Major Kook is a treasonous is loser and has destroyed his civilian career (he was fired) and now his military career all because of his radical reich-wing teabag propaganda that is freely distributed on Faux on am hate radio. I hope Major Kook is made an example of by the US Army and is punished to the fullest extent of military law.
Teabaggers, here is some reality for you:

Lt. Comm. William Speaks, a spokesman for Centcom, spoke with TWI today about Maj. Stefan F. Cook’s controversial request for conscientious objector status.

“Maj. Cook volunteered for the one year assignment to Afghanistan, in May of this year,” said Speaks. “After he brought this stuff to the fore, the unit that owned his billet canceled his orders.”

Speaks dismissed comments that Cook’s attorney Orly Taitz, made to WorldNetDaily, specifically her claim that “the military has directly responded by saying Obama is illegitimate.”

“This in no way validates any of the outlandish claims made by Maj. Cook or his attorney,” said Speaks. “The idea that this validates those charges about the president’s fitness for office is simply false.”

Thing is. When soldiers are sworn into the military, they take an oath to protect the Constitution. Not the President. The Major is going against the oath that he took by not deploying to Afghanistan as scheduled.

That, and the mere fact that Obama is an American citizen. Always has been. Always will be. This guy can file all of the lawsuits that he wants, something tells me the JAG corps is going to have a field day with this one.

Last night, Keith Olbermann reported that Major Cook volunteered for duty in Afghanistan and, as a volunteer, he could withdraw that request to be sent there. Accordingly, Cook did not have to file a lawsuit to get out of serving in Afghanistan. The lawsuit was just a publicity-seeking ploy for the "birthers". I'm glad to see it came back to bite him on the rear end.

While everything you said was true, you didn't describe how some of these nutjobs are going to pout and moan and groan about how MAJ Kook is a victim of some evil liberal plot to crush his freedom and foist some illegal alien onto the people of the United States. Where is the reality check? It seemed to me people used to be saner a few years ago, or maybe I just didn't know about the rocks they were hiding under. The internet is a blessing and a curse, I can find out lots of neat facts, but weirdos can spread all kinds of manure and call it facts, too.

My only fear is that since he's a weekend warrior, the USAR may just give him his walking papers (hopefully a dishonorable discharge) instead of punishing him to the fullest extent for conduct unbecoming, treason, etc.., etc, Clearly this was a political stunt from the word "go". He never had to go, and then he volunteered to go AFTER Obama became president. It's no surprise that a teabagger is involved in this weak and feeble stunt.

If he is dishonrably discharged, that will follow him for the rest of his life. It's something that would have to be listed on every job application he ever files, and it is a career killer in any field.

Yup. Exactly. He'll be lucky to land a gig as a dishwasher (not that there is nothing wrong with that job) with a dishonorable, or even less than honorable, discharge. It's quite sad that Major Kook let far reich-wing paranoia ruin his career and soon his life.

I doubt the UCMJ allows Dishonorable Discharges for not following illegal orders. 1n 1968 Lt Calley ordered his men to kill civilians in Vietnam. That was an illegal order. Snip:"While 26 US soldiers were initially charged with criminal offenses for their actions at My Lai, only William Calley was convicted.". The buck stops with the President, if he's illegal, so are his orders as Commander in Chief. The military rescinded his deployment orders which means the military cannot prove he's a legal president. If someone wants to court martial this soldier the president should prove he's legal by showing that birth certificate. The administration is a house of cards and he is going to answer, sooner or later.

I may be missing something but the Constitution describes the requirements for serving as President. It would seem to me that if you suspected the President didn't fulfill these requirements you would be defending the Constitution by pressing the issue of verification.

And, given that it would be so easy to prove and clear up any doubt the silence is deafeningly convicting.

What I find interesting are military members who say, "I just don't feel right serving under this president and will be leaving after my contract is up."

I don't know about those folks. I served the country and happened to take orders from the president, whoever that happened to be. To pick and choose which CinC you want to serve under seems pretty shallow to me.

