As a white male, it's time that someone spoke up for us and our oppression. Why, just the other day there was not enough soy milk in my latte. What I have to go through makes me understand the chains of humanity <sarcasm>.

So we understand things, I am white. I have been told several times that I can't possibly understand what it is like to be the victim of discrimination, but I really think I can. I have been discriminated against because once, I was a young and pretty girl and the older men always assumed I was stupid and I have been treated differently because I am Catholic, which to some, makes me less of a Christian. It may not be the "n-word" or as vicious as some have known, but I have been made to feel less capable than what I am. I have no problems with affirmative action plans, even if it means I might not get the job. I do realize that for some people, my white skin is extra qualification points. I can't do anything about their perceptions beyond bringing those perceptions out into the light of day. Why is there the presumption that because she is a Latina, she isn't qualified? I love watching older white men complaining about reverse discrimination because they have to compete for something that they assumed was theirs for the asking. If white men are only about 30% of the population in America, they should also be only 30% of the population of bosses and supervisors, too. We will know when we have gender and racial eqality because no one will ask these kinds of questions and if they are asked, people will be shocked or outraged that they would be asked.

Ah, but you were a white woman, which is also a class of people in the US who have been discriminated against. A lot. And still are. Remember, it wasn't too long ago that you wouldn't have been able to vote. show a small amount of skin in your daily apparel, and it was off to jail with you. You were also expected to stay at home, make babies, clean the house, wash the clothes, and keep the home clean and tidy for you man. Not to mention, there is still a pay disparity between men and women with the same qualifications and skills doing the same job for the same amount of time.

Pat's scared that white males aren't going to be running everything, even though for the most part, they still are. Look at power structures of corporations. Overwhelmingly white male. Govt? White male. And so on.

DISCRIMINATION..everyone thinks they have it tough. But what about a light-skinned, 100% Italian with a last name that ends in a vowel and God forbid, RED_HAIR as a child? Growing up in a town full of Italians, not all so fair-skinned, and now, white guys are complaining about discrimination.
How about such cruel remarks such as:

          1. Did the milkman have red hair? (actually he did)
          2. Are you sure you are not Irish? (DAH, I don't drink)
          3. Are you good with cement? (Shoes or what)
          4. Did you know you were adopted? (My sister always said that)

We could go on and on about the new CON cry...'what if a white man said that or what if a white man did that'..I wish we could look back into the 30's, 40's 50's etc and we would probably find that white guys DID and said all of the things for which they would be grilled for today..probably look last week and find these things.

Too bad that white guys have had control of the world since the beginning of time but now is the time when they only have 75% control and all they do is scream DISCRIMINATION. Before anyone here does that, just remember the poor little red-headed stepchild, Italian kid who grew into a 6'2" 218lb blue-eyed blond hair Prince.

WHITE GUYS CAN'T DUNK..more discrimination. Although it is only the short, WHITE GUYS WHO CAN'T JUMP, they wish to be considered a minority group

So basically, like me, you are saying you too have felt the sting of discrimination. Does that sting make you more aware and compassionate? I would hope it does, and it would also make you guilty of doing what Sotomayor says she hopes for. I don't have a problem with her remarks, I just have a problem with how some have chosen to portray them. There is still discrimination in the workplace, and sometimes, it is directed at women and Latinos. The problem is to rid the world of discrimination, not ruin the careers of people who recognize that it exists.

Try being 50 and unemployed. The excuses I've been given from job interviews are way funnier than just saying "we think you are too old".

Not quite fifty, but I just switched careers, and believe me, I know what it is like to be grizzled and the new kid on the block at the same time. I find competing with the younger workers, (and beating them at the game) to be an envigorating experience. Age and experience will out do youth and inexperience in any real competition. You might try to find a Federal job, they take anti-discrimination laws seriously, because they don't want to loose in court. Good luck in finding something, don't let the kids see you sweat!

Two reasons youth is hired over experience...money and medical. Corps(e) would rather cut bottom line expenses to justify whoever is responsible for that their existence and deal with the time-wasting inexperience of younger workers.

And of course when you get to a certain "demographic" companies immediately assume there will be a medical liability (for you or your family), which is yet another reason for insurance reform.

I fully realize that, but I am glad that you pointed it out. In some ways, I am cheaper than some of the young people, because I don't need the benefits and I don't have to be paid for my non-job related experience, but an employer wouldn't know that in an interview, unless I raised it. It is one of the reasons that I favor either national health insurance or national medical care. My adult daughter can't get health insurance because of pre-existing conditions and we can't afford to add her back to our policy. So we gamble that she stays healthy until she can get a job and get group coverage.

Not like when Roberts placated everyone through his hearings and then once on the court did a 180 and overturned a super-prescident, but maybe I'm just biased against men of my own species(thank you Brian Kilmeade).

If you want to make a point make it in normal text not all caps. You insult everyone by yelling. All caps is yelling.

By the way the msm has an agenda and the way they show the speaking and questions is part of this.

Definitely needs to work on his posting skills, but his point was spot on. This morning I heard CNN give us several minutes of Jeff Sessions bloviating bs talking points on Sotomayor, followed by roughly ten seconds of Chuck Schumer before Wolf Blitzer stepped in to say "ok we are going to take a station break now, but when we come back..." and when CNN came back, it was to show us Lindsey Graham repeating Sessions's points. Disgusting.

Buchanan has no idea what he is talking about.Other than the Ricci case which is controversial but not reverse racism, what facts support his outrageous claim. No promotions were awarded to anyone...just a test was challenged.Supporting the City's decision to throw it out does not make her racist esp if she was following prescedence from prior court rulings. So all three appeals court judges have to be racist as well as the other judges they based their ruling on!!That's ridiculous!!!
