What planet does Willie Geist live on? Yeah, everyone would have just kept their mouths shut if someone in BushieCo had been called a racist. They'd STILL be talking about it.

Matter of fact, go back to when Kanye West said Bush didn't like black people because he let New Orleans drown. There was an immense backlash about that from the right wing media goons.

I was thinking of the same thing. I still snicker when I remember the look of distress on poor Mike Myers' face, who had NO idea what he had gotten himself into.

The difference being, Kanye wasn't entirely wrong. Although I doubt King George had any true animus toward black people, his party and its words and deeds continually speak volumes on that issue.

It's about time that somebody has paid attention to the hateful rhetoric that this guy spouts everyday. Yes, he has first amendment rights to say what he wants, but it's about time that someone with a national audience exposes Beck for what he is; a white racist elitist.

1st amendment rights don't extend to radio and TV shows. Nobody has a right to have a radio or tv show.

I rarely disagree with you, Flowers, but the First Amendment definitely applies to political speech on the public airwaves. That, of course, means that the Government is, or may be enjoined from taking action against Beck or Fux. IMHO however, given our racial history, this qualifies for the "shouting FIRE! in a crowded theatre" exemption.

True, but I was sort of talking specifically about the "right" to have a TV show, or a radio show. I do agree that when on there, they can pretty much spout off whatever it is they want (within FCC guidelines of course), but nobody has an inherent right to have a show. That's sort of what I was getting at.

Also, as we know, there are sometimes consequences to saying stupid things on the radio or TV, as in you can get fired, of fined, or both.

It irritates me, how these loud mouths, always scream, that their freedom of speech is being stepped on, if anyone complains about what they are saying. No one is taking away their right to say horrible things, they are just complaining about what they are saying. Even when, what they say is repeated verbatim, they yell and scream about how unfair that is. That's why they think the fairness act is a threat to put them out of business. Which is a lie, they could still spew the same hate and lies but there would be an objective side as well. Probably the only way to get to them, is going directly to their sponsors.

You're both on point. The right has been organizing protests and boycotts of sponsors for years, but they get all First Amendment dewey eyed when the left does it.

Tucker Carson’s old crony asked about if someone on the left called George Bush a racist would we be demanding an apology. I love how he starts it as I am not defending Glenn Beck but… I guess he forgot about Kanye West and people calling him a racist and demanding he apologize for his statement.

I took an instant dislike to Glenn Beck when I watched his first show. My husband demanded that I not watch his show, ever again and my daughters left the room yelling. The man is pure poison. He regularly spreads hate, misinformation, and sedition. Mika redeemed herself in my eyes, she is looking at this sensibly. I don't know which I find more disturbing, that Glennie actually believes this bilge or he is only spouting it for money. Saying it because you believe it makes you a bigot, saying it for money is prostitution, plain and simple. It could be that he is doing a bit of both, which is fine with me, I don't like him or respect him anyway! I am glad to see he is being so roundly condemned. Maybe he will go away, or at least get off TV.

Hey Glenn... when Mika is the voice of reason you have really strayed from the pack.

Glenn Beck is the WWF of politics...you can dismiss it as an act, but unfortunately he has too many rabid fans who think it's real and he's out there validating their twisted beliefs.

Do you beat the guy up? No, because that would play into Glen's hand.
So spam him with the truth. Commenting here is preaching to the choir, and doesn't seem to make a difference.
If he gets shot, and killed, do we blame Fox? They after all are supporting Beck's platform.

He himself is a product of white upper class, ivy league America. Neither he, or his wife also an ivy league grad, can equate any semblance of what it must be like to have been a victim of racial discrimination. If anything, they have enjoyed a privledged life thusfar. Also, with his law degree, he should be aware that when he speaks he must be mindful that he speaks through the Office of the Presidency and the moral responsibility that one has when doing so. If there is a racial undertone to this, remember those pointing the finger are African Americans themselves in association and members of the White Upper Class caste system, indeed. What will the Super Christians think on Thursday when they drink beer together! Oh my goodness! PUKE

Yes, but this was covered for like 5 minutes on that show. It was not one of the things they harp on ad infinitum throughout the show. That is reserved for Mika defending Sarah Palin and the Cambridge Police Dept., and criticizing Obama's handling of health care.

And Mika's comments were prefaced by something like "I'm not sure this is something we should be covering" and then went on to lambast this sort of Beck comment as making all media look bad. Not arguing its false and unfair to Obama.

