman'. I don't know if she meant that or was she was just mockingly repeating back to him some of what he'd said earlier.

what still not good enough for you?

ok ill raise you Julio Claudian dynasty. This was Augustus' bloodline. well not directly, more his step family, and his wife's clan. and the madness of "pure blood" came to fruition in the form of Caligula (his father and mother were first cousins) and after having something of a stable personality in Claudius, you then have good ol Nero who thankfully was the last of that demented bloodline.

ya know come to think of it, Nero i think would be idolized by the neo cons today. i mean if the story was true about him "fiddling" (he would have been playing the lyre, which surprisingly enough he was actually really good at) while Rome burned, then that just embodies neo con "hands off" principles. (fact is the story wasn't true, Nero was at least a day's ride outside of Rome, and as for the rumors that he had the fire set to clear out real estate for his newest palace was crap too. anyone who knows about ancient history knows that fires were common and it was only a matter of time before Rome had a devestating fire.)

but oh wait. one thing: Nero in an act of charity, took all those that he could that had been made homeless and housed them himself at his expense in his palace the Domus Aurea (The Golden house). wait a minute thats not hands off......he was a liberal! ARGH.

      KILMEADE: Because that's a -- we are -- we're -- we're a -- we're -- we keep marrying other species and other ethnics and other --

I'm curious to know what exactly brainless here meant when he said... 'other species'...? Not to mention the 'other ethnics' remark.

Could this have been Freudian slip of a deep seeded racism toward blacks or other minorities (as this is a meme of the right-wing -- to dehumanize any and all that are not white or Christian as less than human... or basically... another species)?

Being that bestiality and marrying animals in America is illegal... I can not come up with another possible answer to this.

Other species?!?! Marrying a Swede is getting involved with a non-human? WTF?!?

What does marrying have to do with your genes? Apparently, Kilmeade assumes that if you get married, then you instantly have children. Idiot.

And of course, the opposite view is true somewhat. To form a stronger human being, the DNA needs some variety, so it's a good thing for races to inter-mingle because it builds stronger humans.

A culture that never breeds outside of itself is a form of macro-incest, the effects of which are only seen over multiple generations.

On the marrying other species point, does this reveal how Kilmeade feels about those outside his race and ethnic group? Comparisons to Hitler and Nazis is usually innaproriate in political and societal debates. But Kilmeade, you made it relevant with this comment.

this is just the recycled argument of "eugenics" which, as a line of thought, was strong amongst even educated people in the US prior to Hitler. After Hitler, people were able to see the full implications of this philosophy and it was debunked. In truth, the Tiger Woods's and Obamas of the world are probably the strongest and fittest because of their "hybrid vigor" (an actual scientific term used by geneticists). In other words, by having access to a wider, more diverse gene pool, their genetic material is doubtlessly of higher quality than those of us who are racially "pure".

Also, as a matter of definition, a species is composed of individuals who are capable of reproducing together. Thus, all members of the race Homo Sapiens are members of the same species, no matter how racially different they may appear to be. The exception to this definition would be the case of horses and donkeys, who are able to breed and produce mules as offspring. They are not considered to be of the same species, however, because the offspring of these unions are always sterile.

"Also, as a matter of definition, a species is composed of individuals who are capable of reproducing together. "

Eh, not to be picky, but the definition of species with which I'm familiar specifies that a species is composed of individuals capable of producing viable, fertile offspring. So there's no need to make exceptions for mules and other infertile offspring of different species.

But let's cut to the chase: Kilmeade reached for the word "race" and came up with "other species". He doesn't think it's important to distinguish between the categories "racially marked" and "non human". And despite being ridiculed for saying something so blatantly ignorant and offensive, our friend zamfir273114 is jumping to his defense, saying it's unfair for MMFA to take issue with poor Kilmeade for not saying the same thing in a "more P.C/B.S. way".

Zamfir273114: what exactly is P.C or B.S. about calling out a TV host on a cable "news" channel for saying that some U.S. citizens aren't human beings?

"...we keep marrying other species and other ethnics..."
My parents were humans. Kilmeade looks like a dog. What breed of dog was/is his father or mother? Being half-human I do not know which of Kilmeade's parents was/is canine. Irish Setter, or the Italian Mastiff? So, Kilmeade has both a birth certificate and The Kennel Club Accreditation? One foot, one paw? Is he up on his vaccinations: canine distemper, Parvovirus, rabies, etc? Where is his collar? Which Fox News executive walks him?

It is not, that I am playing dumb. You KNOW Fox News is the basis of integrity, honesty, and the focal point of reason. Is a fox considered a canine?
I have too many questions to make sense of what he meant.