And I know this is a poor excuse for an argument, but Sean Hannity, chief engineer on the now defunct "stop Hillary express" has got to know that if there were any truth to this birth certificate issue Hillary Clinton would have found it 2 years ago. After all, he had Vince Foster taken out, didn't she?

This birth certificate issue has to be the dumbest thing yet. Does any rational person believe for one second that Obama could be sworn into office as the POTUS without being checked from top to bottom on this or any other issue that would be germaine? It's unfathomable to me that these total eejits on stilts have people who actually believe this can happen.

All specious arguments are invalidated by the fact that O was born in the state of Hawaii, which was a state at the time of his birth. His birth certiciate has been made availabale. Here's a copy for Sean to see:

I lived overseas with the military for nearly ten years. There are a lot of Conservatives in the military. And a lot of them probably voted for Senator McCain, but I would find it hard to believe that there are more than just a few nutjobs like this Major Cook. I can also imagine that many of the service members are insulted by these cheap parlor tricks being played by the Major and his lawyer. My experience tells me that Major is the make or break rank, a good officer will be promoted, but a bad one will wash out at this rank. I have known more than a few Major Mistakes, I guess this kook is one of them.

And my base had a Fundie group to, they were very powerful when it came to hiring civilians. They would actually sit in offices and openly discuss hiring or promoting this " good Bible Boy," while refusing to hire this other guy because he wasn't a "Bible Boy." And that quoted term was the one being used! It was indeed scary. When I returned to the States, I refused to listen to Faux Noise for years. I only started checking in around the time of the election and on this and another discussion board. I still can't believe some of the stuff I hear.

Wow, so, you don't believe that people born in the state of Hawaii are "legal citizens of the USA"? How uninformed can you be? Hawaii has been a part of the USA since 1959 . . . two years before Obama was born IN THAT STATE.

The State of Hawaii has VERIFIED that the document which was forwarded to Obama and which Obama has posted online came from THEIR office at his request and represents the original birth certificate which is held in their archives. http://tinyurl.com/5v9763

As for Obama running this country into the ground and the "wasteful spending," where were you for the past 8 years? Obama is trying to pull this country OUT of the hole the last administration dug. I was not an Obama supporter, but I think he's doing a pretty good job with the mess that was dumped in his lap. There are things I disagree with him on, but I think they will all be worked out in the end.

This is a point that really can't be overstated. This incredulity about Obama's citizenship speaks volumes about how many people in the United States regard non-whites as essentially foreign. I don't remember anyone demanding to see any previous president's birth certificate, and there's a reason: when it comes to being a "real" American, race still trumps nationality for a frighteningly large part of the population.

Or it could be a statement about how antagonistic our politics are. Has there ever been a case where there was any question as to eligibility? I find the scenario of Obama being born out of country and his mother lying about it for no apparent reason whatsoever to be bizarre, but there does seem to be some issue with eligibility if that were to be the case.

I still can't imagine if John Edwards was President and there was some question about whether he was actually born in Canada (or wherever) or not that it would be dropped by his opponents. Political opportunism is a very powerful influence.

Also, most foreign countries are largely populated by people who are not Caucasian. So if there is ever a case where there's a question of eligibility due to the possibility of being born in a foreign country, it's fairly likely that the person in question is not going to be white.

Well, I'm sure our conservative friends would point out that there was some talk last year about John McCain's citizenship, since he actually wasn't born in the United States. (He is, of course, a citizen, and no serious person claims otherwise.) But that argument was, to my knowledge, never serious: it was an attempt to point out that Obama had as much claim to citizenship as any other American.

"Also, most foreign countries are largely populated by people who are not Caucasian. So if there is ever a case where there's a question of eligibility due to the possibility of being born in a foreign country, it's fairly likely that the person in question is not going to be white."

I think you're putting the cart before the horse: by the same logic, if there's ever a case where there's a question of eligibility due to the possibility of being born in a foreign country, the person's whiteness will probably be interpreted as exonerating evidence at the level of basic prejudices.