I'm still waiting to hear Mika go to the mat praising Obama for just one thing, or even just strenuously defending him. But any time there a chance, she wants to change the subject. For example, yesterday also, with the 'birthers" arguments. That was another thing where she said they should not even be discussing this, and changed the subject.

(I'd like to see her asked straight out if she believes Obama was born in the U.S. I suspect there may ba a story there as to Mika. I suspect the first word out of her mouth would not be "yes".)

If it were a Repub under similar unfair attack by Democrats, the whole show would be devoted to it.

        Jim,

I notice the same thing. When an issues makes the Republican look bad, Mika always want to move from it. But if an issue makes the Democrats look bad, she wants to stay on it for weeks.

No, so call News Anchor has the courage to ask the Republican Party: Why do the majority of bigots in this country vote for Republicans? Why do Republicans always use fear and division to win elections? Why do Republicans defend corporate greed over the well being of the American People?

I don't usually defend Mika, but I think her instinct in these cases is understandable and not without merit. She seems to really believe that by talking about these things we just end up keeping the loonies in the spotlight.

I don't agree with that position - I believe we need to keep them in the spotlight because we need to remember who they are in the next election - but there is merit to that position, and it seems to be what she genuinely believes.

My concern is it's an excuse she uses when the issue is not one she is concerned about. For example, when Letterman made his notorious Palin joke a few weeks back, Mika had no problem harping on that and defending Palin incessantly.

I'd give more leeway if I saw true evenness in application. But all things considered, I am seeing a pattern of harping along with right wing points, but ignoring or dissing Democratic points. I can't remember recent times when she's taken Obama's side on anything for more than a brief, apologetic, second. And anything the show harps on incessantly is always a right wing thing.

R & R, absolutely keep these nutz in the spotlight as examples of the Republican party. Birthers, Dittoheads, BeckBoys, Hannitizied people..They all deserve to be kept fresh in our memory. Why should they be permitted to appear, spew hatred and run? Maybe in the Past but no longer.
Limpballs still uses the tree-huggers to attack Democrats. He also uses the PETA people. Whether they are Democrats or not doesn't matter..it is just a stepping stone to hurl insults at everything D.
We must keep words alive also..."Obama is a racist." Beck is a clown but if we don't want to see his circus, let's not. But also, let his advertisers know that we will not watch his program. No threats of boycotts or anything like that, just a reminder that thier product will not be viewed, on Becks' show, by many people. Remember, the Free Market is now the "Free SuperMarket" with many new and improved aisles. I prefer to walk down the aisle of not support Becks' advertisers..no hate involved, it is my money.

Dream on. He will just deny it or deny what he meant by it. Case in point his quotes above, within seconds of each other. He will also play the victim, that the liberals are out to get him by playing sound bites and quoting him out of context. He gets to spew his lies and hate with no consequences.

Very interesting take on this, by Jason Linkins at the Huffington Post. Scarborough, as we could all see, wasn't on his show for this clip, but he did Tweet in, and compared Beck's attack on Obama to the Dixie Chicks' trashing of Dubya. Will Scarborough use his show as a weapon against Beck, as he used Scarborough Country against the Chicks? It's worth going to the link for the visual at the end.

Thanks Con, I checked it out. I doubt if much will be made of it(Beck), at all. It does seem to me, that the right is getting bolder, scarier, and more outrageous by the day. I wonder if this is because they are purposely trying to get negative feed back, so they can scream victim. If they want to encourage the nut cases out. Or they are just desperate for something to smear liberals and the President with. Whatever it is they are getting uglier everyday.

Mica and company were ridiculous. It is so hard to watch those hypocrites!! I wish Joe was there...he may have called them out on it.
So the fact that the racist Rev. Wright has been Obama's preacher for the past 20 years, one cannot consider the possibility of Obama being a racist against whites? Not only did Obama sit and listen to that horrible man, he allowed him to marry him and his wife and baptize their children. Obama threw his white grandmother under the bus negatively calling her a "typical white person" Obama's true colors are showing and I hope people will wise up to the mistake they made electing him.
If a white preacher spoke against blacks like Wright speaks against whites libs would call him a racist. If Bush made the comment "she acts like a typical black person" he would have been run out of town on a rail.
Liberals are hypocrites and I love the fact that everybody is figuring that out!!
