I mean, she had her birth certificate issued by the United States of America, and Obama is KENYAN! She wants her country back! Back from that N****!

I'm sure that this is what she really wanted to say, but showed some constraint (not much).

It should remind him of people screaming 'string him up' and 'kill him' during the campaign. It's likely some of the same voices.

The only effective way to deal with this is to point and laugh. One of my favorite news items deals with a rally here in the U.S. somewhere. They got their permit, and they held their rally. But, a bunch of locals showed up to the rally, since it was held in public, and they heckled and laughed and pointed at the racists until they slinked off home. Don't remember if it was nazis or kkk, though.

I thought the exact same thing as Jonathon, and I've been thinking that basic idea for months now. That's the base of the repub party now -- those sorts of kooks. And that is who repub chairman Steele and many other repubs are still playing to and afraid to alienate.

If the republican party wants to get anywhere, they need to forget about appeasing these people. (And replace Steele with a saner chairman.)

This is the inevitable outcome of the Southern Strategy they started in the '60's. If they lose the kooks they will literally have no supporters left.

Although it is ridiculous to suggest that Obama was not born a US citizen after many credible people, even Republicans, have seen the original document, it is funny and sad to see people who really think they are great Americans making idiots of themselves. That includes some Congressmen/women.
Concerning the color of our President...it absolutely comes into play. I will go out on a limb and state that some, more than we'd like, good ole boys and just pure haters around this country could never imagine a black man being thier President. Blacks thought that they'd never see it in thier lifetime..how about the whites who are seeing it everyday? Thier hatred must be restrained...and exposed.

It would be interesting to see a poll of these birther wingnuts. I'd be willing to bet big bucks that there is an extremely huge correlation - over 90% or 95% - who's favorite candidate is Sarah Palin. I'd really love to see her start a 3rd party. These people would vote for her no matter what -- significantly dilluting repub strength.

As with the 911 truthers, many support Ron Paul. His magnetism for crazy people is not to be understated.

I think you may have a point. I wouldn't mind seeing the Republican party loose some of these nutjobs. And a third party would give us a much better idea of their actual numbers. Just how big a threat are they to national order.

Finally--an adult conversation about these droolers.
They are racists. This is a distraction.

If the Republicans want to hitch their electoral hopes to these GED dropouts, let them. The party seems to be on a path toward self-destruction and having friends like the birthers can only hasten the party's death.

I'm not as optimistic as you are; there seems to be a huge amount of money behind these wingnuts, and that money will keep their ideas in play long after they have been proven ridiculous -- which is why they're getting airtime now, even after being thoroughly debunked. They're not just playing to their base, they're keeping real news out of the headlines with their nonsense and focusing us on what they're saying rather than what they're doing. In the end, I'm afraid that there will be a significant number of otherwise rational (or semi-rational) people that will focus on what these wingnuts have been saying rather than on what has actually been happening. I would love to see the Republican party splinter, but I don't think it will happen.

String him up and kill him. This sounds like words from some of the YouTube videos of McCain/Pailn campaign rallies.