Some people did bring up McCain's eligibility, right. There were some lawsuits as well. I think there are some factors as to why it didn't (and doesn't) get as much attention as Obama's situation.

1.It was addressed in the Senate. It wasn't binding, but since Obama and Hillary both co-sponsored it, it weakened any disqualifying efforts from their supporters.
2.Even apart from racial elements, it's not as easy to attack someone for being the son of a high-ranking Navy officer as it is for being the son of an 18-year old woman. The idea that the Founding Fathers would want to exclude the children of those in military service from serving as President seems hard to swallow.
3.As most people have admitted at some point or other, Democrats are generally not quite as aggressive as Republicans regarding this sort of thing. Can you imagine Democrats impeaching Bush over oral sex, for instance? Perhaps the better hypothetical would be to wonder what would happen if McCain had been a Democrat.
I think you're putting the cart before the horse: by the same logic, if there's ever a case where there's a question of eligibility due to the possibility of being born in a foreign country, the person's whiteness will probably be interpreted as exonerating evidence at the level of basic prejudices.
I'm just pointing out a matter of probability. I'm not sure how "the same logic" asserts anything about exoneration based on race.

Three times more of the deficit is caused by Bush spending that has been continued vs Obama's stimulus spending and proposed Healthcare spending. The biggest single impact on deficit growth is Bush's $1 trillion tax cut for wealthy Americans and spending for 2 wars.If u think the war in Iraq was necessary then don't complain because Bush should have paid for it.If like most American's you think it was unnecessary you should be complaing about Bush irresponsibility in cutting taxes while waging an unnecessary war!!!The inital TARP bill and auto bailout were passed under Bush last fall. The most recent Budget was also a Bush proposed budget passed after Obama took office. Why didn't you have a problem with spending and deficits before 2009??????

Check your facts about the comparison of what Bush cost us vs what Obama cost then add what he is proposing. Bush was bad but he was an amateur compared to Big O! Both were/are wrong.

Also, the tax cuts were not wrong. They were both morally and fiscally correct. The problem was the lack of spending control - on this Bush was bad and Obama is MAD. You and every sad selfish narcissist in America today are going to have to learn that you cannot have everything given to you or done for you. When America goes broke it will be our children and their children that pay for our selfishness.

The issue isn't Bush v Obama. The issue is foolish policy v smart policy. The speed at which we are seeing BAD policy pushed is increasing exponentially. You cannot make Obama good by making Bush bad. America is headed for a train wreck and Obama is heavy on the accelerator. You would do well to stop think left and right and start looking at the rapidly approaching brick wall.

The point was that people on the right ONLY blame Obama and don't understand or ignore the impact of Bush's decisions. The facts are correct about the defict impact.Bush admin spending and continued programs are almost 40% of the deficit while the Obama stimulus bill and prosed healtcare spending has about a 10% impact. The rest of the deficit was almost entirely related to the shrinking economy.I am not trying to make Obama GOOD at the expense of Bush but remember BUSH and Republicans got us here!!!!Obama has had only 6 mos to try to correct it and is being blamed for everything!!!The criticism from the right is way overboard considering their silence when Bush set up this BIG mess!!!!As to the Bush Tax cuts...how can they be morally and fiscally right when they mostly cut taxes for the wealthy and the deficit grew because of paying for 2 wars plus the Bush Medicare bill.It wasn't fiscally responsible to cut revenue(taxes) while increasing spending by 2 trillion dollars. Why do Republicans still oppose ending the Bush Tax cuts(which Obama wants to end) when we need the revenue to reduce future deficits? At least Obama is trying to pay for his spending..BUSH didn't .Yet republicans/right wingers didn't criticize Bush and excoriate Obama on everything even trivial nonsense like a friggin birth certificate which has been validated already.
Watch out for that brick wall of Hypocrisy!!!!

Like I heard the other day that 6% of the people today still don't believe the lunar landing ever happened.

The good news is that this will give Sarah Palin a 6 point jump in the polls in the 2012 election.

