No surprises here. Lou is entertainment so make up the news as long as it brings in the ratings.

Ratings do not equal truthfulness, yadda yadda yadda, we've all said it before. It's the same old garbage from O'Reilly, except this time Goldberg's in on it.

Didn't Goldberg used to be one of the more reasoned commentators, or do I have him confused with someone else? What's happening to these guys? Did they suffer a collective and simultaneous head injury or an aneurism or something? Maybe they should all go in for brain scans to check for injuries.

This recent wave of contagious nuttiness might just be physiological and not political at all.

Goldberg wrote the book 101 People That Are Screwing Up America, which largely consists of a list of liberals who, he claims, are degrading and destroying the fabric of society. Notably, this book was mentioned by title in the manifesto/suicide letter of Jim David Adkisson, the man who shot up a Unitarian Universalist church, killing two people. Adkisson was on a mission, as his manifesto explained, to "kill liberals" because of how they are ruining the country.

Although, Goldberg did once deride Hannity for his partisan hackery. I'm not sure where that came from, some kind of momentary lapse on Goldberg's part. But I'd say Goldberg's invective is some of the worst.

It has everything to do with the 1996 telecommuinciations act, and the fcat that this act, and subsequent ammendment have allowed the likes of Ruppert Murdoch to buy and own EVERYTHING. And he has no interest in producing legitimate news or analysis. So the only way to get any of the best jobs is to become a side-show clown for Uncle Rupe. Granted SOME of these guys (Beck?) are beyond all hope. They're just clowns that Murdoch finds useful. But there are some that might make a more substantive, intellectually honest effort... if there was any future in it!

I don't know Goldberg but his comments on this clip are reasonable. He did not defend Dobbs or Klein. He tried to avoid offending Klein but he did it anyway by saying Klein would have no problem with Lou continuing on the Birther path. Claiming he knows Klein VERY WELL adds even more to the credibility of his claim (e.g) Klein has no ethical problems with Dobbs, if it makes money for the network.

Oh my gosh! Goldberg really is a nutcase. On this same subject area he has advanced a theory that the Birther controversy is being kept alive by the "Chicago Mafia inside the White House" in order to make right wing Republicans look bad.

"Birthers are citizens of Idiot America," says The Guardian's Dan Kennedy (http://www.guardian.co.uk/commentisfree/cifamerica/2009/jul/29/birthers-obama-citizenship-republicans). Citing a book by Boston Globe writer Charles Pierce, Idiot America: How Stupidity Became a Virtue in the Land of the Free, Kennedy lays out the three "Great Premises" of Idiot America:

      1. "Any theory is valid if it sells books, soaks up ratings or otherwise moves units."

      2. "Anything can be true if someone says it loudly enough."

      3. "Fact is that which enough people believe. Truth is determined by how fervently they believe it."

Sure explains a lot, doesn't it?

Let's not forget Mike Judge's "Idiocracy" – "People wrote books and movies. Movies with stories, that made you care about whose arse it was and why it was farting. And I believe that time can come again!"

Birfers may be the fringe, or the "X-Treme !! Idiots", but they're only an amplified example of the logic (or lack of) that defines the far right mind.

Popularity (meaning average,or lowest-common-denominator friendly) and Authority (the right authorities, of course) trump reality every time.

It's all too common at this site to see, for example, a documented instance of misinformation on Fox News, and a wingnut poster rebutting that objectively noted failure by pointing out the high ratings of the station. Sure , they're lying, but a lot of idiots enjoy their lies. Therefore, they're good.

As for the "authority" part, I can't count how many times I've asked wingnuts here to back up an opinion they've presented as fact, and been answered with a link to a right wing opinion piece by another wingnut presenting the same unsupported BS as fact.

It's so much groupthink, emotion and amazing ability to ignore the truth that keep the far right alive.

That might be true but is that a good thing? Is it OK to just throw out truth and accuracy in favour of ratings?
