It's amazing how much self-consciousness a Seven-figure salary can erase.

I'm beginning to think that Beck doesn't even believe this nonsense. I think he's paid big bucks to pimp these talking points and manufacture controversies. His ratings are probably through the roof since he started his anti-Obama whinefest.

This reminds me of a discussion I heard regarding the idea of "taking the Lord's name in vain". A theologian was arguing that the phrase refers not to saying things like "Oh my God!", but to putting your own words in God's mouth, regardless of whether you could find scriptural backup for it. Where am I going with this? Well, I think by the same token, Beck's unique way of desecrating my country's flag is far worse than burning it, even though flag-burning is what gets all the flack.
      Okay, rant done.

Hey, Kid, that was no rant, that was very thoughtful, and much appreciated!

I would add that it is also wrong to do something and claim that you have God's approval for it. I heard plenty of this during the early, optimistic days after the invasion of Iraq.

And it certainly is curious that no other media neocons (nor any of Beck's defenders here) are complaining about the way Beck desecrates the flag. Apparently that's an issue of convenience to them.

but Glenn... the GOP represents the big corporations!
Dont you remember the Bush tax cuts?! Now you are complaining about corporate america?? It is your party that represents the giant corporations and not the average americans, not the democrats. Stop fearmongering Glenn. I bet the viewers who watch your show think that if they shot the president then they would be "saving the country" and be a hero... This is what you are creating Glenn. You are pushing violence against democracy.

Does Beck really expect anyone to believe he has read the health care reform bill? He is to moronic to understand anything other than getting ratings.

If you really wanted to lessen large corporations' influence, you'd have to do things like 1) take stronger measures to keep big money out of politics; 2) vigorously enforce anti-trust law; 3) make the tax system more progressive; 4) adequately fund public television and radio; 5) support the Employee Free Choice Act and other pro-union measures; etc. Last time I checked the Republicans were opposed to all these things.

        Good post!

I've been noticing a renewed push to, once again, cut funding foe the National Endowment for the Arts by people on the right. WTF?

I'll take someone representing a union over a corporation any day of the week Glenn. Although, Obama is in the pocket of many corporations as well. Don't you worry little Glenn, the unions only get so far, because they don't have the big bucks that corporations have.