Wasn't Frederick Cook the gentleman who claimed to be first to the North Pole? The Establishment decided it that honor should go to Robert Perry (and, of course, Matthew Hanson, although he is something of an afterthought in many history books).

Then Dr. Cook spent the rest of his life attempting to get recognition for the honor he felt he deserved?

It is my understanding that, today, there is significant evidence that Dr. Cook came closer to the Pole than Commander Perry.

However, the larger point is the name: "Frederick Cook." Would that be a family name, Major?

I know the CHICOMS employ tens of thousands of internet censors that do what you do, that is, humiliate competing political dissent, as all COMMIES attack the messenger when they cannot win the argument. Standard routine, and "Mental Health" adjectives are always a buzzword for them.
But I'm surprised this one speaks such good English!
The Big O is just one of their Economic Manchurian Candidates, but there are many in Congress, too, as they seek to bring our country down by bleeding our economy with a thousand small cuts.
It was in 1977, when Dir. Bush asked me, "How do you lure ALL the moles out, before a major action?" He then told me, "Just hoist a Barry Soetono up the flagpole & see who salutes!"
That's how long the CIA has known, and counter-run Soetono, with, or without his knowledge.

I lived in HI when that law was passed, and there was THEN worry that such would result in some foreigner becoming President, and the corrupt politicians there simply saw it as a way to bring down the hated Washington "Haoles." This is, along with everything else Red China has done, deliberate acts of long-term war. Why do you think they let him get in up there, in the first place, FOOL?
Solution: A new Congress will, based on the above, simply declare all those Treasury Bills we owe them null & void.
Mark my words - And go have your screaming fit.

          Kudos, Craig.

And, may I point out, no one offered Obama the job. He went out and got it, by running a masterful campaign. During that campaign, by the way, he put this issue to rest, at least for those in whose skulls the synapses snap.

That stands in marked contrast to his predecessor, who was coddled his whole privileged life, and was appointed to the Presidency.

He produced his Certificate of Live Birth, which got its data from the original Birth Certificate stored and kept by the State of Hawaii.

Unless the State of Hawaii is in on the conspiracy, then you've got nothing, imbecile.

Top that off with the contemporary newspaper notices of his birth in Hawaii back in August of 1961, and that makes you a real loser!

You can reason with people who refuse to acknowledge reality.
It's like arguing with a Schizophrenic... they are living in those castles in the sky.

You can show them the birth certificate and they will just come back with, "What is he afraid of? Why won't he show it to me?"

It's truly a waste of everyone's time, but when nut jobs like Cook try publicity stunts like this, well it's just feeding the crazies.

These people will say and do anything in their frantic, insane efforts to delegitimize Obama's presidency. Their mindless dribble knows no bounds. He's black and he's in the White House for another three years and change---either get used to it and rebuild your party into something less nutty or keep this up and Obama will easily win a second term.

The Republicans (and their lapdog bobbleheads) are only preaching to the choir, such as it is. The rest of America isn't buying what they're selling.

A Certificate of Live Birth that the State of Hawaii has verified was a direct copy off of their state vault-stored Birth Certificate has been produced.

It's not that we haven't provided plenty of evidence. It's that your prejudices and your partisanship won't let you believe it. It's your side that's enraged - and deranged.

Survey the responses here. No one has the corner on rage but I think you win in volume.

Evidence? Yes no one is allowed to see the original - much like Obama's college records. Transparency here is quite opaque.

Deranged? That is interesting. Expressing an opinion now makes one deranged. Think about the environment you are creating and as a result the country. It is time to learn to debate the facts, even disagreeing, without the rancor and personal attacks. Weak arguments usually provoke fear and volume. People who don't want to know the facts in fear that they might have to change their mind also resort to volume and attack. Raise the bar and be civilized in the exchange.

I lived in HI when that law was passed, and the discussion was that the Asians there wanted to allow cheap immigration into the US (Lots of plantation workers) with all the benefits as a racial thing. (They hate us "Haoles.")
Even if that meant that some foreign immigrant (And thereby well-groomed Spy) could become President some day - That just made them smile.
